SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME - 10 Amazing Reveals And Spoilery Teases In The Blockbuster New Trailer

The wait for the new Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer was definitely worth it, even if those Peter Parker Variants didn't make an appearance (there was no sign of Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock, either).

That doesn't mean this sneak peek wasn't crammed full of massive reveals, however, and we now have a much better idea of what to expect from the most secretive Marvel movie since Avengers: Endgame. From returning villains to the Multiverse of it all, we've been left with a lot to unpack.

In this feature, we break down the latest Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, taking a closer look at everything from crucial lines of dialogue to blink and you'll miss them moments that are far more revealing than they appear on the surface. Yes, that includes a few big Spider-Men teases!

Continue reading below for this in-depth look at the threequel's latest teaser...

10. The Door To The Multiverse Opens

0-34-screenshot

As expected, Doctor Strange's spell to make the world forget Peter Parker is Spider-Man goes horribly wrong, and opens the door to the Multiverse.

The Sorcerer Supreme says that it led to them getting visitors from "every universe," though the two realities those unwelcome guests seemingly hail from in this trailer will be instantly familiar to fans of the Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man franchises.

These villains aren't necessarily the ones we spent time with in the previous films. They look the same, but as Loki explained, could just hail from timelines that were all but identical aside from a couple of key differences; that might explain some of the costume changes, though everyone does look pretty much the same aside from Electro.

Of course, being sent to new worlds has unexpected consequences for those bad guys as well...

9. "You're Not Peter Parker"

0-58-screenshot

Doctor Octopus gets quite the surprise when he sees Spider-Man's face because, to him, that's not Peter Parker. Prior to this moment, it appears the villain was targeting the web-slinger because he believed him to be the Spidey from his world, but Ock now finds himself in unfamiliar surroundings.

The good doctor appears to take advantage of this, however, by incorporating the Iron Spider nanotechnology into his four arms.

That's seemingly where it stays based on later shots in the trailer, and could explain why Peter dons whatever that magically enhanced black suit is. With so much of what we're seeing in this sneak peek out of order, it's sometimes hard to make sense of it, but we're guessing Spidey first captures Doc Ock and then sets out to retrieve the rest of the Multiversal baddies.

However, it's when he learns what will happen to them on their worlds (we'll get to that) the hero comes to blows with Doctor Strange.

8. The Statue Of Liberty

1-11-screenshot

There's not a huge amount to delve into here, but the Statue of Liberty's new appearance is definitely noteworthy.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier failed to elaborate on what happened to Steve Rogers following the events of Avengers: Endgame, though it does appear that the world believes him dead. As a way of paying homage to the original Captain America, it seems the Statue of Liberty is undergoing some major changes with Cap's shield replacing/covering Lady Liberty's torch.

It's one heck of a visual, that's for sure.

Unfortunately, the shield is seemingly destroyed during Spider-Man: No Way Home's final battle, but what a great choice of locale for that showdown. It's also worth noting that the scaffolding in these shots appears to match what Andrew Garfield was spotted striking a pose on in the leaked set video, not to mention the image of the three Spider-Men standing side-by-side.

7. J. Jonah Jameson

1-33-screenshot

We don't know what to expect from J. Jonah Jameson in this film, but those of you hoping to see him doing more than just attacking Spider-Man on his news show will be pleased by this.

In a blink and you'll miss it shot from the trailer, TheDailyBugle.net boss is shown watching smugly as Electro and Sandman cause chaos. His van can be seen nearby, and it appears he decides to follow the attacking villains closely throughout the course of Spider-Man: No Way Home (likely claiming Peter is teaming up with them or somehow responsible for their actions).

We've spent pretty much no time at all with this Jonah Variant, so any screentime he receives here is likely to be welcomed.

Hopefully, he gets some measure of comeuppance at Spidey's hands...

6. Fighting Ghosts

1-36-screenshot

Both Doctor Octopus and Doctor Strange confirm that these villains die while fighting Spider-Man. Why? Because it's "their fate."

That's true in the case of Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Electro, but what about The Lizard and Sandman? The latter was seemingly reformed at the end of Spider-Man 3 after being forgiven by Peter Parker, while Curt Connors landed behind bars for his actions in The Amazing Spider-Man.

Perhaps Flint Marko is plucked from his reality after his brutal defeat at the hands of the black suit Spidey in the subway? That was a near-death experience, while Lizard had his fair share of those during his final battle with the web-slinger as well. With these two likely given supporting roles, it could be as simple as them being manipulated by Norman Osborn or Otto Octavius.

It's an intriguing approach, and one that has major ramifications for the MCU's Peter.

5. Change Of Heart

1-46-screenshot

Upon realising that returning these villains to their respective worlds would lead to their deaths at the hands of Spider-Man, Peter has a change of heart about capturing them for Doctor Strange.

As noted, this appears to be what sets up that massive battle through New York City and the Mirror Dimension as the wall-crawler attempts to make off with whatever magical device th Sorcerer Supreme has created to trap them. It returns during the final battle, too, so perhaps Spidey knows he has no other choice by that point?

Whatever the case may be, we'd be willing to put money on the Green Goblin toying with Peter and not being entirely honest about how and why these villains died at Spider-Man's hands.

Remember, we know the wall-crawler isn't a killer, and that both Norman and Otto's deaths were self-inflicted.

4. Whose Side Is Doc Ock On?

2-2-screenshot

Talking of Doctor Octopus, there's evidence here that he might not be the full-blown villain we anticipated. While it makes sense for Otto to immediately target Spider-Man, it's important to point out that the scientist found redemption in the closing moments of Spider-Man 2 and died a good man.

It even looks like he's trying to offer Peter and his friends some advice at times, while his apparent absence from the final battle is impossible to ignore.

In fact, the only other noteworthy action shot of Ock in this trailer is when he's being blasted by Electro. That might not be exactly what's happening, of course, but we'd be willing to bet he turns on his fellow villains, especially if Otto has wrested control of his arms back from that A.I.

Perhaps his death or sacrifice is what makes the MCU's Peter realise these villains must be returned to their rightful place?

3. A Second Goblin

2-11-screenshot

There's been a lot of speculation about this moment, with many wondering if Spider-Man: No Way Home is going to feature a second Green Goblin.

Marvel Studios has a couple of different Harry Osborn Variants they could make use of, but we're pretty sure this is Norman. For whatever reason, it seems his costume is badly damaged or destroyed and that leads to the Green Goblin rocking a makeshift suit for the final battle.

A leaked behind-the-scenes photo showed a take on the Goblin with his comic book satchel, a battered costume, and goggles, and that seems to match with what we see in this brief action shot.

While it's a little disappointing to think this is what the iconic baddie will look like in the final battle, we don't actually know where in the film this scene is from or whether he still dons that green mask. With that in mind, we're not going to be too quick to judge but remain convinced this isn't a second Green Goblin Variant.

2. Sandman And The Lizard

2-16-screenshot

We've mentioned these two a few times now, but let's take a closer look at what they're getting up to in this trailer.

Just like at the end of Spider-Man 3, this Flint Marko has mastered the ability to turn himself into a skyscraper-sized behemoth with the ability to do Spidey a lot of damage. Throughout the trailer, he's often seen as little more than a whirlwind of sand, but we would be gobsmacked if Thomas Haden Church isn't enlisted to reprise the role.

As for The Lizard, much to the disappointment of many of you we're sure, he doesn't appear to have been redesigned in any way. This is The Amazing Spider-Man's Lizard (weird face and all), so a comic accurate, monstrous take appears to be off the table for the time being.

There's sadly no sign of the white lab coat and purple pants. Perhaps that's being saved for an MCU take on the villain?

1. Multiverse Of Madness

2-42-screenshot

Like many of you, we have no doubt Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Among the apparent evidence confirming that in this trailer is The Lizard being hit by an invisible force, an apparent floating arm when MJ falls from the Statue of Liberty, and a hand reaching for MJ many are convinced belongs to Garfield's web-slinger.

However, it's the weird ending of this sneak peek that has us most intrigued.

With not a single villain in sight, Strange stands atop the Statue of Liberty as the sky around him erupts with purple energy. This feels like a moment that comes after the bad guys are defeated and the Variant Spider-Men are sent home, but who is starting to come through and why can't Strange stop them?

Is it Kang the Conqueror? More Variants who will soon call the MCU home? We don't know, but this could be a "To Be Continued..." moment for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness...

Theory: The upgrade to Doc Ock’s arms we see are the nanites from Peter’s suit that and up fixing his inhibitor chip and making Otto a hero. That’s why there’s no other shots of that suit, why it looks like Electro attacks him at the end and why Peter doesn’t want to send them back and confronts Doctor Strange bc he’s essentially sending a good man to his death.
