That's a wrap on Superman!

We expected cameras to stop rolling at some point this week, and James Gunn has now taken to social media to announced that principal photography on the first ever DCU movie is complete.

The filmmaker also shared a photo, but not the new still fans were hoping for. The behind-the-scenes shot was taken during the first week of filming in Svalbard, Norway, and features David Corenswet (Superman), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) and several other cast and crew members wrapped up against the elements.

"And that’s a wrap," Gunn wrote with his post. "God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set - and for that I am forever grateful."

Superman also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Sara Sampaio is on board as Lex's assistant/lover Eve Teschmacher, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell will play "Ma" and "Pa" Kent, and Milly Alcock's Supergirl is also rumored to make her debut ahead of her own Woman of Tomorrow movie.

We're still not sure exactly how these other superheroes will factor into the story, but Gunn has previously revealed that Superman's dual-life as both Clark Kent and the Man of Steel will be explored in the film, suggesting that these characters will be his "super friends." Whether they'll be part of an actual team or not remains to be seen.

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday,” Gunn captioned the first official photo earlier this year. “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’ By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN,” he added. “Making our way to you July 2025.”

@WakandaTech - one of them will be good. And it's probably not Thunderbolts considering Pullman is Sentry lol

@McMurdo - I think Pullman is perfect for the role. Watch Top Gun...he can certainly play the dimwitted drug addict...

Definitely excited for it since it's been so long since we've had a live action Superman flick. I just hope the movie makes good use of all the other heroes being featured.

@ModHaterSLADE - Deadpool & Wolverine made great use of utilising other characters, sure most of them were already set up but you’ve gotta just trust the audience will roll with character development from the get go and not need to set it up in CBM’s today.

I mean just look at MCU Spider-Man and the upcoming FF.

@ModHaterSLADE - I agree. It's been since 2013. However, the wait after Superman IV for a new Superman film was unbelievable. 1987 to 2006. and then, we just got Superman Returns that was just "eh." It's kinda like how stunned and let down Star Wars fans felt after Phantom Menace debuted. It had its moments, but overall was not what people were expecting.

Definitely enough time now to make a teaser trailer by the time of Beetlejuice's release

@HermanM - I don’t think we’ll see a teaser until November/December time unfortunately.

I feel they’ll let the movie die down a bit, give them some breathing room to start post.

Then they’ve got a 3 trailers to drop between January/June time, ramping up the marketing.

So much pressure riding on its shoulders. Hopefully it does the Man of Steel justice!

Not excited at all, everything I've seen so far looks pretty meh.

I'll wait for the trailer to decide if I'm gonna pay to see this

CharlesLeeRay - 7/30/2024, 6:20 PM
@DeadClunge - like that's why trailers are made for… not some photos from film sets.
comicfan100
comicfan100 - 7/30/2024, 6:25 PM
@DeadClunge - You mean set photos? You can tell if a movie is "meh" just from set photos?
TheClungerine
TheClungerine - 7/30/2024, 6:27 PM
@CharlesLeeRay - yet people have already decided that this will be the best superman film yet without seeing a single frame of a trailer. They used photos to decide they're excited why can't I use the same photos to judge If I'm not?....
TheClungerine
TheClungerine - 7/30/2024, 6:28 PM
@comicfan100 - yep, the same way people can tell the movie looks good.

Set photos have given us an indication on the size of the cast and the overall aesthetic of the film.

So far I'm not impressed.
McMurdo
McMurdo - 7/30/2024, 6:28 PM
@DeadClunge - not photos. Gunn's film discography. Guardians 3 was that good. TSS was by far the best DCEU film. Peacemaker was great.
TheClungerine
TheClungerine - 7/30/2024, 6:32 PM
@McMurdo - you forgot to write IMO 😅😅

Guardians 3 = forgettable
TSS I liked a lot
Peacemaker was so childish I couldn't finish it

All my opinion of course
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 7/30/2024, 6:49 PM
@DeadClunge - Guardians 3 really just came and went and left no lasting impression. I bet his Superman movie will be the same.
vectorsigma
vectorsigma - 7/30/2024, 10:12 PM
@FireandBlood - what lasting impression do you need and can you give an example?

It wasnt marketed like hell unlike d&w but still performed great.

And are you honestly comparing superman with gotg? The last superman novie was divisive so a lot are looking forward to a good superman movie which gunn will definitely deliver.
vectorsigma
vectorsigma - 7/30/2024, 10:15 PM
@DeadClunge - bashing gotg3 and having a D&w profile pic is laughable.

Deadpool is as childish as peacemaker, lolz. Boohoo, the avengers did not accept me, the boys will see that as a compelling sob story.

Imo ofc
vectorsigma
vectorsigma - 7/30/2024, 10:26 PM
@McMurdo - it is funny how one ignores the director's great discography and outright says it is meh so far while defend a badly written movie because it got great BO results

Some marvel things this wont do

- have rewrites/reshoots
- actors not together in a scene, lolz
- rely on shock and cameos to lift the film
- a kid friendly version to boost the BO lolz
TheClungerine
TheClungerine - 7/31/2024, 2:31 AM
@vectorsigma - obviously youre entitled to your opinion but do you hate marvel or something? lol

FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 7/31/2024, 4:32 AM
@vectorsigma - Well any, for starters. But it didn’t. It came, went and nobody’s spoken about it again.

And yes, I am. Guardians of the Galaxy is a far more lucrative franchise right now than Superman, because the last however many Superman movies have been dog shit, so nobody gives a [frick]. I’m sure he’ll deliver a competently made movie, but will anyone really care? Doubt it. There’s nothing exciting about it because it’s just another Superman movie being used to jumpstart another cinematic universe, and you’re going to have to do better than that to move the needle when it comes to this dying franchise.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 7/31/2024, 4:34 AM
@DeadClunge - He doesn’t hate Marvel. He hates the fact that Gunn’s DCU will always play second fiddle, just like the DCEU fans of old.
TheClungerine
TheClungerine - 7/31/2024, 5:07 AM
@FireandBlood - 😅😅😅

Ahh I get you lol.

I was trying to figure out his animosity towards D&W but his praise for everything Gunn related 😅
vectorsigma
vectorsigma - 7/31/2024, 5:41 AM
@DeadClunge - i hate marvel's decisions right now. But i still buy my tickets so i am no full hater

What about you, you hate gunn or dc? Lolz
vectorsigma
vectorsigma - 7/31/2024, 5:43 AM
@DeadClunge @FireandBlood - lolz , needed a tag team? 🤣
TheClungerine
TheClungerine - 7/31/2024, 5:46 AM
@vectorsigma - I love DC, probably more than Marvel.

I hate WB though and Gunns films aren't always to my liking. So far what I've seen looks like a major stepdown visually and tone wise although the story will definitely be better than what came before. I am happy Gunn hasn't killed off Clark kent the way snyder did tho
