We’ve long known that DC and TNT are working on a Titan TV series that a bit controversial due to the actors chosen to play the popular characters. We understand that the main characters of the show, are Robin, Star Fire, Beast Boy, and Raven.

Now, in a recent photo leak of Titan’s set, we get the chance to see Dick Grayson and Star Fire, and well, it’s mostly what I’ve come to expect.

You see, Brenton Thwaites look the part as Dick Grayson, while Anna Diop is a far cry from the Starfire many of us have come to love over the years. We can see Thwait walking around in regular clothing, while Diop is dressed in the classic purple outfit with red hair.

The images may not tell the full story, and as such, expect these characters to at least look the part more than what the images have shown.

I’m still concerned for Starfire

Some might take my concerns as an issue of race, but that’s not true since Starfire’s skin tone is neither white nor black. My issue is merely about the fact that Diop does not look the part, and that’s something comic book movies and TV shows have been so willing to adopt.

The big question right now is whether or not Anna Diop is capable of giving fans the quirky and awkward Starfire we’ve all enjoyed over the years. That’s more important than the color of her skin, and I’m not sure she can.

A recent set photo shows Ryan Potter and Teagan Croft as Beast Boy and Raven, respectively. Raven was dressed in costume, while Beast Boy was, well, you know, Beast Boy. We expect the filming team to apply green make-up to Potter’s body to make him look the part.

Who knows, they might apply orange to Diop’s body, but with the current interracial union push by Hollywood in movies and TV shows, we wouldn’t hold our breath for that.

Starfire is a casting tragedy.

Something about how the wig, jacket, boots and dress come together makes me think "oh look, a transvestite," not "oh look, Starfire."

If DC think they're going to be able to have a streaming service to compete with Netflix based on this show then they've got another think coming.
