Thor Passes $150 million Domestically, which bodes well for a potential sequel!

This news bodes well for the Thor sequel to get green lit sooner, according to many box office reports Thor reached 150 million Domestically on Thursday and passed the 400 million total gross mark on Friday. According to many estimates Thor should do about 9 Million over the weekend and close to 12 million over the 4-Day Holiday and reach around 162 Million and will probably top out at about $170M. Thor still has yet to be released in Japan but has reached about 250 Million internationally and is still doing well and by weekends end will pass 250 million. It probably doesn't have enough push to pass 300 million but will get close. Thor was already likely to get a sequel anyways based on it's opening Internationally but after Avengers Thor popularity might be even better which may get the good ahead to maybe be released the same year as Iron Man 3 in 2013.

thor hasn't done that well in america really,it has done better around the world.

maybe could be part of the reason why they release it almost everywhere else before america.

as long as what its gross guarantee's a sequel,i'll be happy.

@ Marvel72 - I agree, it has done well but not as many probably thought. It could have been better imo but naturally Marvel fans will say otherwise to protect their property.

In my opinion, sci-fi, fantasy or cbm they should at least come close to it's international total by at least 75%. If it's short then I think it didn't shine as it should have.

Now @ Cross - why do you need to come up in here and start talking smack. Listen before talking smack do a little research,

Batman Begins went on to gross $205,343,774 domestically and had a worldwide total of $372,710,015
while
Superman Returns went on to gross $200,081,192 in North America and $191 million internationally, earning $391,081,192 worldwide

My dude don't start beef especially when you're wrong. Your boy Thor is expected to tap out at $170mm, you're $30 - 35mm short nationally. I don't need to do the numbers for you internationally do I?. Do the math.

I think he was talking about the world wide totals there . Thor has passed them and both those movies weren't the first they were reboots .

At the end, it doesn't matter if it's a reboot. CBM remake or not, it is what it is. Now I think it's more important the box office numbers are higher in the states than international. If you want bragging rights pay attention to the States figures, if you want sequel look at the international numbers. Because if Thor didn't break the $100 mark here in the states I bet the sequel would not be as big. The total numbers would just put it as, "ok something to think about down the line" kind of thing. Imo

First let me say I like bb not so much sr but isn't 400 million more than either of those movies took in and Thor is still in theaters. Mojo is expecting a domestic of 170-180 on top of the 250 overseas so it will likely be around 450 million or so. I my be missing the point but the numbers speak for themselves. Oh I saw Thor last week and it was good but I didn't like it better than bb or im.

I'm not tripping, your boy what's his face is. Article and thread is all about Marvel and he starts the bs again between DC/Marvel. And If you paid attention you can see why I responded the way I did to him. Here's the deal, I don't pay mind to the international figures, the international figures are just icing on a cake, gravy on the potatoes. As I said in my response to him if you missed it "in my opinion" the national figures are more valuable than international. Truth be told I bet would rather have the national figure higher then international. It's an American character if you can't crack the piggy bank here then that's not good. The budget for the film is $150, if they predict $170 well damn...Thank the Lord Oh Mighty for international releases because if it wasn't for that then film would be considered a flop.

This isn't the NBA where NBA players care and want to be #1 in China as far as sales.

Marvel fans like Cross and yourself if it matters truly to you guys go right ahead. Thor out gross Bat and Supes internationally, I care nationally.

Don't hide when GL out grosses both Cap and Thor...And I care national, who gives a [frick] if the French went to see it lol

@ everybody Studios want money and they don't care if it is in euros or yens or dollars. If it makes money (and thor is) you will see a sequel. And as releasing Iron Man 2 and Thor and Fast Five overseas first shows, the international money is just as green as domestic these days.

I took my daughter to see it her 1st time and my 3rd- saw the movie the 1st two times in 3 d liked it better in 2d. ON facebook I had friends tell me that they liked the movie better than Ironman and I know they are not into comic book heroes like I am. MARVEL / DISNEY cares about money = worldwide $$
why else would they build theme parks and release movies overseas?!

RE: Thor, it's projected to be about 159 mil right now (Dom), so its allready almost 160 mil. To say it will top off at "170 mil" is really not realistic. Its still in the current top 5 movies right now, (behind, Hangover, Kung Fu Panda2, POTC:OST and Bridesmaids) and has only been out for about 4 weeks. Unless they pull it from everywhere right NOW (that won't happen), its gonna be around 170 by next weekend (or very, very close to it). Even with the other hot movies coming out (and there is a "hot" movie coming out each week for the next several weeks), the drop offs each week were not that staggering, for the most part its holding its own. If I HAD to make a guess, I would say 180-ish will be its final deal, but I would not be surprised if it goes up a tad more. With what its all going against this summer (Fast Five was a monster to kick the summer off), thats something to be proud of. Lets hope all the other comics movies do good as well as there are and will be TONS more of competition for your dollars.

No offence, but if I were superstitious, i would say you straigt up jinxed Green Lantern....Thor did indeed NOT tap out, and GL is tapping faster then Mr. Bojangles on crack.

I myself still liked GL and have no issue admitting that (NOWHERE near Thor though IMO), I will also get the GL DVD, but....WOW. That was not your best prediction by a long shot, dude.
