The show may be dead and buried, but that doesn't mean its former stars can escape the shadow of Smallville. Talking to MTV Splash Page at the premiere of Green Lantern, the actress looked back fondly at her time as Clark Kent's cousin, but seemed disappointed at the way thing ended between him and Kara in the final season.

"I really enjoyed being on 'Smallville.'"

"Season 7 was really the year the fans got to know me, and I was able to return a couple times and I'm happy we were able to wrap it up for the fans and I was able to say goodbye."

"I'm a little upset that Kara did not get to say goodbye to Clark personally. She just kind of watched from afar. But overall, 'Smallville' is fantastic and they did such a great job."

Were you disappointed by the way things ended for Kara or did the series finale itself leave you far more upset and annoyed? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Smallville had its high's and low's, the only really good thing about the show was the relationship Clark and Lois had. After the finale and how disappointed I was with it after watching the show for 10 years, I don't really ever wanna watch that show again

I am a HUGE Smallville fan and I have to say that the whole last season was underwhelming... especially the finale.

I agree with her about her final moments on the show. Chances are, Clark will never know what happened to her. This is why the show had to end. Not only were they no longer making sense, but the errors of bringing in both the character's of Superman career and situations before he had the chance to face them were failures in the making. The writers got very sloppy over the years, and they knew Kara's arrival should have taken place years after Smallville. The way I see it is that when the show was still in its earlier phase, they could have avoided all of the errors by adding more original characters and creating plots that were believable by adding more relatable current events before getting all DC about it so soon. The DC stuff could have joined in by the 7th to 8th season.

I agree with Intruder and VictorHugo.

I find it funny that she said she was a bit upset with how Kara left the show when the entire time the show was still on the air she kept saying how she felt the writers did the best job with her character. And now she's saying she wishes that they could've had one last goodbye. Sounds like she's just trying not to make any enemies in the television business.

Why keep holding it back? There's no further reason to stop saying that Smallville crapped on every Superman mythology most fans wanted seen on the show. Despite the fact that I think Laura was a pretty decent Kara... I just hate the fact they had "Supergirl" show up before Superman - like it's SOOOO logical to the bloody continuity - especially when she went public with the name "Supergirl" attached to her already before her freakin' big cousin laid down the legend of the S-shield.

@TheLight: I agree that they should've added the DC stuff in the 7th or 8th season, the only problem with that was that the writers themselves said that they weren't creative enough to come up with anything original so they couldn't possibly carry the show for 6 seasons and actually come up with new, bright ideas. This is the reason why Season 10 is so shytty! They said they couldn't think of anything else to do.

@TheCapedCrusader

I disagree. you can have a reasonable opinion, and in mine, Smallville did many excellent things but failed to deliver a satisfying finale. She's right, Lara should, after all that happened before, done more to have closure with Clark before she vanished. And after years of hype, the fans were desperate for that "last 5 minutes" of Clark in the costume. I still believe that it was a higher level corporate decision to prevent it, not a creative one on the show. it's a PR line for any other explanation.

Smallville, Green Lantern, Superman Returns

^ 3 huge things that DC disappointed me with. Shame Shame. At least Batman is still good.

And to think. I used to love Smallville, But then i saw the finale

@JULEZ13

I like you're thinking :)
The writers did exhaust themselves, but they weren't putting too much thought into the show so it looks like towards the end they were like "F--- it, let's just add what we can and finish it". It would have been cool to remember other story arcs that were minimal in Clark's life that could have been part of DC's mainstream timeline. BTW, do you think Superman'suit will look like the upcoming disaster in the comics for September, in "The Man of Steel"?
LOL
LOL - 6/20/2011, 9:55 AM
@JULEZ13 and TheLight -translation: they were lazy. With the rich history Superman has in DC, I doubt it to hell that they ran out of ideas. They were lazy, pure and simple. There's lots of good fanfiction out there that can prove them wrong... they just needed to look at the right places, especially DC's damn vault of Superman comics info. They could have easily lifted the "no tights and flight" rule when the original producers left to bring new dynamics to the show and turned Clark into a world-wanderer as he explored his heritage. It stopped being Smallville when he started making Metropolis his home turf.

Smallville was a great show. Period. It was so good, people that hated it - Still Blogged about it and tuned in every week to watch it... They told a story that had never been told, and managed to build their own universe in the process. Not bad with a TV budget... Let's see Marvel do that...

@The Light: Actually I don't think that WB will decide to go with the new suit for MOS mainly because they want to avoid public scrutiny at all costs. I understand that they may lose the rights after the film gets made, and that is why people are assuming that they may go with the new (crappy - imo) suit.
But I think they will go with the new suit if there's a sequel - which most likely there will be - if they really have to. They may not use Jim Lee's suit; by then who knows what other designs they would come up with for Superman. But overall, no. I strongly believe they will keep the classic suit. And also, this may be their last chance to get it right so even more reason to keep the suit.

Thanks for asking for my opinion on the matter. =]

@LOL: You're right. They were very lazy. But what me and TheLight were talking about is that they couldn't come up with any original ideas about Clark before he became Superman and went to Metropolis, before they broke out with the DC Rogues Gallery on the show.
Either way, overall, the writers were just not creative enough for the job. They had no right to be in charge of the storytelling for a superhero show when none of them even knew how to create a superhero storyline. (I'm assuming none of them have ever worked with a superhero because their writing was so terrible. The writing wasn't even mediocre, it was just down right shyt!)

@LoganX35...I suppose you could say she wore her own hero suit. I certainly wouldn't go that far. Her suit was barely half of what it should have been. No \S/ and no cape, just a blue top, red cheerleader skirt and red stripper boots. Still, hers was better than Matrix-Man, or Thriller Jacket-Man.

@JULEZ- For the record I agree with everything you just said- The writers were terrible!! I preferred seasons 1-5

@naterator- How can you honestly say you didn't like the way Smallville ended? Yet you loved Superman Returns?

The Smallville finale played out EXACTLY LIKE Superman Returns- Plane-rescue was nearly identical and Superman pushing a planet out into space.

That being said- I hate both Superman Returns AND Smallville. They both butchered Superman. but I will always cherish Smallville more to heart because seasons 1-5 were pure and utter GOLD. Plus Smallville kept Superman alive in the public consciousness.

Superman Returns was a film that found its way into the repressed memories of many.
