SUPERGIRL: Kara's In Bad Shape In The New Promo For Season 4, Episode 3: "Man Of Steel"

Next week, with Kara (Melissa Benoist) in critical condition and fighting to survive, get ready to delve deep into the untold origin story of this season's nasty big bad, Agent Liberty (Sam Witwer).

Since the actual Man of Steel (Tyler Hoechlin) isn't expected to make an appearance next week, it appears that the episode title instead refers to this season's primary antagonist, Agent Liberty (Sam Witwer), who we'll be learning a whole lot more about when the series pays a lengthy visit back to his past.

While details remain somewhat under wraps, the synopsis does seemingly tease a fairly straightforward origin story that will reveal exactly how Ben Lockwood's father (Xander Berkeley) played a part in turning his son, a mild-mannered college professor, into the radical alien-hating terrorist that's been causing Kara (Melissa Benoist) so much trouble.

"Man of Steel" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, V) (HDTV)

XANDER BERKELEY GUEST STARS IN THE ORIGIN STORY OF AGENT LIBERTY - Ben Lockwood (Sam Witwer) didn't always hate aliens. Through a series of incidents, and input from his anti-alien father (guest star Xander Berkeley), Ben slowly transforms from a mild-mannered professor into the villainous Agent Liberty of today. Jesse Warn directed the episode written by Rob Wright & Derek Simon (#403). Original airdate 10/28/2018

Season three saw Supergirl stop Reign and the other Worldkillers’ threat to humanity and our planet, and in the process, Kara was shocked to find her mother Alura alive and living in a salvaged Argo City that survived the destruction of Krypton. Reconnecting with her past caused Kara to realize that her true home is now here on Earth, where big changes are taking place for her and all of her friends in National City – and also, it appears, for a doppelganger in Russia! Season four promises to be full of surprises, action, adventure and lots of big revelations for Supergirl, Alex, James, J’onn, Lena and Brainy.

Supergirl features:
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl
Mehcad Brooks as James 'Jimmy' Olsen/Guardian
Chyler Leigh as Alexandra 'Alex' Danvers
Jeremy Jordan as Winslow 'Winn' Schott
David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter
Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor
Jesse Rath as Querl Dox/Brainiac 5
Sam Witwer as Agent Liberty
Nicole Maines as Nia Nal/Dreamer
April Parker Jones as Colonel Haley
David Ajala as Manchester Black
Rhona Mitra as Mercy Graves
Robert Baker as Otis Graves
Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El

Good episode, tbh I think the only part I really didn't like or fully bought was how Jensen just let himself be that easily manipulated by the Graves siblings in the end, it felt too lazy written tbh. We don't know him well enough yet to know his POV on the whole debacle of the President Marsdin' self-impeachment and whether he felt betrayed or not by the reveal of her true nature. The talk with the Graves hinted at that and him saying he made an oath to Alex made sense so to suddenly shift from the good guys to the bad guys was undeveloped, specially how he was looking at Brainiac 5 in anger.

Liked the talk between Nia and Jimmy, I understood the POV of both. The showrunners have said Jimmy's situation with the Sons of Liberty will just heat up moving forward so I think that is gonna put him in a more tighter spot than before. If they keep Lois around after Elseworlds the two could work together to win back the public opinion in favour of both sides and not the ignorant ones.

Also the biggest OH SHIET moment for me in the episode was when J'onn got inside the house of his friend and saw those pictures of her wedding invitations because I was able to recognize the actor that plays her fiancé and he is Manchester Black in the show. This alienphobe of Agent Liberty just killed Manchester Black's fiancé. Looking forward now more than ever to his intro in 2 weeks in episode 4 and what he does now along with J'onn.

Alex's joke about the special guest badge J'onn was wearing was funny. And Brainy mumbling about how he missed him and his leadership in front of Alex, not even Winn would mess like that haha.

They are already laying ground for a relationship for him and Nia and also hinting at her roots as the ancestor of Nura Nal from the future, those scenes with Brainiac 5 were not coincidental, he is aware of something about her but can't place his finger on it yet. And even though she saved him earlier I liked how he swiftly avoided the bat, it looked cool. Kinda feel like he could've taken them on.

His final scene with Alex was touching too. It also makes me wanna see someday a Legion of Super Heroes spin off, he doesn't face any animosity in the society of the future with the rest so, crossing fingers as always.

That scene of her sleeping too and dreaming was a tease of her powers I bet.

I feel that at some point that new version of the Lexosuit is gonna be put in action, but I liked what I saw so far. Lena's first action sequence wasn't so bad.

They have to keep Mercy around to see her alongside with Lex and if they are still like Lena described them: confidantes.

And I like how Agent Liberty has a lot of body language despite the mask he wears. I hope his origin next week delivers. Kara now knows how Mon-El must've felt two Seasons ago. :P

This episode made me realize that i don't really want to see a Superman tv show handled by these guys.
They DID manage to write a really good Clark Kent and i liked pretty much everything he did as Superman, but to carry a whole show would be quite different.

This was a fairly strong episode. It lacked the normal drama that weighs down Supergirl episodes. Much better than the premiere, the showdown at LCorp was pretty good too. Like how Kara had to get creative in defeating the mercenaries.

The big issue with the episode was Jensen getting manipulated that easily, which was pretty lazy and poor writing. It would have just made better sense for him to be an undercover agent working for Agent Liberty.

But otherwise it was a strong episode. Final scene with Agent Liberty was good.

Actually really liked this episode and this season has been a lot better so far.

I really think they're gonna bring in Lex to run for presidency. Seems like the perfect opportunity to.

Good episode, the only parts I didn't really care for were the sudden change of loyalty from Jensen, and the shoehorned in obligatory LGBT statement. How many people would seriously sit down with their brand new boss and go "You may not know this about me, but I'm a transgender woman." Hell, there are things my bosses don't know about me and I've been with the company for 5 years. It's called your private life for a reason. Unless someone is your partner, they don't really need to know anything about your private life. Also, being transgender is a completely different rationale than hate crimes against people of another planet so she didn't even have a solid argument.

And here's my issue...is she from the Legion or not. She's supposed to be a hero and a distant relative of Dream Girl, but if that was true, she wouldn't need to hide her identity from Supergirl and especially Brainiac-5. And I don't want another amnesiac character in the Arrowverse.

And they seriously need to tone down the social commentary...or at least make it more subtle and nuanced. The whole reason people jumped ship in the 70s was because the DC writers were shoving commentary down our throats, and they think it's a good idea to do it again?
