TITANS: Geoff Johns On The Significance Of Robin Leaving Batman; Says The Trailer Isn't "The Whole Show"

Titans will premiere on the DC Universe streaming platform this October, and ahead of its debut, we have some comments from Geoff Johns on the controversial trailer and Robin's relationship with Batman.

The official trailer for the upcoming DC Universe series, Titans, was filled with quite a few shocking and controversial moments. Perhaps, the most talked about moments in the footage were the parts featuring Robin, specifically the "F*ck Batman" line.

Now, thanks to an interview from CBR, we have some comments from co-creator Geoff Johns on the divisiveness of the trailer and whether the moment that caused Dick Grayson to leave Batman will be explored.

“It is! It is controversial! I think that was expected though, you know?" Geoff Johns said before explaining that the trailer isn't indicative of the what the show is as a whole. "I don’t think anyone was like, ‘What? Wait! What?!’ As I’ve been telling people, I’m like, you know, not to take the trailer as, ‘This is the whole show.’ But I’m glad there’s discussion and there should be discussion about that and why we would go that direction and why Robin would ever get to that point."

Aside from addressing the amount of criticism directed at the Comic-Con trailer, Johns said the series will indeed explore "the moment that Robin left Batman” and that it will be a "big part of the series" that stays true "to Marv [Wolfman] and George [Perez]’s" Teen Titans run. So get ready to learn why Grayson had harsh words for The Dark Knight.

@TheBeard - It's just that WB has derailed their DC properties so far from the source material in favor of dark, emotionless, and brutal heroes. And people are tired of that. People want the colorful and hopeful heroes who bring Justice and Heart to the chaotic cities they protect.

WB doesn't see that and believes the only way to compete with Marvel is with HBO quality filming and Sin City colors.

People that actually know the comics are fully aware that Batman and Robin had a huge falling out when Dick started running the Titans.
Also, the Titans book was actually darker than its closest rival on the stands: Uncanny X-Men.

@Battabing - Yes you're right. In the comic books, Dick Grayson had a massive falling out with Batman that led him into going solo and becoming Nightwing.
Im not sure if it was ever fully explained what the falling out was over but I believe I remember it being about something that happened on a rooftop where Robin was Injured, possibly shot. I dont know if the falling out was because Robin hadnt listened to Batman and was injured because of that or if Batman allowed Robin to be Injured through inaction. I hope the tv show does go onto fully explain the falling out though.
