CIVIL WAR II teases Worthy Thor and the return of...

Thor and his mythos have been drug through the mud ever since Original Sin, but now that all might be about to change. (SPOILERS!!!)

At the end of CIVIL WAR II Ulysses had a series of visions teasing multiple upcoming marvel events like IvX and monsters unleashed, but the one thats catching everybodies attention is the image above which shows a now Worthy Thor getting ready to battle Loki wielding All-Black the Necrosword!

Whats so exciting about this? Well unless youve been hiding under a rock for the past few years or arent a nerd (why are you on this site?) you probably know that Thor became unworthy and Jane foster became "Thor". Needless to say most Thor fans hated this as well as the subsequent changes to Asgard and the beloved Thor mythos. Many fans have rejected this new take on asgard and have been waiting forever for Thor to become worthy again, in the mean time reading only thor comics from before the Fem-Thor madness which leads me to the second reason everyone is so hyped... the Necrosword.

The god of thunder comic arc is considered the last great thor comic arc and was, ironically, the first thor arc written by Jason Aaron who created Fem-Thor. In the arc we are introduced to a brand new Thor villain called Gorr the god butcher, a mortal alien from a barren world abandoned by its gods. Gorr tragically loses his family to starvation and denies the gods, then one day two deities fall from heaven, one holding the Necrosword, a weapon old as galactus and made to kill gods. Gorr kills the gods, takes the sword and thus begins an epic saga featuring Thor's, time travel, alien gods and a final stand for all divinity in the marvel universe. In the above image it appears Aaron is finally bringing his story full circle, what began on the distant alien world of Indiggar seems to finally be coming to a conclusion and i for one am excited beyond belief.

How Thor becomes Worthy again, how Loki obtains or is possessed by the necrosword and what if any involvement Gorr has in the story is still unknown, but i and many Thor fans out there cant wait to find out.

@asgardianbrony

How was this event overall? Worth picking up in trade?

@blackandyellow - it was ok. Worthy of a trade but other than that it's just ok.

@RancidBane - Cool. Did they reveal what Fury said to Thor at the end of Secret Wars to make him unworthy?

@blackandyellow - I don't remember seeing it but I could have missed it.

From what I understand the Jane Foster Thor series has been incredibly well received. I've not really seen anyone complain about it, and I've been reading it and enjoying it. They will most definitely bring Odinson back. But I hope it doesn't ruin the current Thor series in the process.

Did we ever find out what specifically made Thor UNworthy?

@Dunejedi - not yet no.

What the hell did Nick Fury say to Thor, that just knowing it makes him unworthy.

@Odin - nobody knows yet. I think its supposed to be revealed in the unworthy thor mini series.

You only really need to read the Godbutcher arc to see in the future Thor gets Mjolnir back. Jane FosThor is only temporary.

@jamesdnyc - me to man, but I highly doubt it will happen. the Gorr story arc is far removed from your typical marvel film.

So most people seem to think of these as possible futures. Not necessarily upcoming events. But who knows?

Hope it happens and it's not some alternate future bullshit

See...I loved the God Butcher storyline, but Marvel has been switching things up so much every few months I kinda just walked away from all of their stories. Now I'm seeing stories like this and find myself wanting to get back in the know. But where to start? LOL.
