The absence of connections between Arrow and the DC Films would be a good news!

“We haven't had any of those conversations other than to say, what characters are we allowed to use this year and advocate or request certain ones that are of interest to us. And every now and then, they'll say, 'You can't have that guy.' They don't say why, and we figure out why later on.”

I'll explain in this editorial why I'm glad to hear that and hope that this quote hints toward no connections.

The overuse of not Arrow vilains and allies, the powers and the costumes

Brother Blood, League of Assassins, Huntress, the Flash, Deadshot, Deathstroke?

Do you know that Brother Blood is a major Teen Titan and now Animal Man vilain? League of Assassins, Huntress and Deadshot are major elements of Batman. Deathstroke is Teen Titans/Justice League material.

Huntress is strongly associated with the Batman universe. "During their brief time together Oliver tries to change her cause, and teach her the difference between justice and revenge making her his protege". Batman sort of did that not GA. And look at her costume and compare it to the future Batman costume. We have not seen it yet, but it will surely not look like it was created for Smallville.

Look at Deathstroke. Do you even know what he looks like in the comic book? Do you know he has "powers"?

Do you really think that Deadshot would let himself be hit by an arrow in the eye? And look at his absence of costume. Is it hard to find military gear? Don't give me the "he must disappear in the crowd argument", just look at Arrow or Black Canary.

In Man of Steel, Superman had its costume, a little bit different than what we know, but they did spend money on it, as they will on Batman's costume. Also, the Kryptonians all had great costumes/armors. They showed us how powerful these beings are and they USED their superpowers (heat vision, flight, super strenght, super speed). Will we ever see Brother Blood use sorcery in the CW show? No.

What would be the point of mixing these two universe? Can anyone in the Arrow harm or be a threat to Superman? Or is anyone was written intelligent enough to take down both the Bat and Superman?

The actors

Do you want to see CW actors playing along with oscar winning Ben Affleck, or oscar nominated actress Amy Adams? These guy don't play on the same field. I know Amy had a role in a Smallville episode, but it was just ONE episode.
Did any of the REGULAR CW actors made it to the big screen? Only a few maybe, like Blake Lively. Other than her, just look at the cast of Smallville. Secondary roles go from one CW show to another.

Other

Greg Berlanti was one of the writer of Green Lantern. Some may not like Goyer, but Berlanti was one of the guy who participated in this failure called Green Lantern. So far, Goyer has been in successful with its big screen projects.

I would not mind seeing Stephen Amell being Green Arrow in a Justice League movie, but GA is not needed in a JL movie. It would actually be interesting to see a Justice League of America team created as a counter measure against the Justice League (see recent new 52 stories).

Conclusion and thoughts about the Flash

My major rants against the CW show is how poor the stories, the actors, the sets and the costumes are. Also the misuse of some major DC characters makes me rage. So far, we have not seen random Teen Titans or Bat characters showing up in Man of Steel, but that's the kind of thing that happen with Arrow. Arrow is too random with its characters and has to deal with 20 episodes per seasons which is a synonym for poor quality (filler episodes, 40 minutes format, budget per episode).

If CW is doing a Flash show, it's probably for marketing purposes.

First, in terms of budget, it must not be that expensive to do it. Look at Smallville, it felt more like a super-strenght Flash TV show. Also in terms of knowledge about the characters, everyone must have heard about the Flash. It's easier to do a Flash tv show than a Martian Manhunter or Aquaman show. The goal is to occupy the small screen with DC characters and make them popular. Did people got confused with Man of Steel and Smallville? They did not aired at the same time but the pleb is not that stupid.

Second, you are going to see the same speedster character in two different movies soon (Quicksilver in Avengers 2 and in the new X-men movie). Why not pull a small carpet from under Marvel's feet? It will certainly touch less people than Avengers 2, but the buzz around a new Flash TV show will make sure that people are reminded of who the real speedster is.

Maybe the WB is still hesitant to greenlight a Flash movie, so they test and try to increase the popularity of the Flash with a TV show. The goal is to make the Flash exist in people's mind like a product.

Completely off topic, but I think Green Arrow should use some sort of Google Glass technology with his new mask.

Thanks you for your time, if you made it this far. Let's discuss about it politely.

When was it announced there was no connection between the two things?

Yeah, I'm with Nova, when was this announcement made? If you're using that opening quote as your source, then you're an idiot. That quote only says they haven't talked about it, not that there will definitely be no connection. If there is a different quote, then give it, and give us your source for it.

Aside from the issue pointed out by @Nova and @Lhornbk, let's look at the rest of the article. First off, your point about costumes is dumb. If any of these characters from Arrow were to appear on film, who says they can't have they're comic book look? Deathstroke's certainly getting his suit AND his powers soon. The actors issue, only GA, Deathstroke, LoA and Flash would be in the movies, and Amell and Bennett could definitely carry over. They could still use LoA since they haven't showed Ra's or Talia(and I don't think they will) and they've been pretty badass on the show so far. As for Flash, I'm not sure Gustin could stand up next to Affleck and Cavill, but they sound VERY confident about him so who knows? He could(and probably will) do a great job."Can anyone in Arrow harm or be a threat to Superman?" OF COURSE NOT, and they don't need to be. These characters(and actors) would work fine on film. So yes, it'd be a good thing if they were connected, but even if they weren't I'd still be fine with it because Arrow would still kick-ass.

If the two universes are connected, the DCCU would have established lots of characters with no film needed.

Just no goyer for jla ....please .... Goyer got the credit of the dark knight trilogy(Nolan put some sence in his script)....if it wasnt the awesomeness of snyders visuals then mos would have suffered from his poor writing...

I don't know why people protest so hard for them not to be connected. Do people honestly think Snyder and Goyer can create a functioning universe by themselves? Why wouldn't they use Arrow when they already have Solomon Grundy, Black Canary, Flash, Brother Blood, Deathstroke etc. This is the closest we have o a universe so far and they want to disregard all of the characters already integrated into Arrow.

Everybody needs to take it down a notch. It's an editorial. Dude can express his feelings.

With that being said, I'm one on the fence. I really like the show but about the one thing I would like to accept into the DCCU is Stephen Amell as Green Arrow and maybe...MAYBE...Laurel Lance (if only because she is extremely integral to the GA mythos). The caliber of the show is simply too low compare to a high budget summer blockbuster film. That goes for most/any television shows vs movie. The actors (outside of the main cast) have been shoddy at best. With that being said, I wouldn't mind if the show and DCCU was connected but they recast most of the villains (including Deathstroke--this coming from a fan of Manu Bennett and enjoyed his performance in Spartacus series and the Hobbit) and re-designed their costumes (especially the League of Assassin). About the only character I absolutely do not want to transfer from Arrow to DCCU is the Huntress.

Let's also keep in mind that none of the character and villains used in Arrow (except GA and BC) would probably ever appear in a DCCU film.

I'm currently writing my own editorial about the Flash so I'm not going to comment on the dude. I'll simply say I ain't satisfied.

I want to clarify...when I "caliber of the show"...it's most evident when you compare high budget costumes vs low budget tv costumes.

As of right now, nothing has been "ruined" by Arrow. I like their versions of Deathstroke, The League of Assassins, and Oliver Queen. I would be fine if those characters existed in the MoS universe.

I agree with your points. I'm actually relieved that Arrow is set in it's own universe and wont disturb Man of Steel's main cinematic universe.

I'll just repost this. This is what Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti said when asked if they had talked to WB about a shared universe:

"We haven't had any of those conversations other than to say, what characters are we allowed to use this year and advocate or request certain ones that are of interest to us,"

"And every now and then, they'll say, 'You can't have that guy.' They don't say why, and we figure out why later on."

This does not mean that the WB executives are not taking this into consideration still. This simply states that Greg has not been approached regardless of the rumor. He did not say they were telling them it wasn't going to happen, just that they haven't contacted him about the option. The fact that they won't allow certain people introduced on the show says a lot. Why would it matter if they were separate universes. It didn't affect multiple versions of Supes with Smallville and Superman Returns. Basically, he didn't deny anything.

I truly believe it's banking on Gustin. Nothing is confirmed until WB releases a statement stating it isn't. Until then all of this GAME OVER speculation means shit. Maybe Greg is trying to ease pressure off of Grant's future performance.

Most of us aren't polishing hope either. We just think it's stupid they wouldn't take advantage of this. Most that don't like it, I don't think really give it a chance in the first place. It has changed into a pretty good action styled melodrama, into an over the top super hero show. Much to the level of the early seasons of Heroes and early CBMS even... good ones at that.

Besides, outside of The Flash(they can go with Wally and maybe John Stewart for the movie, and bring Hal to the shows, and I would be fine with that), and possibly Ollie they really don't have to connect anything besides making reference to the connection with the movies and shows. Arrow, The Flash, and the other shows can just flesh out the universe.

Anyone stating that it's a bad idea due to some people not having CW, are not thinking clearly. It makes a hell of a lot more sense to have an actor a large amount of people associate with that character, do a little bit of a intro scene/ flashback within the movie for people that don't know him, then to bring someone that no one associates with him and start from scratch. I don't think I'm crazy. To me and many others, all these things collectively makes far more sense.

Let me just interject with this thought: Ben Affleck is not some sort of Ian McKellen, untouchably elite thespian just yet. (If that sort of thing is even the basic of a good argument to begin with...)

His acting reputation has improved of late, and I am not ragging on him, but every time that someone makes a statement like, "Do you want to see CW actors playing along with oscar winning Ben Affleck...", I cannot help but turn my head at an angle and give the screen an odd look.

On this topic in general, I could go either way.

Why it would be a good news?
Grammar, dude.
This seems like an 'Arrow sucks cause it's on the CW!' Article from a guy who probably hasn't even watched more than at least five episodes.
