DC Universe On Its Last Legs As DC's Jim Lee Confirms Original Shows Will Move To HBO Max

Following major layoffs earlier this week and reports of the DC Universe possibly being on its last legs, DC Comics publisher and CCO Jim Lee has confirmed all original shows will be moving to HBO Max.

After a shocking series of layoffs earlier this week, which left a third of the DC Comics' editorial staff and a vast majority of the DC Universe staff without a job, new details have emerged from publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee regarding the future of the seemingly doomed streaming service.

In a lengthy new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lee confirmed that all original content from the DC Universe will indeed be moving to the recently launched HBO Max at some point before the end of the year. This would presumably include the third season of Titans, the fourth season of Young Justice, and the next respective seasons of Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn, granted of course that both are renewed for follow-up outings.

It was previously announced that Stargirl would be moving to The CW exclusively for its second season while Swamp Thing remains canceled.

With the move, HBO Max will further bolster its already impressive upcoming lineup of original DC programming, which will include the likes of Green LanternJustice League Dark, DC Super Hero High, Strange Adventures, and an untitled live-action GCPD series set in the world of Matt Reeves' The Batman.

As for the rest of the DC Universe, it appears as though it will remain active in some capacity with its backlist catalog of nearly 25,000 different comic titles, but details are currently murky at best with Lee promising to divulge more at a later date.

@regularmovieguy - Yeah would be cool to see more adventures in that universe, at least every other year in a movie, maybe fill in more of the gaps between shows. Like between Batman The Animted Series and Batman Beyond. between Superman The Animated seires and Justice league

@solskulldeath - Dini and Burnett are expanding the lore with Batman: The Adventures Continue. It's really good.

It'd be sweet if it gets adapted for animation like Mad Love did.

Fold it all into HBO MAX.
The digital comics could be one of the hubs in it.
For those that do not have the channel there is a DC,
TCM, HBO, Cartoon Network, etc hub.
Just make an extra one for DC comics.
More bang for the buck.
Win/win!

@madhombre - The comics part could be its own sub imo. Idk what the selection was like on the DC app (as it wasn't available in my country), but an app that would have all DC comics would be great.

@madhombre - They could transfer the comics over, but they would lose a massive and very well-designed community for DC fans to interact with each-other and discuss the content. DC Universe also has had a lot of awesome creator Q&As between the members and some fantastic writers and artists.

@JoshuaDBr - Not many fans will pay for DCU to “interact with each other” AND also pay for HBO MAX.
If AT&T wants everything to be under one umbrella ( which is the smart thing to do) than just close DCU and move the comics to the hub.
Fans can interact in places like..this.

@madhombre - While folding it all together may be the most prudent decision for WB, DC Universe really did accomplish what it claimed: "the ultimate fan subscription." As a DC fan, I'd like to see it continue in some form, even if I'm hoping against the odds.

Recently started watching Harley Quinn series. Some of the voices don’t match the characters, in my opinion, but I’m thoroughly enjoying the show. Kaley has been a delight but Lake Bell has been the biggest stand out to me. I love her ivy

Wonder why CW got Star Girl, like its for sure the second best show on DC Universe. Not counting Swamp Thing, since that was cancelled

But his art! If Roman Polanski can continue to make movies than Snyder should honor D'Elia's creative honor and put out the movie he originally intended to make and not some compromised vision.

On another topic:

The current artist for the Suicide has given the perfect modernization of Harley Quinn's costume

Seriously this is a suit I could see appealing to everyone
it resembles the jester costume a good amount
it would look good in live action
she looks bad ass
also you can get people to stop complaining about the male gaze thing, considering she is covered up.(could have avoided that complaint by keeping the jester look, which fans would have wanted anyway)
