BOX OFFICE: THOR: RAGNAROK Defeats Stiff Competition To Stay At #1 For Second Weekend

The God of Thunder can't be stopped as Thor: Ragnarok has managed to defeat a number of big new releases to stay #1 at the North American box office this weekend. The Marvel Studios movie is expected to earn $61.3 million and that means it's finished way ahead of both Murder on the Orient Express ($28.1 million) and Daddy's Home 2 ($27.3 million) during its second weekend of release.

Thor: Ragnarok opened with $122.7 million last week, so a decline of 50% is considered well above the norm. Considering the fact Murder on the Orient Express boasts an all-star cast and Daddy's Home 2 is a sequel to a very popular comedy, the threequel is definitely exceeding expectations as of right now.

Earlier this week, we learned that projections are pointing to the Taika Waititi helmed release finishing its worldwide box office run with close to $900 million by the time all is said and done. That's a huge increase on past instalments of the Thor franchise and a good sign that we'll ultimately get
a fourth chapter. With Justice League set to be released next weekend, the movie will obviously slip to #2!

@ODanil - I think about $315-320M domestic, $510-520M overseas for $825-840M worldwide.

It's going to finish significantly above my prediction of 780m. Possibly in the low to mid 800 millions.

@MrDandy - I think next week we'll get a better picture when Justice League comes out. If JL came out 3 weeks after Thor, I'm sure 900M is doable.
