SUPERNATURAL Once Came Really Close To Crossing Over With SMALLVILLE

According to a former Supernatural PA, their writing team once pitched a very unique crossover that would've seen Sam & Dean Winchester cross paths with Smallville's Clark Kent! Come check it out!

With the recent surge of DC TV shows on the CW, the annual crossover events, which typically see heroes & villains from the entire universe join forces to stop a greater evil, have been a hugely successful endeavor for the network. Just last week, this year's four-parter delivered season-best ratings for their entire lineup, which includes Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow.

However, according to a new report, it sounds like there may have been a very special crossover in the works long before anyone thought four superhero shows could ever exist on just one network - but, it wouldn't have been multiple superheroes meeting up, instead it would've seen two of The CW's biggest hits ever - Smallville & Supernatural - come together in an episode for the ages.

During EW Radio's weekly Entertainment Weirdly show, former Supernatural production assistant Jackson Stewart (Beyond the Gates) called in and shared a few brief details on the one highly ambitious episode that their writing team could never quite crack: “There was a lot of really cool ideas that some of the writers had. They had an episode where they really wanted to do a Superman curse that was about every actor who plays Superman ends up getting killed. So they find out that Tom Welling from Smallville is next and have to save him. I thought that was one of the funniest ideas that I’d heard.

Talk about high-concept, but then again, Supernatural has never been a show to shy away from the meta- or even super-meta, having once done an episode where Sam & Dean are transported into our world, where they learn that their real world counterparts are just well-paid actors on a television show that not a lot of people seem to watch.

Smallville ended its storied ten-season run back in 2011, but Supernatural is still going strong today in its twelvth season, so if they really wanted to, they could theoretically pull off this crossover with a little reworking if Tom Welling was interested in returning to The CW for a guest spot. Welling also does have past ties to Jensen Ackles, having worked with him during the fourth season of Smallville, when Ackles was a series regular. Plus, Dean Cain & Brandon Routh are both working on CW shows at the moment, so they could get really creative with the Superman concept if they chose to.

So, what do you guys think? How badly would you have liked to see Clark Kent cross paths with the Winchester brothers? Sound off with your thoughts below!

The one CW show that just doesn't feel like your typical one. Great series carried by 2 great lead actors, love this show and once it finally ends, it's gunna be bitter sweet.

@Menks123 - Totally agreed. Season 5's ending Swan Song would have been a great end, but I'm glad it kept going.

@SychoSid716 - I've always said that would've been a perfect place to end it.They haven't been as good since. I am enjoying this season though.

I'm glad this didn't happen. These shows should just stick to DC Comics characters.

You would think that, after ten years of Smallville, people would know not to watch Gotham while being a purist.

I'm glad they didn't do that because I really want Tom Welling as the main baddy for at least a season on Supernatural. They all have such similar builds I want to see them knock each other around!

@ComicsBornAndBred - I actually enjoy Amy Adams' version a lot more. I get why people would like Durance more. Her lines were straight out of the comics, but there is something real about Adams' Lois, and how she isn't afraid to get in front of god and monsters destroying the city.

@ComicsBornAndBred -I adore Smallville but damn, those gifs don't do Welling's acting chops any favours, lol.

@DavidGray - I love Smallville too. It helped me get into comics.

@ComicsBornAndBred - Cool, man. I was already into comics (Spidey, and X-Men) by the time I got hooked up on this series, but Smallville is really the reason I ever got interested in Superman. It helped keep the mythos alive imo.

@DavidGray - the only comics I was into before Smallville was the X-Men. i was maybe 7 when Smallville started so. Smallville got me into Superman but comics all together because I liked the use of mythology on Smallville and so I wanted to see how all types of superhero comics did it.
