BOX OFFICE: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Soars To The Top (Again) At The U.S. Box Office

Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reclaimed the #1 spot atop the U.S. box office on Tuesday, August 19 beating the overrated Guardians of the Galaxy.

Since it was reported that GOTG had gotten back the top spot in the U.S. box office, I thought it'd be nice to point out that TMNT was number one on Tuesday. Paramount's magnum opus, which reigned at the box office for two weeks, took in $3,513,719, while Marvel's film made a paltry $3,511,416. For you mathematically challenged, that is over $2,000 more.  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had an estimated production budget of $125 million and a current domestic gross of $124,080,722, however it hasn't opened in numerous foreign territories.

Will the box office fluctuate again like it usually does on weekdays? Chances are yes, but for now the turtles are dining on Groot soup.

  1. The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder's diabolical plan.

And it doesn't have anything to do with Nostalgia/"Childhood Raping", by the way.

First, I don't believe that childhoods can be raped by movie adaptations/sequels/remakes like other melodramatic fanboys do.

Second, I don't have any nostalgia with TMNT. To this day, I haven't watched a single episode of any of the cartoons. I only know them from the movies and games.

My problem is that the turtles design DISGUSTS me. Literally disgusts me.

Which is a shame because I was actually curious about this, but I don't think I can sit through a movie in which I can't stand to look at the main characters...

I'm sure a lot of the users are either asleep or maybe some are at work. So this article won't be going doing the sh**ter right now. If it's still up 12 hours later, I'm sure it'll end up with at least 5-8 pages of flaming.

GOTG is getting the hype it its because Disney is buying critics off and promoting it like crazy, they made more than 20 tv spots, yet they're only gonna get a few bucks in china and japan which could only double the current BO.
SusanFuentes
SusanFuentes - 8/20/2014, 11:20 PM
DCGuy - GOTG is quickly catching up to Man of Steel's total domestic gross and by the time it opens in China and Japan it should leave it eating shit. Not to mention people actually walked out of GOTG satisfied and joyful instead of depressed and bored like with Man of Steel. How does that make you feel?
SusanFuentes
SusanFuentes - 8/20/2014, 11:22 PM
BatmanRobinNightwing - Almost every moviegoer and critic that saw GOTG loved it, the box office numbers show it. You are in the small, very small minority that thought it was overrated or not good. YOU get used to that.

DCGuy - Well I guess, but this isn't the usual DC vs Marvel article. So I doubt it'll reach past 8 pages, unless people start a DC vs Marvel war.

I'm not looking at the box office gross but what is the average per screen. That's what tells you if a movie has staying power GOTG, as an older film, is in less screens currently than TMNT and still making more money per screen. If these movies had the same amount of theatre screens then it's obvious which movie would be on top.
