THE FLASH: Tom Cavanagh Teases Another New Harrison Wells For Season 4

Over the past three seasons of The Flash, we've met multiple versions of Harrison Wells but what's to come when the show returns this fall? Well, it appears we have an answer thanks to star Tom Cavanagh.

In season one of The Flash, we learned that Eobard Thawne had disguised himself as Harrison Wells after murdering the real version. Following his defeat, the show introduced "Harry" from Earth-2 and when the time came for him to head home, "H.R." from Earth-19 showed up but had no scientific knowledge. He later sacrificed himself to stop Savitar so what's next for Tom Cavanagh's Wells?

During a recent interview with Comic Book Resources, the actor revealed that Harry will still be on Earth-1 when the season begins and that the plan is to introduce another version down the line.

"This year, we’ve had a different villain and so I think there’s going to be areas that we could use a different Wells," Cavanagh teased when the site asked about how the show could change Wells yet again. "We’re going to start with Harry and then find a way, I think, to try and get a different version of Wells in there, be it some version of Harry or whatnot as the season’s gaps present themselves. I mean, there is stuff that’s involved with this season that we’re talking about how Wells might become a different version of Wells, but I think that’s a storyline too far from me to give up."

Interestingly, Cavanagh went on to suggest that we could see the original Earth-1 Wells somehow return despite being killed at the hands of Reverse-Flash. "When considering not just this season, but it looks like The Flash I heard contractually is going to run for the next 27 years… There’s room to like see what you can do with it, and that seems like an obvious one, but then I think it paints the writers into a corner a little bit, because — first off — he’s dead. He dead!" the actor explained.

Beats me how they will do it this time.

I do like the chance of seeing the original Wells that was supposed to be their mentor all this time before he and his wife were murdered. He was not just a brilliant man but also you could tell he was kind. I would like to see him with the team, that is the one true Wells that they'll never have to doubt much for.

He's still the best actor on the show.

I'd love it if they took up that idea of making a Council of Wells, like the Council of Reeds or the Council of Ricks

@IronMandarin - ive been thinking that for a while. If they ever get to do a Crisis On Infinate Earth's type story, they should replace the monitor with the Council Of Wells, have them monitor the Multiverse and be the ones who bring the heroes together

@dracula - I still think they should bring The Monitor into the multiverse and have him linked to Diggle in some way since Diggle is married to the Monitor's sidekick, Harbinger. Maybe Digs can be revealed as an avatar (unbeknownst to himself) of The Monitor.

@IronMandarin - I have to go watch the last 2 Rick and Morty...only saw the April fools episode. Forgot it came back already.

@dracula - Well they are building to Crisis on Infinite Earth's on the CW so there's an opportunity for that now.

@cbostont102 - I've been watching it. It's great. The last episode with the Vindicators was hilarious.

And this is one of the reasons why I stopped watching after Season 2 (didn't even watched the season finale). All these characters and their duplicates made things more confusing than enjoyable. And incredibly cheesy too.

They just don't want to let the actor go despite how completely annoying he was last season. Wells is at his best when he is cold and scientific, not a clown.

@Jeight8 - Well that version of Wells was suppose to be annoying, this year they might have a different more unique wells

I wish that the Harrison Wells Eobard Thawne could somehow return. He was te best one imo

Love Cavanagh but I'm getting tired of this too. We dont need a new Wells every season. Only other Wells I want to see is the original one before Reverse Flash killed him.

Reminds me of Agents Of Shield with Grant Ward returning constantly.

@Scarilian - They only had him return twice. The second time being in an alternate reality. When he was revealed to by a Hydra agent, it simply changed his character (and the dynamic of the show) which is a pretty creative way to have him play an entirely different role.

@Himura - and bringing him back was some of the better parts of the season.

As someone who was introduced to Tom Cavanagh through his comedic outlets (MATES Cast, Anyone?), I loved HR. The role was effortless and fitting for him, if a bit cheesy. Guess I'm in the minority.

I like the gimmick, but I agree that something needs to pit it to a halt before it gets completely ste. I'm totally down the idea of having him replace the Monitor with a Council of Wells sometime when crisis happens, but in the aftermath, we are left with Wells-Prime. Hopefully, that would merge all the multiverse and we can bring the FlArrowverse, Supergirl, Black Lightning, and whatever other nonsense under one roof.

First time was cool, now it's just redundant kinda like the premise of the show in seasons 2 and 3

I didn't really enjoy the TV version of flashpoint, and its aftermath. They created issues that they resolved almost immediately, Barry keeps getting to be with Iris no matter how much he [frick]s up and then, like clockwork, bails on her... The show created their own paradox when A) Barry doesn't use disposable dopplegangers to kill Savitar, and B) HR dying in Iris's place... and let's not even mention the fact Eobard poofed out of existence in the season 1 finale, but appears again in LoT and later episodes of The Flash.

Harry is the best Wells. Flashpoint deserved original Wells, rather than evil Cisco.

I actually like the show, I didn't think I needed to vent this much 😑
