THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Concept Art Delivers A Much Cooler, Comic Accurate Take On The Rhino

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 featured a trio of iconic comic book villains, but they didn't look that much like their counterparts in the source material. The Rhino, however, could have looked way better!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was, well, not overly spectacular! Electro, the Green Goblin, and The Rhino all disappointed, and not just because they didn't look much like their comic book counterparts. Electro was given bright blue skin and a rubber costume and Harry Osborn's Green Goblin was an ugly cross between the regular and Ultimate versions.

As for The Rhino, the comical Aleksei Sytsevich donned a massive mech suit with only a passing resemblance to an actual rhino. It was a design panned by fans, but some newly revealed concept art features a version quite a bit closer to what we were arguably hoping for back in 2014!

While he's still decked out in a mech suit, his overall appearance is one that makes him look a lot more like The Rhino we all know and love from the comic books.

It's hard to say why Marc Webb decided against heading in this direction, as it's no more unrealistic than what ended up on the big screen in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Ultimately, The Rhino was little more than a punchline relegated to a single scene which we had already seen in the trailers.

What are your thoughts on this alternate take?

Crap, why didn't you go with this Sony? Would've been better than the Transformer Big Bird we got.

@tmp3 - Technically a robot Rhino suit CAN be comic accurate. It was robotic in the Ultimate Comics.

@Nightwing1015 - He'd have to read comics to know that. Your overestimate his knowledge

Yuck. Why does Rhino need weapon-thingies on his arms? Rhino IS the weapon.

Was watching Downton Abbey yesterday (don't ask) and Giamatti randomly shows up for an episode and it made me remember they totally got this incredible actor to play the worst version of any Saturday morning cartoon villain for a total of 3 minutes of screen time.

I still can't believe how bad the Rhino was in this film...

Oleg Taktárov is perfect to play Rhino. Also, the character does not need to be played by someone talented. Rhino is brutal and idiotic. He does not need Giamatti.

Hell no, they would make It related to Tony Stark again, well if they were not downplaying the bioenginering angle of the Spiderman lore, I think they should streamline the origin for the mutated Spiderman villians like Scorpion, Rhyno, and Lizard, and make the related to the High Evolutionary(or another character who could fill that role), Maybe Even trowing Jessica Drew in the Middle.

We didn't spend too much time with Rhino in the film nor especially when he donned that mechanical suit so maybe if we got to see what happened after that cut to black things could've been different. But having a more faithful suit always works better.

That’s definitely a better design than the rhino mech suit we saw in the movie.

Cooler? Comic-accurate? No and no. (Don't get me wrong - the one in the movie sucked @$$, but this also - is not The Rhino.)

What a horrible movie. The ONLY good point about it is that it had the hands down best Spider-Man costume out of all the movies
