KRYPTON Has Found Its Lobo! Irish Actor Emmett J. Scanlan Will Play The Main Man In Season 2

As previously reported, the second season of SyFy's Krypton is set to introduce a small-screen take on Lobo as its big bad, and word has now come in that actor Emmett J. Scanlan has been cast in the role.

We found out at SDCC that Krypton would be introducing Lobo as its main villain for season 2, and now we know who'll be bringing "Da Main Man" to live-action life on the small screen for the first time.

According to THR, Irish actor Emmett J. Scanlan will portray "the ruthless bounty hunter who murdered his entire species."

This take on the popular DC Comics character is described as "a genius-level intellect when it comes to matters of warfare and is a deadly adversary. He has superhuman strength and is virtually immortal. Lobo's word is the only thing he hold sacred and although he'll never violate the letter of an agreement, he might disregard its spirit from time to time."

Despite Lobo making his live-action debut on Krypton, this report also confirms that Warner Bros. still has big-screen plans for the character, possibly with Michael Bay at the helm.

Scanlan has mostly worked on TV (In the Flesh, Constantine, The Fall) but he also had a small role in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Ok, fine. But why an Irishman? I've always pictured Lobo to be sort of a Space-Mexican.

After that first season, I trust this show 100%.

@rabid - I only watched the first couple of episodes. Does it actually become watchable? It was WAY too SyFy in its production values...good sets and effects but laughable acting. Also, that is NOT Adam Strange, that is a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court.

@GAThrawnIGF - I always thought Adam Strange was based on the Connecticut Yankee.

@GAThrawnIGF - Krypton had boring spells, but I thought it was excellent all the way through.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I think a Spectre movie could do really well. WB is focusing too much on the spandex action heroes when they have some great supernatural and horror properties. Deadman, Xanadu, Papa Midnight, Sandman, Dr Fate.

@rabid - no confidence at this point that WB can properly do the DC characters justice on film. TV is where its at for DC.

@HeavyMetal4Life - They failed with Suicide Squad and Justice League, but I've loved everything else they've ever done. I think the last two missteps were from choosing the wrong directors. DC should stay clear of the lighthearted comedy. They excel with the darker stuff.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 10/3/2018, 12:06 PM
@rabid - that's an incorrect approach. They should handle each character with the correct tone. Superman films shouldn't' be overtly negative. Batman films should not be light and campy. You craft your films based on the source material and what is required for the character. WB has failed with the darker stuff since 2012.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I agree. But if we look at the best selling and most popular Superman stories, it's the ones where he's weakened or where the boy scout image is perverted. Death of Superman, Injustice, Dark Knight Returns, Red Son, Whatever Happened To the Man of Tomorrow. I think WB was just trying to appeal to people's favorite stories. IMO, the general audience is over the classic Donner version, and they need to do a movie with no Lex, no Lois, no Jimmy, no Metropolis. Maybe get his ass to Warworld or back to Krypton.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 10/3/2018, 12:20 PM
@rabid - Problem is, WB doesn't realize that you can (and should) have a positive Superman in a dark story (i.e. the titles you mentioned). WB approach is to make everything dark, and the audience has shown that they are not interested. If they were, then we wouldn't be where we are right now with Superman in the DCEU. There has been nothing in the last 6 years to instill any confidence from WB/DC in how they handle their comic characters, and there is no reason to believe that this will change anytime soon. As I said, TV is where its at for DC.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Except for Berlanti's GL, I never had any issue with WB's movies until Ayers and Whedon joined up. Neither of them really suits DC storytelling. But all the other Nolan and Snyder, Goyer and Johns stuff has been excellent.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 10/3/2018, 12:28 PM
@rabid - I'm glad you have enjoyed the Snyder, Goyer and Johns films. But a majority of the comic fans and, more importantly, a majority of the public has not. And this majority does not use the word excellent when describing the DCEU. If you cannot see that there are inherent, massive issues with the DCEU films and how these characters are portrayed and handled, then I hate to break it to you but you're just being willfully blind.

rabid - 10/3/2018, 12:41 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - Meh. The general audience seems to enjoy them fine. It's just the ever-increasingly-critical fansites that manufacture the hate. I don't play favorites with the film companies and see WB and Marvel on pretty even footing with an equal number of goofs. Even the crappy Justice League turned a profit. That guarantees the train will keep chugging along.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 10/3/2018, 12:51 PM
@rabid - If the general audiences enjoyed the films, and if the public and critics had favorably responded to each film, then there would not be the level of never-ending dysfunction, chaos, and behind the scenes drama. The films would also be doing much better. And I really wouldn't be touting the profit of Justice League. A failure is a failure. If you want to put WB on even footing with someone, Sony and Fox say hi.

So as I said, TV is where its at for DC.

The main villain of Season 2? Hmm.

He looks the part. But I think they are tweaking his character a bit by saying he has genius level intellect to warfare.

We'll see.

@Menks123 - But to be fair, Michael Bay is one of the only directors perfect for a Lobo movie. Lobo is a dumbass, all he knows how to do is swear, drink, f__k women, and blow shit up. I'd rather see a movie about the 3 Jokers plotline from Rebirth than anything involving Lobo. Hell, you can't spell lobotomy without Lobo.
