Why Man of Steel could be the best CBM ever!

Could the upcoming "Man of Steel" be the best CBM we've ever seen? Hit the jump for my opinion!

In 2005, Batman Begins brought in $372,710,015. Pretty staggering for a CBM. The film had a budget of $150,000,000 and set the stage for the sequel which would rake in over 1 BILLION dollars.

2 years later, 300 was released and brought in a whopping $456,068,181 on a $65,000,000 budget. That's over 7 times the budget!

In 2009, The Dark Knight came out with a $185,000,000 budget, and brought home $1,001,921,825!

So by sheer numbers, we have the most successful CBM of all time. Now, Nolan is on board to produce a Snyder directed Superman film.

Superman is the most famous superhero of all time. Snyder's first CBM brought in 7 times the budget, and Nolan's second one brought in over 1 Billion dollars. The budget for Man of Steel is $175,000,000. If we assume that Snyder and Nolan can work together to achieve with the most famous super hero of all time the same thing they have both already achieved with properties that are slightly LESS famous, then we're look at $1,225,000,000 for Man of Steel. Now, those are my projections simply based on the numbers. Here's my opinion for WHY the movie will be the best TO WATCH!!!

Nolan's films are:
Following
Memento
Insomnia
Batman Begins
The Prestige
The Dark Knight
Inception

Snyder's films are:
Dawn of the Dead
300
Watchmen
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole
Sucker Punch

Nolan's films have mostly been heavy on the substance, leaving the audience with something to think about or even creating scenarios that require repeat viewings.

Snyder's films have been heavy on the style, giving the audience something awesome to look at. I got chills watching 300 the first time, and it remains one of the most epic movie experiences ever for me. Inception was one of the most talked about movies of the year leaving people scratching their heads and going back to watch it all over just to figure stuff out.

So if we give Nolan 10 points for substance and Snyder 10 points for style, we've got a winning combo for the The Man of Steel. Picture a bleak world with a lone light to guide the way. Imagine the awe of seeing this:

WB logo.

Legendary Pictures logo.

DC Comics logo.

Shots of Metropolis. Rain falls. We see a bum being beaten in an alley. Pan across the streets. Rain drains into the sewers.

LOIS LANE (VO): It was hard to imagine a life with any kind of hope.

Blackout.

TEXT: From the producer of the Dark Knight Trilogy and Inception

TEXT: And the director of 300

We see the inside of Lex Corp. Luthor shoots a man in his office.

LOIS LANE (VO): Politicians got away with murder,

We see police officers taking bribes.

LOIS LANE (VO): Even the police were crooked.

Blackout.

TEXT: The greatest superhero of all time.

LOIS LANE (VO): But then...

CITIZEN (VO): Look! Up in the sky!

CITIZEN 2 (VO): It's a bird!

CITIZEN 3 (VO): It's a plane!

Metropolis skyline. A red and blue streak pierces the sky at dusk.

LOIS LANE (VO): It was him.

Superman's crest appears on a darkened back ground, and slowly morphs to Zod's crest.

TEXT: 2013.

I'm pumped.

it will fail no one wants to see more superman. they know it won't be the best. so they moved it back to avoid marvel's competition. and thats why it won't be maybe not even good.

We haven't even gotten a picture of Superman's costume and your already declaring it the best cbm? Trust me I hope this is the best cbm but right now this is a bold statement to make.

"No one wants to see Superman anymore"

Really? Where'd you get that information from? Tell them they're stupid and wrong. Wait for the trailer to come out. Snyder's trailers always get people interested. Then when Nolan's name (which I'm pretty certain it will) pops up on the screen, people will already be sold on it.

Just watch. ;)

So your reasoning is for us to consider how much money past films have made, each director's previous films, and your imaginary trailer? Genius.

I predict (and I'm sticking to this prediction): Man of Steel will be a massive letdown, on par with Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3, Green Lantern, and Superman Returns.

WTF IS THIS SHIT? SUPERMAN WILL FAIL HARD JUST LIKE GREEN LANTERN AND EVERY OTHER DC CHARACTER ACCEPT BATS. THE ONLY THING THAT I CARE ABOUT THAT'S COMING OUT OF DC IS THE BATMAN MOVIES. THE REST CAN GO TO HELL.

how can anyone say a movie will be the best cbm ever,
when it hasn't even been filmed yet. in fact it sounds
like it ISN'T very good because it's being postponed
for another year.

Ya know what, people have said the exact same thing about Thor and Captain America and alot of other CBM, why should your's be any special? Your opinion is certainly taken into account but it's only that, don't go making a big article about a movie that doesn't come out for years. Plus, with the villain being Zod AGAIN, it may not be a big as we hope, it's nothing new at this point, just another Superman movie and casting Cavill really doesn't help.

So it seems I have started another Marvel vs. DC battle on this thread. And Superman wasn't in competition with Marvel films before. BATMAN WAS! Now Supes is up against 2 Marvel flicks. Way to be perceptive, Marvel fanboys.

This has the potential for being the best Superman movie to date, but not the best CBM.

@Hailtothekingbaby

We are in total [frick]ing agreement bro. I'm tired of this whole Marvel vs Dc bullshit. Yeah they're different but they're also the same...why? They both bring in supeheroes, expand our imaginations and open the doors to more possibilties. If Stan Lee read all of these comments from Marvel fans and Dc fans bashing eachother, he would laugh and call them all idiots.

They're comicbook companies. Not oil companies.

I'm hoping that MOS will be an outstanding depiction of Superman simply to restore him to the greatness he used to have. Ten years of that Smallville TV show has poisoned the minds of an entire generation into thinking that is what Superman should be like. I can't wait to sit in the theater and hear some kid whine that he's not wearing his "Blur" jacket.

LP4 - 7/22/2011, 4:45 AM
@GDSUPERGUY- Dude...we agree most times but 'YourMomNaked' never even brought up Tom Welling in this article.

Look, if we're going to go on about Welling, shit man...yeah he didn't wear the suit. But despite that handicap he still inspired me more than that hack wooden-actor Routh ever did in his nearly 3hour stint as Superman.

Yeah Routh wore the suit...but he certainly didn't EMBODY it. And it's funny but i've been hearing other people saying on other online forums that despite how much they used to defend Routh, the more they see him act in his other roles in other films, the more they realize just how 'wooden' his acting really is. He is a sad, disgraceful, monotone piece of crap who's career is down the toilet. But hey, he can always try to get another role as evil douchebag #3 IF that opportunity ever presents itself again...shyeah.

Ooookay now that we're past that little nitpick, let's get back to the point of this article.

I agree with Justsomeawesomeguy to a certain extent. I'm sure MOS will be the greatest Superman film but that aint saying much really. But saying this could be the greatest CBM ever IS I agree...way too premature considering that they haven't even shot a single frame of footage yet.

With the extra 6 months of filming, they had BETTER give us a damn good Superman film this time. Warner Bros can't afford to ass-rape Superman again. The older generation had their Superman films, then they got it catered to them again in 2006. It is finally time for the YOUNGER/MODERN generation of fans to have their Superman on the big screen.

I cannot stress this shit enough. IF I see ONE...just ONE nod to Donner, no matter how slight...I will walk out of the theater and not bother seeing the rest of the movie.

This is supposed to be the first time ever, that Warner Bros has actually taken a step AWAY from Donner.

Okay guys, I am getting worried again. I hope this thing doesn't get perpetually pushed back until it just doesn't happen. I appreciate this article, but it is a little weird to me. I think we should all figure out a way to get our voices heard at WB so that this thing gets off the ground, so to speak. Web petition? I will look into it.

@ TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY- when i said "in fact it sounds
like it ISN'T very good because it's being postponed
for another year." what i was saying was when they postpone
a movie, it usually mean it's not ready, it still needs tweaking.
so if this movie is being delayed because it needs tweaking,
you cant go and call the movie the best cbm ever before it
is even released or filmed.

I think it could be epic. It could be the Superman that we have all been waiting for. I don't know if I would go as far as saying it would be the best CBM ever but I think it would do good. Snyder and Nolan are going to be a killer team. I like Snyder becasue he knows how to keep close to the source material and Nolan is well he is Nolan. The man of Steel will be epic.

@BaneKill- You forgot to add that it could be better than Superman Returns to your list.

@GDSUPERGUY- Yeah I get that he's a huge Welling-fan. But look at all the freaken blind Routh-fans on this sit. The guy barely even said a [frick]ing word in the movie and all the people on this site freaken drool all over him and fought for him to be in what is supposed to be a [frick]ing goddamn REBOOT.

I'd say neither Routh nor Welling were good publicity for Superman. Superman deserves better. And hopefully...Henry Cavill will be the one to rectify those two horrible mistaken portrayals by those two equally bad actors.
