When Ruby Rose decided to leave Batwoman after its first season, it left the series with a unique dilemma. While the character was eventually recast, The CW chose to find a new lead with Javicia Leslie playing a newly created hero called Ryan Wilder. It was a bold decision on the network's part, but one that divided fans and led to a steady decrease in ratings over the next two seasons.

Ultimately, the show was cancelled and season 4 won't be happening. Leslie shared her disappointment over that decision during a recent interview with Digital Spy while revealing what she would have liked to see in a new batch of episodes had The CW not chosen to pull the plug.

"Obviously, the fans would love to see more Wildmoore, which is Sophie and Ryan. I think Meagan and I would also love to continue to play that love story. We'd love to see Mary and Luke maybe spark something," Leslie said of her dashed hopes. "What we were blessed with was the ability to create a beautiful finale that, whether we came back or not, is very satisfying for all of us."

The actor also shared her take on the sort of cultural impact Batwoman had during its latest two seasons. "The cultural movement that came after Black Panther; what that movie showed was how there is a space for Black superheroes and Black comics. And so coming on the heels of that as Batwoman, we also showed that there's a space for it in TV. There's a space for it to exist once a week, every week, and there's a community for it. That community doesn't all look like Ryan."

Leslie added that Batwoman presented the chance to show "the higher-ups - the bigwigs - that there is a space for Black superheroes. There's a space for women superheroes. There's a space for gay superheroes. There's a space for all of us. And let's continue to show that diversity."

We don't anticipate The CW stepping in to "save" Batgirl, and with no more Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash nearing its end, it's hard to say where this Caped Crusader could appear in future. Gotham Knights is set to take place in its own world so there won't even be room for Batwoman there.

Are you disappointed that Batwoman has ended after just three seasons?

@OptimusCrime - She don't have a clue..

If anything I'd say Black Lightening did more for the culture. For a CW show it didn't do too bad. In seasons 1 and 2 at least. That also had women superheroes who were gay and black..

@OptimusCrime - I think she meant to saw Batwoman did for TV what Halle Berry's Catwoman did for movies....which is sink it.

And the award for the most spot-on comment of 2022 goes to...

Not Javicia Leslie.

@UXASIS - you clearly only read the headline which is wrong.

@WruceBayne

Yeah, my bad.

Sometimes I don´t see the need to read the article when "everything" is in the headline. Which here proved to be wrong.

She doesn't say that. Pretty cruel headline tbh because it will invite people to hate on her.

@TheManWithoutFear - yeap. She basically said the show walked on BP's steps.

Not an honest headline.

@TheManWithoutFear - it’s funny you mention that because I read the headline and my eyes popped open and then I skimmed over it and went straight to the comments, I am the target demographic for this article. In fact I would say that this article did for articles what black panther did for movies, and you can quote me on that.

@TheManWithoutFear - Dishonest headline on a Wildling article? Why, he would never!

Meh. Alice as a an antagonist was more interesting than either Batwoman, which is why the show was hard to care remotely about.

Wow, that headline.

Use your noodle, Josh. She clearly says Batwoman is part of the "cultural movement" started by Black Panther and that it demonstrated "a space for Black superheroes and Black comics." She never suggested the show was on the same level.

I do like to believe that she did succeed showing the higher-up the space is there, and that the show was cancelled just because it was bad. The original article didn't read that way anyway. Love it when quotes are thrown into different contexts

I usually try to stay away from knocking the writers on here for bad headlines, but this time, well damn, talk about misleading.

Gotta get them clicks. Lol. Let's not start a petty comment war just to get a few clicks, kbud?

I get it, the main articles that get big engagement here are the ones that feature race, sexuality, gender, and other politics. That's kinda where we are now unfortunately, but try not to twist her words. It's getting too unnecessarily tense out there.
