THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn Says There Are No Plans For A Sequel

Perhaps not too surprisingly after a disappointing run at the box office, director James Gunn has confirmed that there are no current plans in place for a sequel to 2021's The Suicide Squad...

Despite being a big hit with critics (it boasts a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes), 2021's The Suicide Squad underperformed at the box office, taking in just $168.7 million worldwide against a reported production budget of $185 million.

For this reason, a sequel always seemed like a long-shot, but with HBO Max spin-off series Peacemaker proving to be very popular and director James Gunn taking over as co-CEO of DC Studios, there was a slim chance that we might see the tag-tag bunch of anti-heroes that make up Task Force X in action again.

Unfortunately, another movie is most likely off the table.

During a recent appearance on the Inside of You podcast, Gunn was asked about the status of Peacemaker season 2 and another The Suicide Squad movie. The filmmaker confirmed that he'd be getting to work on Peacemaker after Superman: Legacy, but it sounds like Waller - which will feature a lot of the same characters - will be first.

When pushed on a potential The Suicide Squad 2, Gunn responded with a simple, "no."

Again, not really a major surprise, but it would be a real shame if we didn't get to see the likes of Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Ratcatcher (Daniela Melchior) and King Shark (Sylvester Stallone) again. Gunn has previously confirmed that we haven't seen the last of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, however - could she show up in Waller or Peacemaker?

Now cancel all the adjacent projects connected to that movie, including Peacemaker

@PlusUltra - Yeah, I loved Peacemaker but it stood alone perfectly. Leave it as it is, scrap Waller, and pretend anything before Superman Legacy never happened.

@PlusUltra - cancel your garbage opinions after all the hype you gave to that botched abortion that is the Flash film.

@McMurdo - Hype? You’re going on like I gave it a 10/10 glowing review, when all I said is I enjoyed it. Calm down.

No complaints. The first one was terrible but the sequel was just dumb.

I actually liked the first suicide squad, the second was absolutely garbage and peacemaker I never watched, hated the 2nd one that much, also not a fan of cena. They need a clean slate. Dump peacemaker and waller if done right, could be fun. They neer batman in waller.
