A different Spider-Man in the MCU

A thought about our new MCU Spider-Man that I believe is...just a little different.

I am a HUGE Spider-man fan, massive. I cannot remember a time when I wasn’t reading a Spider-Man comic. With that being said, I have also never written an article to post on anywhere…for anything. It’s not my style. I'm also not going to get fancy with all these pictures, straight to the point(s).

I am passionate about the superhero I grew up will finally being able to interact on a cinematic level with a group of peers that he has had endless encounters and adventures with. I’ve read all the articles, I know about the “deal”, the controversies surrounding race, where he should appear, how the solo movie should be handled, villains, characters in the movie, Infinity War…everything. I don’t think I have missed a single article on here nor do I believe my idea, the way I see it working WELL, being mentioned.

So lets begin shall we?

In the Marvel cinematic universe we have a few established truths. Super heroes and villains are a rare occurrence. We have Captain America and Red Skull as being our first two that were predominant before anyone else. With the introduction of Ant-Man I imagine we will get a few more glimpses with Peggy (SSR/S.H.I.E.L.D) and Hank Pym interacting; maybe a couple of others with abilities beyond that of normal men and women will appear?

Everything in the marvel universe really brings itself around back to this time period. The super solider serum of course, technology coming of age (Howard Stark) and other countries exploring  their ability to create advanced human beings.

So how does Spider-Man fit i to a place where he never existed before and where Oscorp seemingly has no influence?

Very interestingly.

Our previous films are out, there is nothing there. Once again we are getting a reboot and many, like me, want a change of pace. No more origin, no more 2.5 hour story with our normal hero arch. If I had it my way there would be no high school Spider-Man. There would be a Spider-Man who is married to Mary Jane, who has a little Mayday Parker that he is fighting for. Wouldn’t that be a great Civil War story line? Spider-Man is fighting not for his right to protect his identity, but his daughter's identity. He knows that one day she will grow up and have powers and responsibility. Peter fighting for her right to choose, to get involved with this war because of her, that would be spectacular.

Of course this isn’t my choice and that is never going to happen.

So how else do we make Peter feel fresh, do we really make this new MCU Spider-Man feel like something different, something new?

How about something…Inhuman?

Right there, I pissed off a lot of people. I pissed off myself really for even thinking it. However the more and more I thought about it, it made sense. It actually started to feel right. (Pending the full scope of Marvel’s creative control)

Besides Cap and Howard, the thing we know for sure is that the Kree established themselves on Earth a long time ago. They experimented on humans, created a race of beings beyond our normal abilities. In AoS we know that there are other Inhumans that are on Earth and one has to assume the royal family will be eluded to down the line. They have a movie in 2019, Marvel could in theory, have Spider-Man be the lich pin in that film. Humanity is fed up with Inhumans, they are scared. They love Spider-Man, Peter reveals his identity, and then they love him or hate him more. The royal family shows up (or comes crashing down creating more chaos). There are a few ways this could work itself and it would be completely different than anything we have ever seen (even in the comics)

However I am getting way ahead of myself.

Marvel wants the Inhumans to be key to their universe. They are pushing them in the comics, they are bringing back Black Bolt, they are pretty much replacing mutants with Inhumans. It has even been eluded to, although not confirmed, that Cap and Banner could both be Inhuman. They had the ability to be something more. Cap has the gene and became the perfect specimen; Banner had the gene and because of the radiation it was twisted and created Hulk in a way that was not intended. Red Skull however wasn’t Inhuman and the same serum (which was assumed to be incorrect) just didn’t react to a dormant Inhuman gene like it did within Cap. This is all speculation, but in a crazy way it makes complete sense.

Therefore, could Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, our next super powered heroes, both be Inhuman as well then? Perhaps, but I feel they are going to be more magic based because of the Infinity Stone (something Marvel is going to ramp up REALLY fast).

We also have pictures and plenty of speculation that there is an Avenger Academy coming in Age of Ultron. If this turns out to be true and I think that it will be true; most of these young men and women are going to be either extremely intelligent or Inhumans that are just discovering who they are.

**Side note. I don’t know how Jessica Jones (?), Daredevil (advanced human), Luke Cage (?) or Iron Fist (magic) are going to actually be portrayed. We can guess, but I imagine they will fall in the above categories.

Now Spider-Man cannot and will not be magic based. That is way too large of a stretch and I would hate that particular route. Could he get bit by another radioactive spider? Sure, in fact he should, but that spider should activate his dormant Inhuman gene in the same way the diviner does and in the same way that the radioactivity made Hulk. In Hulk’s case the genes got twisted, in Peter’s case they got filled in with spider dna and activated. One of my friends already argued about Abomnation, however with the recent Agent Carter episode I believe that the serum used to create him was a bastard version of the original project rebith serum. Again, no Inhuman gene, no perfection.

How would Marvel do it then? To me you really have to weave him into the existing universe well enough to not make it not seem like a corny attempt to bring in your biggest money maker. Really there is only one way to do this…

Agents of Shield

Sort of...

Many of you on this site hate AoS; however an equal number of you are really starting to enjoy the show with the new direction. Since Inhumans are being started in AoS then it might go without saying that the show is going to start having more superpowers involved. With these powers, comes a way to track these people with powers. With a way to track people with powers, comes a trip to Midtown High.

Let’s say that our agents travel to Midtown because they have a reading of an Inhuman. Of course we won’t see Peter or Gwen or Mary Jane; but what about Flash Thompson? Would it be too large of a stretch to say that they think Flash in an Inhuman? Maybe he throws the ball 90 yards or runs over a guy without losing a step (something awesome and “Inhuman”). Hydra is there too! They see the same thing and hijinks ensue trying to protect Flash from Hydra only to find out that he isn’t Inhuman.  I think that would be a great episode and at the end maybe we just get a fade to black (or back of the head) shouting of PARKER!

Seamlessly fun and very different with the character of Peter Parker already tied into the MCU and obviously he would be well aware of a SHIELD and Hydra presence because of what happened at his school and this would happen after AoU. So no need to try to rush in an end credits teaser.

With that out of the way and enough people rolling their eyes at even the IDEA Peter could be an Inhuman, comes the last bit of detail, what to do in Civil War? The answer is surprisingly simple.

Not much. I wouldn’t change anything that they already have planned. The way it seems to be moving is that Black Panther is a huge part of what the Russos wanted to do and I actually love that idea. I have a strong feeling that the climatic “battle sequence” is going to be very large in scale; possibly introducing new heroes and villains in the MCU that we have never seen or have seen elsewhere on television. Wouldn’t it be great to see Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist fighting cops because of registration or perhaps Coulson protecting them? Quake wreaking havoc against whatever is going on downtown?

Wouldn’t it be great to have Spider-Man swinging through the city and webbing up Iron-Man or the registration task force (throwing in a few comedic clips as well, of course?)

Not too much, not too little, just enough to show that he is there. He has a purpose and he is the same Spidey that we always love.

End credits scene for Civil War? Osborn. A few captured young Inhumans, a lab, Norman experimenting. Who knows where that goes from there?

Well there it is. I think making Peter an Inhuman would fit with the exact direction that Marvel is taking the MCU and it really doesn’t change much at all with the character other than relating him to a different group of people. Quake wasn’t an Inhuman and although not nearly as famous as Spider-Man, it’s working for her. Why not for our webhead?

Mmm, nah. This sounds like that dumb totem shit from the comics. I feel it's best that Peter is as ordinary as can be, and only become Spiderman in the most radical of circumstances.
