Voice of Soundwave Officially Cast in Transformers 2

Voice of Soundwave Officially Cast in Transformers 2

UGO Movie Blog is reporting that legendary voice actor Frank Welker has been officially cast in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as Soundwave. The news is from an interview with Roberto Orci as he was promoting Star Trek. Soundwave is a character Welker originated for all three seasons of the 1980s cartoons (or G1 cartoon as sometimes referred to) that ran from about 1984-1987.

This from TransformersLive blog...

Jordan Hoffman: Who’s voicing Soundwave in Transformers?
Roberto Orci: Welker.

Jordan Hoffman: That’s official?
Roberto Orci: I think so.

Jordan Hoffman: Uh oh.
Roberto Orci: Might be something I just told you for the first time, but I think so.

This is good news for Transformers disciples who have been trying to get our favorite voices cast in the movie.

I researched that this guy not only voiced one of our beloved Transformers but also participated in alot of video games and cartoons. I hope he does a good job in voicing soundwave.

Nice, but I still think I would have rather had him voice Megatron in the first one. Hugo was good, but I forgot it was him. Just seemed pointless...

Looks to me like they are trying to make up for the BIG mistake of not using him in the original Transformers film to voice Megatron. All fan boys know he voiced Megatron and Soundwave in the original animated series. We got Peter Cullen for Prime, why not Frank for Megatron? I heard Michael Bay's reasons for not using him and they never made any sense whatsoever. He sounded great as megatron in the game version of the movie and would have done great in the film. Hugo Weaving did a decent job in the movie, but I'd rather have all the original voice actors from the animated series. I wish they could do that for G.I.JOE resolute too. Steve Blum is Duke and Wolverine now??? Get that money Steve!

@ TheProgram Welker is a voice actor that did the oh so awesome voice of Soundwave in the original Gen1 cartoon. If you never saw it, Soundwave had the coolest voice of any Transformer ever. It's SO awesome that thay were able to get him.

I really hope that he sounds the same.

This is awesome. Soundwave has always been a favorite of mine. Welker voiced a number of transformers from the original series including Megatron/Galvatron, Soundwave, Skywarp, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, Ratbat, Mirage and Trailbreaker. I didn't mind Hugo taking over for Megatron, but for Soundwave Welker will be solid.

Why didnt Welker just voice Megatron in the first film? He only had a few lines at the end. I'm pretty sure Welker voiced Soundwave in the G1 cartoon. ROTF is shaping up nicely.

shibazz! No problem. Actually, you'll be happy to know that a Deathlok movie is in the works. I know a script was written and they're currently looking for a director. It definitely has potential to be a kick ass film. One problem it might face though is a reboot of Robocop which could be right around the corner. Hopefully Deathlok would come out first so people don't have to deal with two cyborg movies.

I have officially buckled and set up an account because I've seen this "debate" rage on since before the first movie ever came out and I wonder why no one's ever taken the stance that Megatron's voice was annoying as hell in the cartoons. Imagine the movie version of Megatron, now imagine him talking in that high pitched, whiney voice from the cartoon and tell me it wouldn't seem ridiculous. Hugo Weaving's voice is monstrous and evil which goes perfectly w/ the movie version of Megatron as he does look like a mechanical monster... w/ sharp teeth and all... I mean really, what purpose do the teeth serve? Is he eating undercooked bison or something?

@Mr Josh.. Did you watch the extras on the first film? Because you just told us every reason why Bay said he decided to use Hugo over Frank.

@TheProgram.. Who is Dance Cook? Im guessing you meant Dane Cook. He isnt on the cast list on IMDB. Where are you seeing that?

Has anyone noticed that T4 is looking alot like a Transformer movie.

I agree that he should have been Megatron in the 1st. Hugo did a good job, the problem is that he has a good voice but it didn't sound like him at all! It's like they wanted to make him sound like Welker. Why do that when you can just get the real deal?

Deathlok- If you mean Frank voiced Galvatron in the T.V. series then probably, but I know it was Leonard Nimoy for the movie.

Still its great to get back another original.

Nice!!! But what would be nicer is if we had a GI JOE or two in it! Same Universe, now that would be sweet!!! Even if it was a few seconds cameos! ; )

"Who's Frank Welker?"

*Dies*

He also plays Fred in Scooby Doo ;)

Frank Welker is a voice acting GOD! Easily one of the best. He's been in everything from Transformers to Futurama. Much of the time he does beast effects (Just as Bronx from Gargoyles), but every now and then that unique voice of his gets to come through and it is astounding every time.

To the program: Frank Welker was the voice of Megatron & Soundwave on the 80's animated series.

redrum010 - Yeah, Welker took over for Galvatron's voice after the animated movie. I thought it was pretty terrible compared to Nimoy's. I think it would be great if they brought Nimoy back to do a voice in the Transformers movies, which is quite possible since he's married to Michael Bay's cousin. Maybe he could do the voice of Unicron. What irony!
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 4/28/2009, 7:15 PM
I posted an article a while back where Bay said he was afraid to ask Nimoy to do the movie. I really hope Nimoy comes back for Unicron, he was up for it in the original but it went to the late Orson Wells, which was a very good choice.

I miss actors like Well's, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne, Cary Grant, Henry Fonda.

>SNIFF,SNIFF< Excuse me for a minute, I just miss the Truman years.
