Man Of Steel Won't Effect Smallville Finale; No Physical Appearence Of Darkseid Expected!

Smallville's executive producer Kelly Souders reveals just how much of an effect Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot will have on the finale, seemingly reveals we won't see Darkseid in physical form and talks about Zod's return...

Here are three of the main excerpts from the report over at TV Line. To read a further five questions answered by executive producer Kelly Souders, click on the link below to head on over to the site.

Did the fact that Zack Snyder’s Superman movie is now cast and nearing production hamstring Smallville at all, as far as what can and can’t be shown in the finale?

Whereas in the past, the Brandon Routh Superman film, for example, led to early limitations on how much Smallville could use the character of Lois, the Man of Steel’s latest big-screen adventure had no impact on TV’s Clark meeting his destiny. Says Souders, "We work pretty closely with DC Comics, and everybody knew this [final arc] would be launching that concept of Superman, but it also is very much ending the chapter of Smallville. So no, there was nothing we had to pull back on. Everybody has been wonderful."

Will Darkseid assume physical form by season’s end?

The rumor that the corrupting essence would at some point appear as he does in the comic books seems to have gone up in smoke, no pun intended. (OK, fine, it was.) "Darkseid doesn’t exactly live by the same physical rules of our universe, but there is no question when his presence is felt," Souders explains. As the season winds down, "If you look carefully, you’ll see some [visual] remnants."

Just how angry is Zod when Clark meets up with him again in “Dominion,” airing April 29? (We’re thinking very.)

Last seen being banished from Earth at the close of Season 9, the Zod that Clark and Ollie come face-to-face with — in the Phantom Zone — is unlike any incarnation encountered to date. "We haven’t seen this Zod before — he’s kind of a combination of all the different Zods we’ve seen [on Smallville] into one character," says Souders. Wow, that’s a whole lotta angry rolled into one Kandorian. "He’s not happy," Souders confirms. "He has not had a good couple of months."

Good show...Better not to have Darkseid show physically than not doing him right, I guess they learned from the Doomsday debacle.

Now waiting for the Smallville haters.

Well it would have been cool to have seen Clark go toe to toe wiht that Titan. But oh well I guess will just have to settle for it on animation.

is that a fan manipulation image of welling in teh suit or the real one?

Thats pretty gay. a Huge Disappointment. They should have never made him involved if they didn't plan/know for sure that they could have an epic battle between Clark and Darkseid.

What's the point of having a key villain if you're not going to use him? Next thing they'll tell us is we won't see Clark in the suit.

All the fans of smallville and superman ask for is a proper representation of Darkseid, but that cgi is horrible. Also to please the fans they need to put clark in the superman suit for more than a couple minutes to leave us with the feeling that now he IS superman

I have been defending Smallville for years and if I dont see some sort of physical apperance of Darkseid, then [frick] the show. You cant just have all this attention given towards his inevitable coming and then not show up. Not to mention that they say that Tom will only be wearing the Superman suit for the last minutes of the show.

I love that manip of Welling in the suit. It looks so legit. Sucks he wont be trading blows with Darkseid though

you meant "AFFECT" not "EFFECT".

Since this is a recurring issue, here is an example for ya

i.e. - "this power has a weird EFFECT on me"
- "superman can not be AFFECTED by gama radiation"

I knew it, I knew it. SMALLVILLE IS FU*KING SH!T!

WHY even bring up the idea of Darkseid and string us along with him if they never even planned on bringing him into the damn show???

STUPID FU*KS!

And the whole time they lied..saying he would manifest as the season progressed.

You gotta be kidding me? No physical Darkseid? What the hell was the point of the season then? They could have just used the building of Lex's return to finish it up. SMH

Smallville is so fu*king cheap, they'd rather end the final season with Zod...then...we're getting Zod in the Superman reboot...FU*K!!!

I wanted to at least see Darkseid as the final villain in Smallville. This is fu*king lame. This is why I hate Kelly and Brian. CHEAP FU*KS!!

@ LP4 I love smallvile, but I completely agree with you on that. Kelly and Brian are SOOOOOOOO cheap... They seem to always screw us out of an awesome story or action.

@jduke25- Yeah I mean they always fall back on the use of Zod again. Brian and Kelly I can't wait to see them begging on the unemployment line after this abomination of a cheap-ASS show is off the air.

A quick listing of the questions asked in the article and some brief comments about them. Q:"With just five episodes left in the series — the series! — why does this Friday’s episode, “Kent,” use precious time to revisit alt-Earth?: Good question! I miss Johnathon as much as anyone but don't feel like this is drastically needed for Superman to begin.
Q:"“Booster” (airing April 22) finds Clark further fine-tuning his mild-mannered persona. So, how well does Welling do bumbling?" 9 1/2 seasons and now they bring in bumbling Clark? At this point I'm not sure if anyone watching is sitting on the edge of their seat to see if Clark nerds it up. Rip open your shirt and fly to the rescue dude! & Booster Gold and Blue Beetle!? Don't throw them into the mix at this point if your not seriously considering a spin off! Please - consider a spin off!
Q:"Just how angry is Zod when Clark meets up with him again in “Dominion,” airing April 29? (We’re thinking very.) ...Last seen being banished from Earth at the close of Season 9..." This is where I hope the show runners remember their own continuity. The CLONE Zod from last season was the one banished or sent away. The Zod in the phantom zone is the original Zod sent back to the zone by Clark around season 5. Original Zod on Smallville looked very much like the Zod depicted in the movies. The pictures shown of Zod in the article here looks like Clone Zod. Whats going on?
"“Prophecy” marks the return of Clark’s cousin, Kara (aka Supergirl), who has been laying low in (off-screen) Metropolis. Does she resurface on her own, or does someone find her?" Don't care. Unless it is spin off material.
Q:"Will Darkseid assume physical form by season’s end?
A: No. Thats kind of weird. Darksied was said to be The Big Bad. Now? I'm not sure what their doing?
Not too many shows get the opportunity to last a decade. For that reason alone I hope they are allowing Superman to begin in a spectacular way!

season finale biggest letdown in tv history.

you build darkseid up all season for clark not to fight him, smallville delivers again.
JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 4/14/2011, 10:34 AM
@marvel72 exactly. what's the point in even featuring Darkseid if you're only going to give him a total of less than 5 minutes of screen time the whole season, in a form of smoke.....ugh..

Smallville blows. I can't wait for this abomination and the people who worked on it are all GONE from our collective memories.

@marvel72- Very well-put my friend.

@Superguy- I concur with you and the tree, LOL

@jduke25- Yet another...Zod story...this is why live-action Superman stuff never works out well...

seasons are meant to get better & better, not the case with this show.

i still doubting if he'll even wear the iconic suit.

@marvel72- Thanks man. I feel your pain too, galactus cloud...was very lame. Darkseid-smoke-puff is just nearly as bad.

They pumped up Darkseid with his second appearance seeming more like his real body but then this sh!t...

Fu*k you smallville...oh and one final fu*k you.

Can't wait to see 'SuperBOY' appear in the very last 5 seconds of the finale. Ultimate let-down to people for watching over the past 10 years.

Congratulations. You've managed to successfully do what 70 some odd years of comics couldn't- write the character into the ground. You know what the finale should be? Just to assure the series' place in the pantheon of tv garbage, will smith should come out as muhammad Ali to recreate the ridiculous boxing fiasco from way back. Either that or superman versus the nesquik bunny.
