Lex Luthor IS Going To Be In Smallville

Now that Smallville's 200th episode has aired, we are at liberty to share more of what showrunners Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson told us at the screening press conference.

When asked if they had considered having a villain in episode 200, they confessed they did but that it felt unnecessary since they preferred to have Clark deal with this battle within him and not with something outside.

This episode had a bit of a Christmas Carol feel to it. Peterson said that he and Souders came up with this structure mid-way through the planning of the episode. Souders added that once they decided on this, they figured Brainiac would be the one taking Clark through time since he embodies where we've been and where we're going.

As to what to revisit from Clark's past, they picked pivotal moments in his life: Jonathan Kent's funeral (from episode 100) and the first time he saw Lana (Love and death as Peterson remarked.) Revisiting when he first saw Lana shows us how far he's come since then. Why no Lex? Peterson said that Lex will be a part of this season, so they chose to focus on the threads that won't be addressed, such as Lana, instead.

To all Chloe fans, now you know what we were talking about when we said we'd find out something new about her. She's in touch with the new reporters of The Torch and according to Souders, this contact is leading up to us seeing her again. By the way, who didn't love revisiting teen Chloe and her wall of weird?

As to the choice for the present, Clark sees Oliver dealing with what he fears most, Souders said, but it is worse to see his friend take the hit, added Peterson.

And the very last scene... Clark finally lets Lois in. Clark leaves his past in the past, and focuses on the moment. After seeing "Kara" we think it's safe to say that this realization is what's going to help Clark fly... they did float in the air while dancing, right?

Peterson and Souders also confessed that as of Tuesday, October 5, they know how the rest of the season will go. They have it all mapped out. And yes, we will have an upbeat ending.
