Possible Directors of the Superman Reboot

Editorial Opinion

It is at this time that I decided to list present possible candidates, as well as one that I am personally rooting for and wishing would actually be the director of the Superman reboot and give positive and negative reasons for each candidate as the director of the Superman Reboot.

Richard Donner: He is not a current candidate, yet one I would choose for the reboot. Yes I am aware that he directed the original Superman movie, but it was by far one of the best, if not the best to date. Donner knows the Superman mythology better than most and shows that he knows how best to present Superman. He has also shown himself to be a good director in other movies, like the Lethal Weapon franchise, the original Omen, Scrooged, Maverick, 16 Blocks, and many others, as well as Superman 2: The Richard Donner Cut. Christopher Nolan is actually using the original Superman and watching it to get an idea of how to bring about the reboot. Think about it, Chris Nolan as story creator and producer, David Goyer as writer of the story, and Richard Donner as director, it’s the best team I think could bring about the next modern and perhaps best Superman movie to date.

David Goyer: David Goyer has shown himself to be a talented writer who has helped on The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, The Crow: City of Angels, the Blade franchise and Jumper. He also has directed Blade Trinity and the Unborn, unfortunately Blade Trinity was not well received.

Jonathan Nolan: Jonathan Nolan is the brother of Chris Nolan and frequent collaborator of many of Chris Nolan’s projects. He has also dealt with story writing of films like Memento, the Prestige, The Dark Knight, and unaccredited rewrites on Terminator Salvation. Unfortunately, Jonathan Nolan has never directed any motion pictures before, but would be watched over by Chris Nolan.

Who do you want to be director of the Superman reboot?

I wouldn't say that Donner is a great choice, but I wouldn't rule him out just because he directed the old films. Campbell directed the reboot of 007 even though he had already directed Goldeneye, and Casino Royale was a fantastic film that introduced a very different James Bond.

I think Donner could potentially do the same with Superman.

I don't want Donner for the reboot. He'll make it like the old Supes films and I want this one to be COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. I want ACTION and a Lex Luthor that'll be a rich evil business tycoon. I say- NO to Richard Donner.

And for the record I agree with everything Superguy1591 just said. Superman 1= NO action, only sappy love bullshit. Superman 2 was the better film...but even that not by much. The Superman films have all been lame thus far. I want a completely NEW Superman. [frick] Richard Donner and the bullshit he created- the atrocity that is the real-estate lex luthor and superman turning back time? People already hate superman for having so many powers, let alone giving him the new power to TURN BACK TIME. Come on people laughed at that crap. Plus Margot Kidder as lois lane? I'm sorry but Lois was supposed to be a really hot woman, Margot is butt [frick]en ugly, good actress but just too ugly to be Lois. I want Superman to be more relevant and more REAL in our modern world. Like i mentioned earlier- Donner made Lex Luthor into a [frick]en joke in the film, he wanted Lex to be a comedy-relief type villain with the bumbling sidekicks...Donner was a dumb piece of shit who obviously must not have read the Superman-comics. Take Superman away from Donner once and for all people!!!!

Adding to what i just said- I refuse to have Richard Donner or Bryan Singer having ANY creative control over the Superman reboot. This film MUST be perfect. It MUST have ACTION mixed with a good and fresh new story. Lex Luthor MUST be based on the comics- rich and evil, business tycoon. No more real-estate!! Brainiac must be the main villain, can't have Superman without Lex Luthor of course, but I want the Lex/Brainiac teamup to be believable and clever. I wanna see Superman POUNDING brainiac with his bare fists! I want this next Superman to actually throw a punch and it better, or else WB will re-destroy the Superman franchise for probably another decade or so. Stupid mother[frick]ers better get Superman right this time.

@ superguy 1591- I was saying that Chris Nolan came up with this current superman vision by himself, but had said in some interviews that he would watch the original Superman to get inspiration from it, not that Nolan's idea came from Donner's film, Nolan was impressed with Donner's version and would try and get that same feel and angle for the story that he himself came up with

@LP4-You must keep in mind that with Richard Donner, if he by some small improbable chance direct, he would only be directing with the "Chris Nolan?David Goyer" idea and "Chris Nolan/David Goyer" approach to Superman, not presenting his idea again, but moving "their vision" forward, not his

Jon Nolan or Matthew Vaughn. More of the same with Jon Nolan, however, so I can't help but choose Vaughn.

@ anonymous,,,,THANK YOU!!!...frankly im tired of hearing pure negativity come out of LP4's mouth. We all want a PERFECT SUPERMAN movie....but i fear that if LP4 made it... we wouldnt get it. Superman 1 wasnt supposed to be an all out action film....it was an origin story!! it was a movie about divine beginnings... and why wouldn't you want your superhero to have a divine beginning? maybe he would have been happier having Superman originate not from another planet but the bastard son of nobody, pissed at his past and just beating the crap out of anyone who reminds him of his dark beginnings. The mythology of Superman is unique to that of any other super hero...why???? well he was the first super hero....and most if not all super heroes are without a doubt inspired by SUPERMAN and its because of his origin and who he is. People seem to want a darker superman that just punches things. well i guess they should all just jump on a band wagon for their own little BIZARRO movie because thats what they seem to want....and back then nobody laughed at the turning back of time....it was incredible and heroic and was accepted in a fictional storyline....now everyone wants to bring super heroes into a REAL WORLD....and so no you cant turn back time in this day in age but everyone wishes they could in regards to some aspect of their own personal lives. Superman 2 was great and epic for its day in age... and for the technology that was available there was a TON of action and received very very well. Donners movies and take on the mythology was very well accepted....i just cant believe all the criticism that gets thrown at these guys....IMO NOLAN is going to respect and deliver a SUPERMAN movie that will be very DONNER like especially if he is reviewing the DONNER films for inspiration...which is how it should be. and to all you GOD haters out there or for all those that have a problem with SUPERMAN being compared to being a SAVIOR,,,get off your high horse and go be a fan of some other superhero. Supermans mythology is epic because of where he comes from and why he is here. So as to corroborate to your point of view as having DONNER on board...i would have to agree. that would be awesome and it makes sense.
