THE TOMORROW WAR Star J.K. Simmons Reflects On SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Return As J. Jonah Jameson

Spider-Man: Far From Home featured what many consider to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe's best post-credits scene, as J.K. Simmons reprised the role of J. Jonah Jameson to reveal the web-slinger's secret identity to the world. It was a moment no one saw coming, and not even the so-called "scoopers" online had caught wind of Marvel Studios' plans to bring the actor back as The Daily Bugle E-I-C.

Talking to Den Of Geek about his role in Amazon's The Tomorrow War, Simmons opened up about returning as Jameson and what it means to him to be able to revisit and reinterpret the character.

"Those movies with Sam [Raimi] will always be big highlights of my career and my life," the actor said of the original Spider-Man trilogy. "Sam is one of my favorite directors and human beings."

"To have the opportunity to kind of do a reboot of the character, I was eager to hang on to the things I really loved about it and totally open to letting go of some of that, and realizing we are in a more updated version of that universe. Hopefully, we found the sweet spot there."

As for what the biggest change was, Simmons jokes: "Mostly just the hair, or the lack thereof. For a lot of characters, that evolution is a really important aspect. I like the lack of evolution of that character. There are ways that he’s evolved, but he’s the same blowhard and that’s what I enjoy doing."

There have been rumours that Simmons will return as Jonah in SPUMC movies like Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius, but it's hard not to hope that he remains "exclusive" to the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home and beyond. Then again, his presence could be a nice piece of connective tissue between the two different worlds it seems the wall-crawler will be swinging between.

What are your hopes for JJJ in the MCU and beyond?

It's always refreshing to see a great actor such as J.K. enjoying the little things.

They should use the amount of hair on his head as an indication of which universe JJJ we're watching

Every time Bryan Cranston gets cast in something, I wish it were JK Simmons.

I'm so glad his appearance wasn't spoiled for me. J.K. Simmons returning as J. Jonah Jameson in a post-credits zinger was the movie moment of the year!

My buddy kept telling me to watch invincible and I just finished it. By far the best comic book content we have gotten this year. So damn good. I can't wait for season two. JK as omniman was perfect.

ha it just dawned on me that if any of Doctor Strange is set on Earth, you could have J Jonah Jameson on a news report, meaning we could have Raimi directing JK as JJ once again....how everything comes full circle after 20 years, please let this happen!

also, still pushing for him to become the new Stan Lee, plus I still really want JK Simmons doing 20 shorts summing up each MCU movie (Im taking out Thor Ragnarok, Doctor Strange & Far From Home for obvious reasons...but leaving in Captain Marvel because I would love to see a de-aged JJ reporting on rumours of shapechanging aliens & missing Carol Danvers AND Captain America for the aftermath of Steve appearing in present day)

Im going to keep demanding that they release shorts on Disney+, with Jonah commenting on the MCU events...think about it, Jonah at the press conference where Tony announces he is Iron Man, the Hulk vs Abomination battle, commenting on the events in New Mexico, Cap being found, the battle of New York, Trevor as the Mandarin, the Convergence, the Helicarriers crashing in Washington, the rumours connected to the disappearance of young Peter Quill, Sokovia, the final battle in Ant-Man, Caps team in Civil War being criminals, the weird blue blob appearing in a small town in Missouri, the early years of the web slinging menace right up to his battle with Vulture, TChallas sharing of vibranium with the world, half the world disappearing, Giant-Man appearing in San Francisco, shapechanging aliens in 90s LA?, the battle at Avengers Compound coupled with everyone coming back

“I’m just upset that Marvel would bring in an actor who played the same character in a different franchise and NOT have it be the same exact version of the character. It was intentionally misleading and I’m still not over being duped!!”

@Waddles - everyone still whining about Evan Peters being in WV because it didn’t line up with their theories of the whole Fox X-men cast being incorporated into the MCU.
