THOR Actor Chris Hemsworth Unsure About His Future In The MCU, But He Would Return Under One Condition

Chris Hemsworth's contract with Marvel officially ended with Avengers 4, but it sounds like the possibility to return to the MCU is still there. What would it take for the actor to return as Thor?

For seven years, Marvel fans have watched Chris Hemsworth bring to life the iconic God of Thunder on the big screen. But alas, all good things must come to an end, and Avengers 4 marks the end of Hemsworth's contract with Marvel. That means his future as Thor is officially over... for now, at least.

Appearing on Channel 7's Sunrise in Australia, Hemsworth was briefly asked about his future as Thor, and though it sounds like he may (temporarily) have set the hammer down, there remains a chance he could return.

"My contract's coming to an end, we've just finished the last two Avengers," the star told the network. "Who knows what the future holds."

"We felt like we reinvented the last one in a big way. It felt refreshed and reenergized," Hemsworth added, echoing what he told IGN earlier this year.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future as Thor, Hemsworth did leave open the possibility of a return to the MCU. "We might have a conversation if there's another great script that comes along. But at the moment that's it," he said.

While it's nothing official, the door seems to remain open, which is a better outlook than last month when Hemsworth told USA Today, "Contractually, right now — yeah, this is it. I’m done. I won’t be playing the character again."

Avengers: Infinity War will be released in the US on May 4, 2018, with Avengers 4 coming on May 3, 2019. Will that be the last time we see Chris Hemsworth as Thor?

And probably only if Taika directed too.

Me and my daughter really enjoyed Thor 3. For me some of the one liners were misplaced but that Thor fury was spectacular so I’d be happy to see a Thor 4 if it ever came to fruition.

They’ll be coughing up at least 20 mil for the “legacy” characters at this point.

@knocturnalzen10 - Ehh, not really. Chris has said he'd be interested in doing a 4th film with the right criteria; RDJ really has no interest in doing a 4th film.

@HeavyMetal4Life - you'd prefer thor4 compared to im4 ? and i thought rdj is still up for the idea didn't know he wasn't

@knocturnalzen10 - Oh I didn't realize you were talking about personal preferences. Honestly, I'd rather see a 4th Thor film with Waititi than a 4th Iron Man. Especially after how the last two Iron Man films turned out.

I haven't heard in a while that he was up for returning after Avengers 4. The only time I remember him talking about IM4 was after the third movie, when he was joking around that they were working on the 4th movie and he was thinking they should call it Iron Man 4. It was all a joke.

Regardless of preferences, unless Thor dies at the end of Avengers 4, its much more likely we'd get a Thor 4 than an IM 4.
