THE FLASH: Hartley Sawyer's Elongated Man Returning For Season 5 As A Series Regular

Hot on the heels of Danielle Nicolet's promotion yesterday, The CW has announced that Hartley Sawyer, who plays Ralph Dibny a.k.a. The Elongated Man, will also be a series regular for The Flash season five.

Sawyer was introduced in the fourth episode of season four and became a quick fan-favorite, going on to play a key role in thirteen appearances throughout the course of the season. Details on his arc for next year remain under wraps, but it's likely he'll continue to fill some of the void left by Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) being temporarily sidelined, Harry (Tom Cavanagh) heading back on Earth-2, and Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) heading off on his own adventure.

As for the rest of the DC TV shows, Katie Cassidy (Black Siren) has been confirmed to return as a series regular for Arrow season seven while Matt Ryan (John Constantine) and Jes Macallan (Ava Sharpe) have both been upped to series regulars for Legends of Tomorrow season four.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Last season, Barry Allen aka The Flash used his extraordinary abilities to travel back in time and save his mother’s life, and inadvertently created an alternate timeline known as Flashpoint. The phenomenon not only gave birth to the villainous God of Speed known as Savitar, but changed the lives of Caitlin Snow and Wally West forever. With the help of his adoptive father, Detective Joe West, his fiancée Iris West, and his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs – Cisco Ramon and Harrison Wells -- Barry continues to protect the people of Central City from the meta-humans that threaten it. But first, he’ll have to escape the Speed Force – an extra-dimensional entity teeming with unknown dangers – that Barry sacrificed himself to in order to save Central City.

The Flash features:
Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash
Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen
Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost
Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon/Vibe
Tom Cavanagh as Dr. Harrison Wells
Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West
John Wesley Shipp as Henry Allen/Jay Garrick
Michelle Harrison as Nora Allen
Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West/Kid Flash
Violett Beane as Jesse Quick
Danielle Nicolet as Cecille Horton
Hartley Sawyer as Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man

Good. His character really adds to the show.
Also very excited to see where the Killer Frost arc is going this year. Since it seems like Kaitlyn always had it in her genetics, does that mean all of the alternative realities that came out of Flashpoint don't mean anything? They already exitsted? So Barry didn't really kill Dante with Flashpoint?

@tugboy - It means that when Barry (or more accurately Eobard) undid Flashpoint he only made Caitlin’s latent powers be unlocked. He just can not change her entire history from her childhood just like that. So she already had it but it was repressed.

Plus remember Death Bolt? From Arrow S3? He wasn’t around when the particle accelerator exploded and yet had his powers as Cisco confirmed and he wasn’t either a doppelganger from another Earth. There is something going on that has been there below the surface. And also some metas from the JSA from the past of course like Obsidian.

I really like Ralph but I hate how arrow and flash have their c-list justice leagues.

Good to hear, the best character from season 4.

Alright then.

Killer Frost should be back eventually.

I am surprised however at the lack of mention regarding Jessica Parker Kennedy’s character of Nora still not being a regular however after the Season 4 cliffhanger.

Sounds like a mystery to me!

I stopped watching back when the Flash couldn't outrun a girl who can shoot light beams from her hands, started having doubts when I saw him couldn't outrun robot bees, and especially how he can't keep up with a motorcycle and loses it.

This is great news. Hopefully this means this year he'll take part in the crossover event. Also hope Sue will be introduced this year and hopefully she won't be killed off like she was in the comics.

No [frick]ing thank you. He’s why I stopped watching, such a corny annoying campy character which seems to just be a microcosm of the show since season 4

@Ha1frican - Read comics (the good ones, from the Silver Age) and then get back to me.

Yay! No, seriously, Elongated Man was one of my fav JL characters as a kid and he was a breath of fun the show needed!

Ugh, Jesus, gross.

His character had some good moments, but overall, from what I remember, just not that big of a fan.

He’s what I imagine a younger, less wacky, Jim Carrey version of the character would be like.

Sigh. This is the signature moment admitting it's leaning more towards the camp and silliness of the '90's show.

I liked the lack of speedster villain. I lost track of the metas and their importance as it was a plot better done in fewer episodes.

"Flash" is starting to sink to "Arrow"'s level of molasses paced storytelling with two-dimensional characters.
