THE SUICIDE SQUAD Star Margot Robbie Looks Set To Earn Upwards Of $50 Million Following BARBIE's Success

Barbie has massively exceeded expectations and is now on track to be the most successful movie in Warner Bros.' 100-year history. The trailers promised a unique take on the iconic Mattel doll, but it's fair to say no one anticipated it being so culturally significant.

Filmmaker Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie have created something special, that's for sure, and the latter's reward for bringing Barbie to the party has been revealed.

According to Variety (via Toonado.com), the Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey star - who also served as a producer on Barbie - stands to make around $50 million in salary and box office bonuses. Gerwig is also expected to receive bonuses, though we don't have any details about how much that will be.

Barbie has so far made $526.3 million domestically and $657.6 million at the international box office. Its $1.18 billion global haul makes the movie 2023's biggest title, and it's hard to imagine any other title this year which comes close to earning that much.

Robbie's massive $50 million payday is well-deserved and significant for a female actor in Hollywood. Ryan Gosling co-stars in the movie alongside the actress as Ken, though it's unclear whether he'll also receive box office bonuses.

Talk of a possible sequel has dominated headlines in recent weeks, though neither Gerwig nor Robbie signed up for one prior to this movie's release. Should they decide to return, both women will have a tremendous amount of bargaining power with Warner Bros. and Mattel, likely netting a historic payday.

"To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place," reads the movie's brief synopsis. "Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken."

The epic ensemble includes Will Ferrell, John Cena, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Kate McKinnon, Dua Lipa and Helen Mirren.

Barbie is now playing in theaters.

Happy for my boy Gosling too. Bro has made great movies in the past 30 years without seeing big BO success. It was about time to land a hit.

Meanwhile writers go out on the street to make 1% of what she’s making here.
This doesn’t go against Robbie in particular but actors making over 10 million per movie is ridiculous and dilutes the legitimate protests of performers and writers fighting for fair pay.

If major stars and producers were willing to take less money and redistribute it fairly among the rest of the crew this strike would be over.

Vin Diesel earns 25M per FF movie, meanwhile CG is blamed for inflated budgets.

It’s talent that costs so much

@Blergh - Thats capitalism in general. if you only work for others instead of making a business yourself, you are never going to be financially stable. have a friend who works in sales for a fortune 50 company and since they missed the sales goal of increasing last years profits by 20 million (only increased by 18.8 million) none of them got a bonus. They all got an earful from the company, had to take 60 hours of development courses, were put on sales probation where everything like time/lunch were micro managed, etc. In order for the ceo and leaders to keep their jobs and pay, the company layed off several people in other departments, shipped those jobs to India, and are currently forcing senior members to train bots to replace their team before laying them off.

Fortune 50 company is not going to struggle but they treat people like shit. Mangers and leader will always take all the credit of their employees hard work...thats just life.

@Blergh - What's ridiculous is studio execs getting athletesque salaries and then moaning and groaning about profit margins.

Incredible feat of luck and marketing. Saw the movie last week and was stunned by just how awful it is. How did this preachy, vacuous piece of crap ever get made and why, other than a very smartly predicted payday, did Margot and Ryan climb on board?

The marketing campaign was possibly the greatest leveraging of a generational IP in the history of Hollywood.

I can't imagine the movie being tolerable for 90 seconds but that doesn't matter.

This is the movie theater version of that Pokemon Go AR gimmick that had people walking into traffic a few years ago.

Lightning in a bottle.

They'll probably confuse great marketing/name equity and public participation for message buy in/talented creators and filmmaking skill that will require a sequel that will be Jaws 2 at best.

She's a smart cookie invested in what she believed and was a big pay off; good for her.

Marvel thought she was asking too much for Sue Storm, so they let her get away. Somebody should have told them what a bargain it was to get her at a pre-Barbie asking price.

The perfect Sue Storm doesn't come cheap.

@ObserverIO - is she the perfect Sue Storm they are other blondes in Hollywood who could deliver something similar.......Sue is not really a special role per say I will say Dr Reed Richards and Doom are the more special roles in F4 .....but we will be more worried about the writing of the movie because that determines the depth of the acting we will be seeing.
