Superman updates have been few and far between since James Gunn's DCU reboot officially wrapped principal photography back in July, but star David Corenswet recently took part in a Q&A for the Manly Things podcast, and shared some details about his preparation to play the Man of Steel.

The Twisters actor didn't really divulge anything particularly exciting (we'd say any questions relating to the plot were ignored), but he did reveal how many calories he was consuming in order to bulk up to play the Man of Steel: "Somewhere between 4500 and 5000 a day, when I was keeping track."

Corenswet was also asked what sort of obstacles he faced while shooting the movie, and answered quite literally!

Check out some clips at the links below.

Superman also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Sara Sampaio is on board as Lex's assistant/lover Eve Teschmacher, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell will play "Ma" and "Pa" Kent, and Milly Alcock's Supergirl has been confirmed to make her debut ahead of her own Woman of Tomorrow movie.

We're still not sure exactly how these other superheroes will factor into the story, but Gunn has previously revealed that Superman's dual-life as both Clark Kent and the Man of Steel will be explored in the film, suggesting that these characters will be his "super friends." Whether they'll be part of an actual team or not remains to be seen.

"And that’s a wrap," Gunn posted earlier this year when filming concluded. "God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set - and for that I am forever grateful."

Nice, would be cool if it showed on the suit tho.

Not really tho

Not like with Cavill

@MisterDoctor217 - To be fair Cavill’s suit had fake muscles built in. You can google pics of it online.

@newhire13 - only after man of steel. On his debut it's his body we see below the suit

@MisterDoctor217 - 🤣 He wasted his time. There isn’t a single muscle in that baggy scuba suit
MisterDoctor217

@newhire13 -

I think Cavill only got that muscle suit during pre production (I could be entirely wrong) because in the movie and sequels he definitely looks jacked asf in the suit, sort of how the Rock didn’t need any padding either.

Unlike Shazam , where Zachary Levi was obviously wearing a padded suit.
You could tell from a mile away.

I doubt that if Henry was wearing a padded suit that looked so natural, Warner Bros or DC couldn’t make a similar one for the Shazam actor.

@TheNewYorker -

I don’t think he wasted it, the dude certainly looks bulked up, maybe not as much as other superhero actors but he definitely seemed to put in the work.

But the baggy suit is not doing him any favors lol

@braunermegda - 😂 you’re nuts if you think he’s not wearing a muscle suit in Man of Steel. They all do. It’s hard to maintain muscle while shooting, that’s why they shoot scenes that show off their bodies first. And because of that they design the costumes with muscle suits and airbrushed muscle designs.

@MisterDoctor217 - They were going for a whole different , cartoonish aesthetic with Shazam. They def dialed it back by the time they did the sequel.

Comparing Cavill to Rock is insane to me since the Rock is practically a body builder.

@newhire13 -

I know The Rock is huge and is constantly gymming.

But dude Cavill was a beast in his time. Back in 2013-2020 he got progressively bigger and when he did The Witcher the dude was HUGE.
I remember there even being rumors that he had been offered many roles, including James Bond but he rejected them because he didn’t want to loose his musculature. He didn’t want to loose weight or become more slender and less jacked.

You can look it up.
So there was a time , when he was playing Superman , that he constantly was going to the gym , and it definitely showed.

@MisterDoctor217 - I’m sure he looks buff in a tshirt. But I don’t know how often he’ll wear one in the film LOL

Everyone that has played the role before can relate to his training regime in some way. Maybe it's a bit more difficult to stay in shape when you've got a TV series that comes out every year with more than just 8 episodes like S&L, maybe.

Cool guy. Great choice for Superman.

I thought he would say his biggest obstacle was forcing himself to put on that awful costume every day.

It would be refreshing if one of them came out and admitted they are pumped full of “chicken and broccoli.”

It still takes work but let’s be real here.
braunermegda
braunermegda - 9/6/2024, 11:23 PM
@BeyondtheFuture - genuine question: is the "chicken and broccoli" a joke or a way to say they juice without being explicit? I've seen some other actors say that, when it's CLEAR they juice
TheClungerine
TheClungerine - 9/7/2024, 2:58 AM
@BeyondtheFuture - honest question, why does it matter?

No shade, just asking.
BeyondtheFuture
BeyondtheFuture - 9/7/2024, 7:36 PM
@TheClungerine - unrealistic expectations for men and definitely teenagers. Quite similar to how models claim they stay in shape with a healthy diet when they in fact tend to purge.

Also using it long term isn’t healthy and similar to how the NFL has an issue with long term brain damage, I image eventually it will be revealed these actors are damaging themselves too. But largely just disingenuous and they aren’t athletes so there’s honestly no reason. It still takes a hell of a lot of hard work. But the gains they’re achieving, particularly the older actors are physically impossible naturally.
BeyondtheFuture
BeyondtheFuture - 9/7/2024, 7:37 PM
@braunermegda - yes it’s commonly thought as code when used in interviews etc.
TheClungerine
TheClungerine - 9/7/2024, 7:47 PM
@BeyondtheFuture - the results are not really unrealistic though. Most of the cmb bodies (except Hemsworth) are achievable and what he said in this video is basically what is needed to achieve those types of bodies. The only unrealistic part is the time period then add Hollywood camera trickery and these guys look huge.

Check cavil in the MOS bts pics, he is not as big as the camera makes out.

Now if we're talking fitness models and body builders selling workout plans and nutrition then I 100% agree
BeyondtheFuture
BeyondtheFuture - 9/7/2024, 8:30 PM
@TheClungerine - Achievable after years sure not months and it will always depend on genetics. Jackman’s physique is not achievable naturally for a guy his age. Dwayne Johnson - nope. Chris Pratt’s four transformation But yes I agree camera work and dehydration plays apart. However I have know doubt they pump them full of something and I don’t see the harm in admitting that. But I respect your opinion if you disagree.
TheClungerine
TheClungerine - 9/9/2024, 6:06 AM
@BeyondtheFuture - you're probably right regarding the transparency with the juice but ist a double edged sword. We now got kids jumping on gear before even trying to achieve what they can naturally and now more than ever I see roid heads like Sam sulek being praised for juicing.

But yeah don't mind me 🤣 I just wanted to hear an alternate perspective on the subject.

Hope the suit looks better in post, but the leaked Clark Kent disguise they've shown makes sense for a disguise at least. Clean cut Clark just slightly hunched over just doesn't hold up as well IMO.
