Oliver (Stephen Amell) heads to the courthouse to get his death certificate repealed and is pleasantly surprised to run into Laurel (Katie Cassidy), who is there prosecuting Martin Somers (guest star Ty Olsson), a criminal with ties to the Chinese Triad. Oliver recognizes Martin’s name from his father’s book and sets his sights on taking him down. Martin orders the Triad to "take care of" Laurel so they send their top mercenary – China White (Hu) – after her, an act that culminates in a battle between Arrow and China White. Meanwhile, Moira (Susanna Thompson) and Walter (guest star Colin Salmon) ask Oliver to take over the company. Colin Donnell, Willa Holland, David Ramsey and Paul Blackthorne also star. David Barrett directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Marc Guggenheim and written by Andrew Kreisberg & Marc Guggenheim.

It was ok. Embarrassingly, I missed the first 10 minutes trying to program my tv and flipping through to find CW... so I got in right before Ollie killed his kidnappers.

I think it's really trying to emulate Batman Begins. The characters are kind of generic and unlikeable so far - I mean apart from Ollie himself, I'd completely misplace everyone else... that's how little an impression they left.

Hope it gets good. I don't watch tv, so this was kind of a big deal for me.

well that sucks, was kinda hoping that WB would some day do a Batman tv series, but it would be too much like Arrow. Which is AWESOME! Love the violence, the action, and the acting. Have never been a Green Arrow fan, but will be very quick.

I just don't like these moving fight scenes. They move the camera all over while they fight and you can't see all the good moves. The end fight with Arrow and Darren Shahlavi (I believe) was good but with no camera movement would have been better.

This was Defiently a good pilot and seems to be a good show, I like the tone and action a lot so far. Very BB esque, it would've been so much better if it were on HBO of SHOtime or something though honestly.

I really liked it. I'm glad to see Ollie getting some much needed love, maybe this show can help me forget the train wreck that is the Green Arrow Comic at the moment.. God that book needs love so bad.

Eh, it was mediocre at best. Expectations were low to begin with and then it managed to be even worse. The acting was horrific: Amell can't act for shit, he basically had the same monotone voice for EVERY scene. The dude sounded bored too death. Ollie's friend (can't be bothered to recall the name) who is the designated comic relief had the lamest jokes and was annoying. Laurel was boring too... actually, all the characters were. The dramatic scenes were too dramatic, I almost laughed when Ollie's mom found him sleeping on the floor as a storm brewed through a window that was for some reason open and blowing their hair everywhere, it was ridiculous. Overall, not completely terrible but not good either. I'll give it another chance but so far it looks like a cancellation.

Looks like the producers of this show planted some fake users here to counter the negative sentiment for it. Because, I see no other reason for anyone to claim that they liked this.

Yeah. Just like I read the Hunger Games book and watched the movie, to be certain beyond a shadow of doubt that it sucks. I watched this too. And boy, what I saw was nothing short of mediocrity at its worst.

The BAD-
The characters are either one-note or have no personality. The main actor can't act, with only two modes: scowling and blank-face. You never feel for any of these characters: eg. you never feel the angst/suffering of Oliver and how he's all messed up (yeah, they are going to show the island backstory later, but there has to be enough meat in the first episode to hook me. There wasn't any here). And as a result of all these flaws in character-work, you never really get into any of their relationships of one another either. The story and execution of events was clearly 'inspired' by Batman Begins, as we all suspected. Right down to the overhead shots of the city for transitions -of course, poorly executed with minimal effect. The sets looked cheap, especially the house that Queen lives in (btw, the house itself doesn't convincingly pull off 'billionare residence' at all --of course). The twist at the end was lame. The backstory/character details are expressed in the clunkiest manner possible. Speaking of which, nearly the episode failed countless times in the "show, don't tell" department. And lastly, Oliver and his sister have more sexual energy between them than Oliver and the heroine. Ick.

The MEH:
Soundtrack's not even worth mentioning. The camera work is nothing worth mentioning. The cinematography is TV level. You never feel like you're watching an engaging tale about a billionaire turned vigilante. Fails to deliver excitement, so you never feel like you need to muster any from your own side.

The GOOD:
The action from Oliver Queen is pretty good. He is agile and moves in a fluid manner while doing all these high flying flippity-floppety stunts. So yeah, the actor doesn't offer much in the acting or personality department, but does pretty well in physicality. Speaking of which...

The MISC:
*You can tell that the main reason Oliver doesn't have the goatee is because they want him to look as 'hot' as possible for the ladies, as evidenced by the camera work when he's showing off his body. Yeah, this one was obvious from the beginning, but now it is confirmed.
*He looks remarkably like Henry Cavill in the photograph stuck on his computer, the scene right after he tells the police guy about the Green Hood man for the first time.

---

Overall, Not as horrible as I thought, but mediocre at the very best. I'm glad I had the foresight to torrent this instead of contributing to their ratings.

-And you too people, I beg you to either torrent this or stream online if you absolutely need to watch this out of curiosity. Because watching it will only fill you with a strong sense of "I have just wasted my time", and give them views that they need to continue going.

Great action. Why does China Whie look like a stripper and not an assasin? There's no need for the white hair. Since she's china white leyts give her white hair. Eww. The first episode was good. This wig scares me. Hope this show doesnt fall. It has a ligjht tv budget so that's unfortunate. When smallville started it had a different feel.It felt bigger. @DarkKnight23 yea Smallville what a bad decade long emmy winning cult following, greeatest tv comic book adaption show. It was really bad yea. Stop hating. When Smallville began, it was awesome. Everyone loved it. It was a family show and action adventure. It had its rough years( partially season 6, all of seasons 7 and 8) but it rebounded. seasons 1-5 were great. 10 years come on man.

@lokibane- dude. Seriously. Get over yourself. Lol this was 1 episode and a pilot at that. You think they're really gonna flesh out every relationship and explain the tragedy if his whole backstory in 1 episode? They'd have nothing left for the rest of the season! They set up the to e and feel for the show while introducing characters and plot points. And they did a dang good job doing it. Sorry but it really feels like your feeling high and mighty judging this 44min pilot like its a 2 1/2 hour movie. It was a great intro and exactly what you can expect from a small screen debut on the CW.

I am really looking forward to watching the rest of this!

Having never gotten too into Green Arrow, I have to say it is a pretty good show. I only wish that it had been paced a little slower. I would've liked to see more of Oliver's time on the island. I also would've liked to see him develop his gear longer too. I do have questions too, one being...

Is that bow he used on the island in the Chinese trunk really the one he is using now? (Old one was hand made in comics) If so, how did he acquire it?

But all in all good show, will continue to watch

@lokibane2012
Well to start, Ollie didn't have the goatee. I get your points there, it is absent simply for aesthetics, but there's something else. Let's just say, if Batman had a goatee, it'd be very easy to tie him to Bruce Wayne.

I think you're being a little harsh. We WANT this show to be good, to improve, to grow... picking every little thing apart is a bit counterproductive. I get that you're honest, as am I - I wasn't really impressed with anything besides what you described - but it does have the potential to be better. Ollie deserves some love.
