TRON: LEGACY Sequel Could Begin Shooting In 2014 According To Bruce Boxleitner

According to Bruce Boxleitner (Tron himself), the sequel will be a direct continuation and will feature more screen-time for Tron.

Simply put, most people were not happy with Tron: Legacy. For the move to have the titular characters name, his actual presence in the film was very minimal. No, "rogue-corrupted-program" Tron does not count. When asked if a sequel to Tron: Legacy would feature more Tron, Boxleitner gave a definited "Yes," and also said that the movie would be a direct continuation. "The last movie didn't end," he said. "It actually started the next movie and then went to black," said Boxleitner.

The film earned $400 million at the global box office on a $170 million dollar budget*[I know, doesn't include marketing, let's just all be aware of it but not address it] which is impressive but not exactly what the folks at Disney had hoped for as they were expecting numbers similar to Avatar.

Still a sequel is "[Is] in the works," says an optimistic Boxleitner. "Anything could happen, but all I can say is, it's in its formative stages. [Joseph] Kosinski, who is slated for it, he's shooting another movie now, and then they'll get around to doing that. I think somewhere around 2014, maybe. I'm talking way out of school here, but they can't shoot me because I'm Tron."

Kosinski is currently set to direct Tom Cruise in Oblivion for Universal Pictures which is set to be released on July 19, 2013. Assuming Boxleitner is inferring that Tron:Legacy will begin production once that film hits theaters.

Now I must admit Tron:Legacy was a huge letdown for the media, fans and even Disney. The film turned a profit but nowhere near what anyone expected or hoped for and it was critically panned across the board. Thanks to all the hype and the fantastic music from Daft Punk in the trailers, I was extremely ecstatic to see the film and even enjoyed it the first time, even though my fellow moviegoers thought I was crazy and trashed the film. Upon a second viewing, I discovered they were actually dead-on and I let my heightened anticipation cloud my usually sharp critical-assessment skills. The film stunk, despite fine performances from the cast, great visuals and a killer sound track. The problem, a plot that made absolutely no sense at all and made you feel nothing for any of the characters. Thankfully, the original scriptwriters have gone on to television [where they belong] and David DiGilio was hired to write the sequel.....David DiGilio? Really? The man responsible for Eight Below. Maybe I'm wrong and we'll get a better script for the sequel but that resume sure doesn't inspire confidence.

Running Time: 125 minutes
Release Date: 17 December 2010 (USA)
MPAA Rating: Rated PG for sequences of sci-fi action violence and brief mild language
Starring: Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Cillian Murphy, Bruce Boxleitner, Michael Sheen and Olivia Wilde .
Directed by: Joseph Kosinski
Written by: Edward Kitsis (screenplay), Adam Horowitz (screenplay),Steven Lisberger (characters) and Bonnie MacBird (characters)

Tron: Legacy is a 2010 American science fiction film directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Steven Lisberger. It is a sequel to the 1982 film Tron with Jeff Bridges reprising his roles as Kevin Flynn and CLU, while Bruce Boxleitner reprises his roles as Alan Bradley and Tron. Garrett Hedlund portrays Flynn's adult son, Sam. The other cast members include Olivia Wilde, Beau Garrett, Michael Sheen, and James Frain. The film's soundtrack was composed by the electronic music duo Daft Punk. The film, which took $170 million to make, was met with mixed critical consensus and became a box office hit, grossing over $400 million worldwide.

Cult Classic normally means a film is crap but has found a small audience fanbase regardless. That's pretty much true of both these movies!

I didn't see in theaters because of the reviews and of fear of being let down. But after seeing the BluRay copy at a colleague's house, with a fairly decked out home theater system. Film was an amazingly epic visual music video. I got to see the sequel in theaters, in 3D.

After reading this article, I felt compelled to comment. This movie WAS NOT critically panned. What movie did YOU go see? Was it perfect? HELL NO. However, the movie was fun, entertaining, and pure joy for my eyes and ears. I liked Tron Legacy a lot. On IMDb, this movie has a 6.9/10. On Rotten Tomatoes a 50% (Critics' score) and a 67% (Audience Score). From those scores and what little we see of the above comments, I think the general consensus is that the movie was mediocre. You want critically panned? See how the Clash of the Titans remake did. Ouch!

I liked it, not in terms like it's great in every aspect, but it at least showed us dazzling visuals and entertaining action scenes, so I wasn't totally let down by it. (And Daft Punk's score!) Sure, the capacity of Tron in it was the main weakness to me. Nonetheless, a third entry can still work, IMO. Especially if it will give us more Tron - I think Boxleitner motion-captured as briefly glimpsed in Tron: Legacy was very cool, so I want to see more of it - and perhaps, get Cillian Murphy as the antagonist (and keep Daft Punk, too)...I'd love to see it.

I thought the movie was brilliant. I think one of the main problems with reviews is that they're not comprised of enough receptive minds. There is a much more profound message in Tron than critics care to digest. I mean...to say the plot was lacking...well, I think perhaps it just wasn't fully comprehended by those that say that. Appreciating art is quality over quantity after all.

Neither the originally movie nor the sequel was ever about the plot. It was all about concepts and cutting edge effects technology. To that end, I saw no problem with the sequel. It stuck to exactly what the original film made it's niche in, so when I went in to watch the film I got exactly what I was expecting.

I must commend Disney for chroncling a whole huge backstory of the 20+ year timespan between the two movies.

lol disney thought it would be as good as avatar-HAIL TO THE F-CK NO!!!!! but that goes without saying that i did no live the movie. jeff briges is awesome.

if the story had been better this movie would of came third to avatar.WHICH SAYS SOMETHING,any way what i bet they are going to do this...

-you know that part at the end where sam exit the grid and that little micro-chip is the light is flashing like it has a heart beat well i bet that kevins techno dna or whatever is whats left of him and they end up re animating him.

-there is also the rinzler turning out to be tron and then turns back into tron so thats got to lead somewhere.

-but what they should do is when they re animatte him is make him younger so that he can go out back into the real world cause "25 years on the grid would suck"......unless they had programs that are prostitutes then that would seem reasonable

I loved Tron:Legacy and everyone I know likes it too.I don't think I've spoken to anyone who doesn't....It may not be a run away success but it made its money.Usually the marketing budget for a movie is the same as the shooting budget. So earning 400 Mill + from a total investment of 340ml is a successful turn around.

TRON: LEGACY is a prime example of how misleading Tomato-meter scores can be. If you really must go by what critics think, find a handful who have tastes closely aligned with your own and stick with them.

I think this one should be about Alan Bradley going into the grid with Sam/Quorra and meeting Tron, who is hiding with his girlfriend from the first film. All this while looking for Kevin Flynn, and it's Dillinger who finds him and informs Alan Bradley at the beginning of the film. This starts their quest to find him. Dillinger doesn't like Sam Flynn who took over 2 years ago as CEO of ENCOM. He follows them to the Flynn's Arcade and finds the machine and goes into the Grid. He attacks Tron/Sam/Quorra/Kevin and there is a big huge battle. Alan Bradley gives his life to save everyone and is a real hero. Tron stays and looks after the Grid. Tron learns alot about Bradley in the movie before he dies. Kevin/Sam/Quorra leave and promise to watch over Tron and the Grid. Dillinger is defeated by Alan who gave his life to protect his friends.

The Avatar comparisons are a tad laughable because the story in both movies sucked pretty hard core. Avatar had the advantage of having Cameron give it more "purdy scenery". I agree with most Legacy was not what it should have been. Hoping they can get it right this time.

Kevin once in the real world, creates/dedicates something(?) in honor of his fallen friend Alan. Near the end of the film Quorra discovers she is pregnant. What happens next? I don't know.

How come everyone is so critical of the plot?
Not only did the film focus on a father/son story, but the brotherly conflict between Sam and CLU also worked... all culminating in the finale at the portal. TOP STUFF!!! (And it's an A/V demo peiece to boot!)
More may not be required, but deffinately wanted!

Love his comment, "they can't shoot me cause I'm Tron"

I'm sick of CBM writers putting their own opinion is articles, especially when they say things that aren't true. Most fans AND casual movie goers really liked Tron Legacy. I think the story was overall better than the first, with some dialogue equally as weak (definitely one downside of the series). Also, the writers that went to television are now doing the critical and fan acclaimed "Once Upon A Time."
To conclude, if you can't write an article without your own opinion, don't bother at all (or get a job at FoxNews).

Whoever wrote this is a fool simply for the line "Gone on to TV where they belong" basically insinuating writing on Television is crap. Um, the writing on shows like Justified, Lost, Walking Dead, Terriers, etc...is FAR smarter than most of the crap in films.

Also, Legacy is not a bad movie. Did things lack? Sure, but as a film, FOR ENTERTAINMENT purposes, it was well executed. The effects were great, the soundtrack was great, the acting was great. Sure, the actual story could have been better but they were renewing a long dead film for franchise purposes.

Ugh...This article just wants to join a wrongly directed bandwagon. Good job jumping on that train.
