THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN issue 004

After swapping his mind into Peter's body, one of Spider-Man's greatest enemies, Doctor Octopus, set out to prove himself the Superior Spider-Man. He also completed Peter's PhD, fell in love with a woman named Anna Maria Marconi, and started his own company, "Parker Industries." But in the end Doc Ock realized that in order to be a true hero, he had to sacrifice himself and give control of Peter's body back to Peter.
Peter recently found out that someone else, Cindy Moon A.K.A. Silk, was bitten by his radioactive Spider giving her similar powers to Peter. And that's not the only thing they have in common.

Here it is, my review of The Amazing Spider-Man 004. The front cover of this issue is reminiscent of the first couple of pages from The Amazing Spider-Man issue 001, in which it is revealed to us that a second person was bitten by the radio active Spider that gave our favourite web-head his powers. I am incredibly happy to see that we are getting an even greater insight into Cindy AKA Silk, and maybe we will even find more out about why Peter didn't even know she existed. It is obvious that she has been written in to the whole Spider-Man Universe but I can't deny that it is clever how Dan Slott and the team of writers has managed to fit it all in to the already existing Spider-Man world. Moving on. The first page starts off with a suit called the "Faux-Lectro" which seems to be able to mimic the power of Electro. This is obviously Peters progress on trying to find a way to help and cure Max Dillion. At least Peter is not being too serious about all of this, but that is probably because he is wanting prove to his workers that he is a more relaxing playful Boss. Just as it seems he is making progress with the Faux-Lectro his phone goes off, and he couldn't be happier. Seriously Peter acts like a kid in a candy store. He of course does what he does best and drops everything to go play hero...but whereas he never used to have any serious work responsibility, he now does and he leaves it all to Sajini who is not happy. I also find it strange how Anna Maria doesn't seem to be too bothered that she fell in love with Otto Octavius...I still think she has an ulterior motive but only time will tell.

Spider-Man and the other Avengers appear to be battling these things called "Mindless Ones", but I have probably gotten that wrong...anyway. Instead of focusing on the battle Spidey is intent on proving to all of the Avengers that it is him, not Doc Ock. I don't think that he realises that most of The Avengers didn't even notice, and that there is a BATTLE he should be fighting. Wolverine tells Spidey that the Watcher was murdered, and a whole host of very bad things. That is very bad news for almost the whole Marvel Comicbook Universe. To make the situation even worse one of the Watchers eyes was made into a bomb...and it exploded. Everyone within the bomb's radius learned secrets that they should never know. Now anyone who can add one and one will have realised that Peter has just learnt about Cindy. But I really want to know what the other Avengers have learnt, maybe Wolverine now knows about his past? Thor might remember a sin that will lead to him becoming Unworthy of Mjolnir....so much has just changed.

I absolutely love this page. It shows us the full story of Cindy and of how she came to being locked up in that room, of how her life was ruined by the Spider bite and how her power is even greater than Peters. She was taken away from her family and basically became scared of herself and her abilities. I wouldn't be surprised if she was insane...I now I would be.

Spidey does not stick around to see what the other Avengers experienced. He swings off to go and find Cindy, we are shown a flashback of Madame web basically telling him that if he doesn't want to be Spider-Man, someone else will. She obviously meant Cindy Moon. This is crazy. Slott is a wonderful writer. I really do take back what I said. Yeah sure he has basically rewritten part of Spider-Man history but he has also written a way out for Peter. Hopefully this won't mean a serious change in character like Peter retiring and Cindy becoming the new Spider-Man...well Spider-Woman. Spidey arrives at Ezekiels Bunker and starts breaking down doors getting really angry. Well so would I be if I realised that someone knew I was Spider-Man from day one and didn't even tell me. I will not say much about Ezekiel because to be completely honestly know NOTHING about him or his story arc...and I call myself SpideyFan HA, all joking aside I really know nothing about Ezekiel.

Here is where things get interesting. Ezekiels Pre recorded message mentions Morlun...and again I know nothing of previous Morlun attacks so I will leave that alone. I have been looking forward to this moment since issue 001 was released. Spidey and Cindy meeting face to face. Spider-Man opens the door, knowing the code because of the Watchers eye, and Cindy absolutely flips out. I did not expect that. She seems to be ranting about Morlun coming to kill them all..what the hell does that mean. Also why is it always our Peter that unleashes chaos onto the world...I suppose it's just that good O'l Parker Luck.

Okay I was wrong. THIS page is where things get interesting. MORLUN! What the...I thought he was dead..I mean I guessed he was dead even though we have seen him killing 1602 Spidey. Yup Peter is screwed. Oh Slott you really do like to toy with us Spider-Man Fans. Where even s Morlun... Far, Far Away? Isn't that in Shrek. He seems to be on a planet that has two moons....but he does have a nice little mansion.

Cindy carries on going crazytownbananapants and actually showing Spidey how much faster she is than him. She also seems to know an awful lot about Morlun...I suppose Ezekiel must have kept her well informed on Spider-Events. What makes things even stranger is how when Spideytells her Morlun is dead her whole demeanour changes and she jumps for joy. I get the feeling that Spider-Man will sort of have to mentor her in how the world has changed and basically keep her out of trouble. She is now his responsibility. As if Peter wasn't busy enough with Parker Industries and Black Cat trying to kill him.

Spider-Man watches in awe as Cindy makes herself a costume out of her own webbing. Now that is unfair. She can make her own webs from her fingertips whereas Peter has to use Web-Shooters....was that second Spider-Bit really that powerful? I bet Spidey wishes that he was the one who was bitten second. Cindy really does make a convincing SuperHero. I wonder how the media will react to her...I doubt that her disguise will really work though considering that her costume only covers her mouth and cheek bones. I wonder what Slott is planning on doin...it will be good I can tell that much.

Silk has been locked up for years, so it is natural for her to want to escape and explore the whole of New York. I get the feeling that to her Spider-Man is more than just a mentor...more like a role model slash obsession? Although her powers are much stronger than his, she is still a novice when it comes to swinging and fighting. Which makes it even more embarrassing for Spidey that he is being beaten by her speed. I am so happy she is an ally otherwise this could've gotten messy.

Back at Parker Industries Black Cat is out plotting her revenge against Spider-Man, and Peters workers are making small progress on how to help Electro. But seeing as Black Cat isn't very scientific she decides to abduct one of his best scientists...Sajini. Who quite coincidentally wants to know how Peter would handle Parker Industries f she suddenly disappeared. Ah karma art thou a heartless bitch. I really don't know if I like what is going on with Black Cat, I mean yeah sure she was scorned by SpOck...but that doesn't mean Peter should suffer...but yet again that good O'l Parker luck strikes again.

Spider-Man's Spider-Sense seems to be acting like a homing Beacon towards wherever Silk is, this might mean that she is a great source of danger...or maybe she is on the same sort of wavelength as his Spider-Tracers...anyway. Silk goes back to her old home, only to find that her family had long since moved away. Her heart is truly aching now and the closest thing to family she has is Spder-Man...she then asks Spidey a rather awkward question. When did he actually kill Morlun? I don't know myself...but even Spidey struggles because Morlun has been killed twice.

Silk loses it once more after hearing that Morlun has been killed twice. But she does raise a good point that what if he resurrected himself again...which we know he has. She also proved that she could beat his Spider-Sense...she may be the only Spider-Child strong enough and fast enough to beat Morlun...let's just hope Spidey figures that out quick and starts training her...she also seems to be able to manipulate her webbing..she really does have the best Spider-Powers.Then this happens....she kisses him....I did NOT see this coming...I suppose it will be easier for them both if they are fighting side by side and in a relationship...and i know MJ has Ollie but won't she get jealous or something? I think We'll just leave them b for now...what's the worst that could happen.

Overall View

Okay I'll admit that this has not been my nets review, but in all honesty does it really matter? This was such a good issue, not the best, but still good. It focused mainly on the relationship now formed between Peter and Cindy, and a tiny bit on what troubles await Peter when he decided to take on the responsibility of his own company. Although this issue did answer many question I myself had about Cindy and Morlun, it has left me with any many more questions that I just need answering. Like; Wait Morlun's been killed twice? When?, and if Cindy is stronger than Peter does that mean that she is going to somehow take over as the main Spider-Vigilante? As unlikely as that last question sounds it is still a possibility. Marvel are making a lot of changes and I would not be surprised if Spider-Man becoming a woman is one of them. If Thor isn't safe no one is. I am now even more excited for Spider-Verse and can not wait until Edge Of Spider-Verse comes out next month and October, along with the other Scarlet Spider Spider-Verse comic series. So this issue on a whole was about 8/10, but this is only due to the fact that it really did answer some key questions about the mysterious second Spider-Bite victim. As usual the artwork was brilliant. I especially liked what the Artist has done with Cindy's webbing, it somehow looks different to Peters.
