After a season-long buildup, tonight's episode featured quite the origin story as we learned a whole lot more about the Red Daughter (Melissa Benoist) and also learned that Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) had been the true mastermind behind all of Kara's (Melissa Benoist) troubles this year, which was just the twist to kickstart this final third of season four.

Now, next week, it appears Kara's focus will shift to finding a way to take down Eve (Andrea Books), who seems to hold all of Lex's deepest and darkest secrets. However, things will take a turn for the worst when the Red Daughter attacks the White House and turns Supergirl into Public Enemy #1,

"All About Eve" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV)

SUPERGIRL FACES HER BIGGEST CHALLENGE YET - Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) must deal with the destructive aftermath of Lex's (guest star Jon Cryer) nefarious plans. Shocked at what Lex has created, Supergirl faces her biggest challenge yet. Ben Bray directed the episode with story by Gabriel Llanas and teleplay by Katie Rose Rogers & Brooke Pohl (#417). Original airdate 3/31/2019.

Season three saw Supergirl stop Reign and the other Worldkillers’ threat to humanity and our planet, and in the process, Kara was shocked to find her mother Alura alive and living in a salvaged Argo City that survived the destruction of Krypton. Reconnecting with her past caused Kara to realize that her true home is now here on Earth, where big changes are taking place for her and all of her friends in National City – and also, it appears, for a doppelganger in Russia! Season four promises to be full of surprises, action, adventure and lots of big revelations for Supergirl, Alex, James, J’onn, Lena and Brainy.

Supergirl features:
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl
Mehcad Brooks as James 'Jimmy' Olsen/Guardian
Chyler Leigh as Alexandra 'Alex' Danvers
Jeremy Jordan as Winslow 'Winn' Schott
David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter
Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor
Jesse Rath as Querl Dox/Brainiac 5
Sam Witwer as Ben Lockwood/Agent Liberty
Nicole Maines as Nia Nal/Dreamer
April Parker Jones as Colonel Haley
David Ajala as Manchester Black
Azie Tesfai as Kelly Olsen
Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El
Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor

Maybe the best episode of the entire season, I'm not sure. But it was really good.

Goddamn, John Cryer just freaking kills it as Lex. Too many AWESOME Lex moments with him to list. And he wore the motherfreaking Lexo Suit, twice!!! I was so happy, so very happy. They did a really great job giving us the 'origin' of Cryer's Lex and showing what he has been up to behind the scenes this entire time. As predicted, he has been the hidden puppet master guiding Agent Liberty. His plan, his nefarious machinations, etc., they were all extremely well done and thought out, so major kudos to the writers.

This was also a great origin episode for Red Daughter, and Benoist did a great job with her. Again, kudos to the writers here. They really fleshed out this character and helped us understand her mindset, especially how she views Supergirl and came to understand the world around her. And RD's relationship with Lex was extremely well done, liked seeing her 'grow' with him.

All in all, great episode. Looking forward to next week and seeing how the Agent Liberty, Supergirl and Red Daughter storyline come to a head down the road. The show has really struck gold here with Cryer's Lex, hopefully season 4 is just the beginning of his adventures.

This has been a really good season. It stumbled a bit after the really strong first eight episodes, taking several episodes to get back on track, giving us a few fine to pretty good episodes before knocking it out of the freaking park with these past two Lex centric ones.

As of now, my ranking of the current DC/CW seasons:

1. Arrow (pretty good/really good)
2. Supergirl (pretty good)
3. Legends of Tomorrow (good)
4. Black Lightning (mediocre)
5. Flash (mediocre)

Jon Cryer is killing it with his Lex Luthor. It really tells me the CW needs to merge Earth 38 with Earth 1 ASAP.

Love how the scope and scale of Supergirl are global. The Flash is still stuck saving Central City and could really
use a bigger canvas. I would love to see Henry Well going up against Lex Luthor or Reverse Flash joining forces
with Lex.

And BTW CW would be insane not to give Cryer's Luthor a central role in the upcoming Crisis.

OT a bit: Zack just had that BvS panel thing he was gonna have. It seems no one asked about the Snyder Cut and I find it kinda funny if true.

Jon Cryer is actually doing a great job, can't wait to watch the new episode today.

Off-topic: Did anyone watch TWD? I stopped watching it sometime ago but tonight I couldn't stop myself, and HOLY [FRICK]ING SHIT

I suppose the only "let down" of this episode for me was that we didn't get flashbacks about all the stuff that went down since the start of the show when Lex was in prison because the summary made it see that we would, kinda like with Lockwood's episode but this one just focused on his trial and pretty much key points of Season 4. But it was still a nice background resume of the plot.

Those Kryptonian symbols Lex was writing down in that piece of paper while Jimmy and Lena testified against him are or could be a hint of of the next plot for Season 5, unless they're addressed before S4 ends.

Lex smile after he poisoned the entire jury and judge as part of "make it thirty-two" sentence as Frank Sinatra's "My Way" played was perfect and so evil. Jon Cryer is great in the role.

Eve was always a fanatic of Lex then and Otis always worked for him just like his sister did. Otis mentioned later in the episode that he died once, a clear reference to when the Helmagrite killed him and Mercy, so how's he back? Was it thanks to Cadmus cloning?

So Eve jumped in the right moment in S2 as Lex's eyes and ears in Catco. Maybe it was from her then that, somehow, from where he figured out Supergirl's identity? Speaking of identities Red Daughter calling herself "Linda Lee" is a nod to another Supergirl alias from the comics.

Red Daughter's origin was sufficient and I liked how they played around with her only memory she had of the name "Alex" to be linked with none other than Lex to build up their relationship. Someone said on Twitter that he is sort of like her "anti-Jor-El".

Funny how she liked Oreos, just like Martian Manhunter.

If Lex had never been involved with Kasnia's project on her than she'd be as good as Kara, but it died when little Mikhail "perished". TBH I thought the entire argument between them after her raging episode was also within his plan but seems it was for real because he couldn't make her back then to focus on "her spoiled sister" aka Supergirl and the USA.

He gave himself cancer to reach out to Lena just around the time she pushed Jimmy away to start working with Lex who I bet was also around moving the strings at the DEO to make Haley approach her to work with them, all to later give Red Daughter the blood transfusion to restore her health and strength. Classic Lex, plus he has some powers now.

Wonder what is that letter for that Eve left to Lena for when she wakes up.

Apparently Otis left that kid, Mikhail, on USA? If so it'll be interesting to see if Red Daughter accidentally meets with him again.

His conditioning of her to make her Kaznia's weapon seems complete by the end if they are ready for a strike on USA, but making her pose as Supergirl to make her public enemy is odd for now, but still effective.
