DEVOTION Star Joe Jonas Reflects On Losing THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Role To Andrew Garfield

Doing the rounds to discuss his role in Devotion alongside Jonathan Majors (Loki), singer and actor Joe Jonas has reflected on what it was like losing out on the lead role in The Amazing Spider-Man...

Many of you will know Joe Jonas best for being married to Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, though as one of the Jonas Brothers, he's also a well-known singer. In recent years, he's taken a shot at acting, lending his talents to projects like Zoolander 2 and Devotion

During a recent interview about the latter with Variety, Jonas was asked if there's ever been a role he missed out on that crushed him. Believe it or not, 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man was among them!

"In the moment, you’re destroyed or you’re defeated. But you realize this person was brilliant. I remember years ago I was up for Spider-Man and I was so, so excited and it was the year Andrew Garfield got it. Obviously, he was the right one."

"But I remember that was a big thing at the time, going back for callbacks and the director used to be a music video director," he continues. "So I was like, 'I got an in here.' But you know what? I love the process of auditioning and putting yourself out there and having to prove yourself."

Asked whether he got far enough into the audition process to try on one of Spider-Man's costumes, Jonas responded, "No, but I’m sure I had one that I would try on occasionally back in the day."

The musician and actor didn't reveal whether he still has any superhero aspirations, but seeing him as Spider-Man...well, it would have certainly been interesting. It seems unlikely fans would have embraced his casting back in the early 2010s, and hard to picture him standing alongside Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Harry Styles recently joined the MCU when he played Eros/Starfox in Eternals, so Jonas may well get another chance down the line.

If not Spider-Man, who do you think he could play in a comic book movie or TV show?

after nwh, i think garfield is probably my favorite live-action take on spidey now. all he needed was strong material and he shone.

I mean, good in that Andrew Garfield is my favorite Spider-Man and him being in those movies probably boosted him into some great roles like Hacksaw ridge and Silence.

And, since Joe Jonas is now in this movie, which is supposed to be good, looks like all worked out

So glad no way home let people appreciate Andrew Garfield as Spiderman. I kept saying he was my favorite Spiderman but anytime I said that people would get confused since they always lumped that with the amazing series as a whole. And no way home did an excellent job bringing him back without messing with what worked originally with him.

It proves that Sony has some modicum of good sense.

What?! Would’ve been epic, another classic fumble of the ball by Sony.

If he has acting talent, I wouldn't mind him taking on a role in the future. And it wouldn't be the first time Marvel would cast someone with a musical background in a role. Haille Steinfeld killed it as Kate Bishop. Just has to be the right role. Spider Man probably is not it.

@itzayaboy - Well to be fair, Haille Steinfeld is more known for her acting than singer. After all, she was nominated for an oscar in her debut acting role, and is one of the youngest to be nominated

Ben Reilly? I don't want a double take of Tom Holland. He should be familiar in appearance, but not exact.

If they do go Freaky Friday, make the attitude totally different. That's what I'd like to see for Spider-Man after the street level, DD/Kingpin run.
