Academy-award winning visual effects company, Sony Pictures Imageworks, has released yet another visual effects breakdown video for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This one focuses on Electro's ability to rematerialize and dematerialize.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx is Electro and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.

It's no Jaimie Foxx fault. But this I would compare this adaptation of Electro to Deadpool at the end of Origins. It was just the worst character design I have seen in a cbm.

Its pathetic that they show Electro's green and yellow costume from the comics at the beginning of this film. That means they were aware of what he looked like in the comics but chose to completely ignore it.

I think JAMIE FOXX was one of the weakest things in this movie.

I liked how the birthday cake was a reference to his costume. It has green frosting around the outside and yellow frosting lightning bolts.

@Mrcool I would never expect an exact translation of a costume like that. But I do expect, at the very least, that they create something remotely similar. I mean they did not even use the colors. There were absolutely no allusions or even winks to the original costume. These characters have been around for so long and stayed popular for a reason. They chose to utterly ignore the source material for all of their villains and the movie is shit, period.

Mrcool210 @ That's the 616 Universe Electro, WEBB's Spidey Universe is basically the Ultimate one dude, so I reckon he looked pretty much the same as the Ultimate one!





The pre-Electro MAX part was the bit that sucked, too hammed up.

The part when he is with Harry and he disappears into the plug socket was awesome...maybe the only cool thing he does in the movie.

This movie was just a disappointment.

Just walked out of theater after seeing TASM 2.... It was great! Better than all other cbms this year. I prolonged seeing it because of all the reviews; I should've been there opening night. Wow!

It should be mentioned that one of the reasons Electro was made blue was probably because a majority of Spider-Man villains happen to don the color green a lot.

A bit too much.

Also lightning isn't yellow.

A lot of Electro was inspired by Spectacular Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man actually. His personality and look kind of was also based off of MTV Spider-Man.

A lot of you think that Marc Webb strayed too much from the comic but the movie pulls A LOT of influences from every Spider-Man adaptation there has been.

Most of the series seems to take after Spectacular Spider-Man (which took a lot after Amazing Spider-Man) and Ultimate Spider-Man.

I truly hate the Ultimate universe. I honestly don't think it counts as source material. It is the worst [frick]ing garbage Marvel has ever put out. It is where they stick all of the new writers/artists and dumb ideas, because they don't want to ruin the 616.

So, any part of a Marvel movie that takes inspiration from it (and there are a lot in this one) is shit and I don't consider it to be following source material. This includes MCU films, which draw heavily from the Ultimate universe.

I am not saying films that have Ultimate inspired things are automatically terrible. I love plenty of Marvel films that have bits and pieces of the Ultimate universe in them. I would simply prefer Marvel films to only use the 616 universe as inspiration.

I know there are a lot of things in the 616 that are hard to translate to film (like Electro's costume), but I think if you don't want to put in the effort to translate 616 ideas onto film then you shouldn't be making the movie. I am sure many of you won't agree, but I really don't care.

Saw it today with my lady and when Harry freed him, she immediately asks "where did those nice new shorts come from.". Then when they show up at Oscorp she says, "where did that nice custom-made suit come from?" I was wondering how Electro had such great control and understanding of his power overnight. At least with Spiderman they showed him struggling with controlling his powers and taking some time to learn how to use them.

Foxx as Electro looked pretty cool..but his performance as nerdy Max was ridiculously bad.
He way overdid the acting,I've known some dweebs in my day but his performance was a silly stereotype of a nerdy loser.

SPOILERS:

What annoyed me the most about this film is that I don't think Harry had enough motive to be a bad guy, I mean as a villain his origin seemed too shallow to me. Electro seemed better to me in terms of motive(ignoring acting), i mean schizophrenia was hinted at, he was a loner practically invisible, obsesive, rejected by society and tortured any of which would make you insane. Whereas harry was dying, sought out a cure, couldn't get it from spidey, got angry, got the cure anyway which sped up his disease even though he was warned. To me that just seems way to shallow.

I don't see a problem with this blue version of Electro, he looked great!
