With Supergirl sidelined, Dreamer (Nicole Maines) is picking up the slack next week to help keep National City safe, but things are going to get exceedingly difficult when she finds herself on a collision course with Agent Liberty (Sam Witwer), who is hellbent on taking down the Superfriends.

Meanwhile, Kara (Melissa Benoist) will continue trying to clear her name and James (Mehcad Brooks) will take drastic measures to relieve his PTSD, which doesn't sound like it's going to end particularly well.

"American Dreamer" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, V) (HDTV)

DAVID HAREWOOD DIRECTS - As Kara (Melissa Benoist) doggedly works as a reporter to clear Supergirl's name, Dreamer (Nicole Maines) picks up the slack as National City's protector, which leads to a showdown with Ben Lockwood (Sam Witwer). James (Mehcad Brooks) takes drastic measures to relieve his PTSD. David Harewood directed the episode with story by Dana Horgan and teleplay by Daniel Beaty & Jess Kardos (#419). Original airdate 4/28/2019.

Season three saw Supergirl stop Reign and the other Worldkillers’ threat to humanity and our planet, and in the process, Kara was shocked to find her mother Alura alive and living in a salvaged Argo City that survived the destruction of Krypton. Reconnecting with her past caused Kara to realize that her true home is now here on Earth, where big changes are taking place for her and all of her friends in National City – and also, it appears, for a doppelganger in Russia! Season four promises to be full of surprises, action, adventure and lots of big revelations for Supergirl, Alex, James, J’onn, Lena and Brainy.

Supergirl features:
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl
Mehcad Brooks as James 'Jimmy' Olsen/Guardian
Chyler Leigh as Alexandra 'Alex' Danvers
Jeremy Jordan as Winslow 'Winn' Schott
David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter
Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor
Jesse Rath as Querl Dox/Brainiac 5
Sam Witwer as Ben Lockwood/Agent Liberty
Nicole Maines as Nia Nal/Dreamer
April Parker Jones as Colonel Haley
David Ajala as Manchester Black
Azie Tesfai as Kelly Olsen
Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El
Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor

Good episode tonight, though it was fairly strong, well written and well choreographed. It was nice to see it focusing so much on the aftermath of Supergirl now being labeled public enemy number 1. Also, i loved that Brainy channeled his inner Ethan Hunt!!

I've said this before--with Supergirl being threatened and framed, Dreamer picking up the slack, and Guardian effectively out of action, there should be a new mask in town that acts as a strong counterpoint to Lockwood/Agent Liberty, but hits the same symbolic notes as the goon in the golden mask. And there's a lot of DC characters in the backlog that can fit the bill--Mr. or Ms. America, the Vigilante (cowboy version), or probably the best, DC's Captain America riff General Glory.

Good episode to return, it was nicely paced and balanced.

Lena is still keeping secrets and I knew Lex also knew about the death of her first failed test subject. Considering the secret room she found near the end where he had eyes and ears (tbh it looked a little like Fisk's secret room in DD S3) including the DEO S1 HQ it wouldn't be surprising that he also had cameras during the first trials of the Harun-El. Or just with Eve spilling the beans would be enough. This is all just dynamite waiting to implode.

I'm starting to think that he's definitely hiding at either that mountain from Lena's childhood flashbacks or just somewhere out there but on a place with a lot of view.

The kryptonite shield reminded me of the ones they used in S2 against the original Metallo. If they could make them with Nth metal, they'd be unbreakable and they could keep fighting.

They basically did a lowkey nod to the DD S2 prison hallway fight scene until it got real vs Otis. Nice save by turning into Kara to fool him.

But on the other hand I can't buy how they force Kara to believe she's been making things worse. Someone must've missed when she stopped the Elite from blowing up the White House and when she peacefully joined the alien rally march. I get it's to make her resort to journalism as an alt. but I think it could be executed differently to still get to the same destination.

Nia's dreams were confirmed to not always be set in stone here, the future is always changing. I did like how she called out Brainy on his double standard about what is acceptable to dream and not to. And he acknowledges the nature of their kiss, just kiss her again already you blue smurf stud. :P

He better download the Alien Registry somewhere else though because as long as it is in his head it can be dangerous.

Was really impressed with Mehcad's acting here with Jimmy's PTSD, in all of them tbh. But it seems the only thing the Harun-El serum does is give you super strength, maybe there's more to develop as time goes by. Guessing he and Kelly will meet with Lena next week to talk about it.

I'm pretty sure that bunker where the POTUS is staying will get raided soon by Red Daughter and not all the deputized CoL will be able to protect him.

I wonder why Eve and Lex are keeping Otis around.

The hard drive Kara got at the end should explain why Lex had eyes on the other DEO HQ and his visits to Red Daughter.

Next week looks like it'll be even better I think.
