Cyclops Actor Explains Why "Superman Returns" Sucked

first of all i can't stand superman because he is pretty much a god. I like some of the movies, but superman returns was horrible it was like watching the first one again story line wise but better picture.....and i didn't like the actor who played superman/clark kent. Another Thing I Didn't Like Was How They Had A actor From xmen playing in the movie. This is why i don't think any actor that is in a comic movie as an important character like cyclops should play in another movie like in superman becuase it could confuse people. i think they should do another superman do it better get the actor from smallville and revamp it like they did the hulk

People need Superman now more than ever. And there's no reason he can't be a solid figure of good and still be interesting. There is so much potential for stories to be written for him. He is pure goodness with very few character flaws and even fewer weaknesses. Yet, there are so many possibilities within those weaknesses and flaws to be exploited by villains, and even sweeter moments of triumph for Superman to be had than we've yet seen on the big screen. I know that I could write a better story than has been written, and were I not trying to figure out where my next meal is coming from, I would.
We don't need darkness in Superman, but we do need a bit more physical strength and charisma than we saw in Brandon Routhe as Superman. And I hate to say that, but sometimes an actor, good as he is, just doesn't look the part. Instead of going for someone who looks like Christopher Reeve, we need someone who looks like Superman. Right? I think I'm right. Scratch that. I know I'm right. And while we're at it, find an actor with a better build and slightly more rugged good looks why don't we? I'm getting so tired of Superman on the screen having a boy-face. Aim for the comic book picture at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Superman.jpg . That is the template. He is Superman. In other words, no Brandon Routh, no Chris Welling, etc... We nearly all want to see him on the screen. Not some little guy wearing the outfit cut down to fit his smaller frame.
Superman's biggest physical weakness, is of course, kryptonite. It's also the biggest weakness I've seen in stories created about Superman: the over-reliance on the use of kryptonite. Okay, and too much Lex Luthor as well gets stale. It needs to come back to him occasionally but give him a breather in between.
Superman has other less obvious weaknesses. For instance, he is only one being. He can't be everywhere at once. Even though he is super-fast, he doesn't seem to have the complete speed package that The Flash is equipped with, yet I still think Superman's super-speed is under-used way too much in the movies.

His protection of us and other species is another. He often can't use the limits of his powers while he's in our atmosphere because the effects could be catastrophic to the planet. The fight between Superman and the merciless General Zod should have taken out a city or entire countryside, yet Zod seemed to be content with only endangering a passenger bus. He even commented on Kal-El's weakness and didn't exploit it any further, which was totally lame. Granted, that was done in the early 80s when our expectations and effects budgets weren't as high, but now we expect something much better.
This little rant of mine isn't quite organized, but in it you'll find all the primary points that will lead to a great Superman movie. Oh yeah, and quit rewriting Superman's history!!! He has no son. He just doesn't!!! How can you do that to us? To Superman! It's wrong wrong wrong wrong...............

Okay, so halfvulcan. You have got the right idea. Never have I heard someone put all the ideas I have and a few more of his own so eloquently. Thank God someone understands the amazing concept of Superman. He IS good, and that IS a good thing. He is meant to inspire. Don't get me wrong, I like dark heroes like Batman, because they make for great literature. But let us face it, Superman is the one hero who we can really and truly admire, because he inspires others and has a larger positive effect on the world than he does negative. Batman, you could say, despite all of his good intentions, fails to inspire sometimes. Gotham's citizens just come to rely on Batman more and more. And he also fails to protect Gotham by inspiring more villains who hate him like the Joker in Dark Knight. And though I admire Batman for his struggle and perseverance, I cannot see that he actually makes much of a difference. However, Superman does because he is a beacon of light, not a dark and fearful hero. And that's the kind of hero I would like to see on the big screen. Halfvulcan, if they cannot have you write the screenplay, they could at least take a cue from some of the great Superman graphic novels such as Superman For All Seasons and the recent All-Star Superman series. It IS possible to be good, and fun, and even intellectual!

Well the movie sucked mostly because it tried to please everybody. They used references and music from the Christopher Reeve films, but contradicted them. Also many people thought so before, but the new suit was more homoerotic than ever. Marvel is more for liberal stuff like that. DC fans mostly like values that don't change with fashion. A lot of people like to argue with me that Brandon looks like Chris's twin. Only Jor-El, Jimmy and Lex, played their characters believably. And the new ones too. Parker posey could have been a better Lois, in my opinion. Anyway, different people like to make movies differently. If you read any of what was trying to happen to Superman movies in the 90s, this was a LOT better than it could have been.

@Seal87- saying that by looking at the ideas for Superman films in the 90's, that this film somehow sucked less? That is a lame excuse for Superman Returns. Face it- the film TOTALLY SUCKED AND NEARLY REKILLED THE SUPERMAN FRANCHISE. There is no excuse for Bryan Singer being a total [frick]en PRICK and ignoring the comics and the fanboys and instead trying to SUCK on Richard Donner's DICK for that [frick]en discraceful film.
