Tron: Legacy Passes $50 Million In IMAX Numbers!

With the film now having taken over $50 million in just IMAX numbers, and $328.8 million worldwide, a sequel must surely be looking more likely?

These excerpts are from The Hollywood Reporter:

"Walt Disney’s Tron Legacy 3D has passed the $50 million box office mark on Imax screens, with the giant screen exhibitor reporting the tentpole pic has generated $34.7 million domestically since opening on Dec. 17"

"Tron Legacy 3D awaits openings in several international markets, including Germany and Austria, and an exclusive Imax-only five-day run in France ahead of a nationwide release."

"The film's total box office in all theatres and formats worldwide has reached $328.8 million."

With these sorts of numbers (despite the critics' bad to mediocre reviews) - a sequel must surely be looking more likely now?

Tron 1 originally got $33 in US gross, so Legacy is definitely much more successful...and especially as suggested in the above link, a sequel will likely be made.

It better. I need as much Olivia Wilde exposure as I can get. I think she's the hottest thing on two legs (or at least one of them).

ID LIKE TO SEE THE CHARACTER TRON IN THE SEQUEL INSTEAD OF TRON AS A MASKED SLAVE.

Legacy was fun. Jaw Dropping visuals, I just think the story itself needed more work. And that scene with Sam and Flynn shootin the breeze on that rail train thing or whatever was kinda dry. But im all for a sequal and they BETTER bring back DAFT PUNK!!!!

I'd still rank Winter Soldier higher, but only barely.

My rankings of all the MCU, including Netflix: 1. Winter Soldier 2. Civil War 3. Guardians 4. Iron Man 5. Avengers 6. Daredevil Season 2 7. Jessica Jones 8. Capt America TFA (Just a personal preference - big Capt. America fan) 9. Avengers 2 10. Ant Man 11. Daredevil season 1 12. Thor 13. Incredible Hulk 14. Thor Dark World 15. Iron Man 2 16. Iron Man 3

I don't count Agents of SHIELD cause network shows are garbage.

@76cidgrad - That's divisive. I hated Ben as Bats but appreciated BvS for what it was. After all, we are stuck with WB's plan. Your post pits one side against the other. Weird.

One of the best films so far but come on, not better than the winter soldier or the first ironman in my view.

It was good, but I have to admit. I felt it fell short. Maybe I was overhyped, TWS was better IMO.

I had a great time watching this but the nit pick in me had some issues.

1: The fact that most understand at some level that the winter soldier is someone who has been brainwashed and yet still blame him for his actions doesn't make any sense. Although Tony's anger at the end does make some sense I think it would have made more sense if the build up had damaged Tony emotionally more....personally I think Rhodey dying would have pushed him near enough to breaking point and would have made the final battle make more emotional sense.

2: The villain's motivations aren't developed well through the dialogue. He actually has fairly good reasons for his actions- more people should be pissed off with Iron man in particular for creating a completely unnecessary disaster in the form of ultron. However from the dialogue he seems more annoyed that the Avengers did not all die from trying to save Sokovia. Weird logic...does he blame firemen for not burning to death if they are trying to tackle a massive fire that kills someone? They should have established him knowing that the Avengers created Ultron. Plus who wouldn't get their family to evacuate in that situation?

3: Antman and Spiderman are written in very badly. Their motivations don't make sense.

4: It would have been more effective if Zemo had been further in the background just hinted at throughout the movie. It would have been easy for Zemo to set up a situation that could reveal the information about Tony's parents without revealing himself at the same time.

It was phenomenal. It might be the best example of character writing for that big of an ensemble that I've seen. Seeing it again tomorrow. I always like Marvel movies better the 2nd time around.... except for Iron Man 3.

Civil War was overwhelmingly better than BvS. Big setback for DC.

I am torn with my ranking of this but not in how much I loved it. The movie was amazing!!! Best Spiderman and Peter Parker to date!!! Fantastic intro to Black Panther!!! True conflict between characters that made sense and also had you questioning your own views and which way you would go. Marvel has done such a fantastic job staying true to the tone each character should have. they have built the framework slowly and stayed within that framework.

Not to back BvS and DC, because I want them to make good movies but I was talking about it the other day and put it this way...

Marvel is the Baby boomer generation while DC is the millennial generation.

Marvel took it's time and planted seeds that would pay off later. They tended to those seeds and watched their universe slowly grow. There was a clear vision for a prolonged and sustained future.

Meanwhile...

DC is rushing to play catch-up. They want everything that Marvel wants but are unwilling to take their time now and wait for the payoff later. They are rushing to grow up and are blinded by the desire for immediate gratification.

I loved Captain America Civil War and so did my 15 year old daughter, but we both liked BvS more. I'm sure all the trolls will hack on me, but BvS was an excellent movie and it set up many things to come.

So, 60% think it's the best Marvel film yet (at the time I'm writing this). That is really positive omen for repeat viewing. With 40-60 films to pick from (depending on what you count as film and whether films like men in black or Kickass are marvel movies). I can't see it (I still think Iron Man is the best Marvel movie ever), and the film still felt there were so many characters that it impeded the presentation of any one characters story, but I did vote great movie. I'm glad other people are enjoying the movie to such a great extent.

By the way bropous, those are very good ideas.
