TITANS Star Brenton Thwaites Explains Why He Declined CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS Cameo Appearance

Titans star Brenton Thwaites has elaborated on his decision to decline a cameo as Nightwing in The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, suggesting he wants the HBO Max series to remain standalone.

The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths was a surprisingly star-studded crossover event, though we already know that some big names declined to appear. Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum, for example, refused to return as Lex Luthor without seeing a script first, and in terms of financial compensation, it sounds like the network wasn't willing to offer what the actor understandably felt his time was worth.

Titans star Brenton Thwaites also decided against being part of Crisis, and while the team did appear (seemingly through recycled footage from the HBO Max series), the actor had a good reason for turning The CW down. He elaborated during a recent interview with The Cosmic Circus.

"It’s a different deal thing, right? If you crossover to a different show, they treat it like a different job, and you know you gotta fly to that place, although the studio and whoever’s in charge will make it work, I feel like...you know, you get a choice, right?" the actor explains. "You get a choice to read the script, to study the project and, you know, to be a part of what you want to be a part of."

"It was just not something that I wanted to do at the time," Thwaites continued. "I mean, whether I believed that it should cross over or not, it’s not really beside the point, I just think that Titans is such a unique show, the way it looks, the way it feels, the characters, and I kind of...I don’t know, I selfishly want to preserve, you know, the uniqueness of that."

Reading between the lines, it doesn't sound like the Titans star was keen to put a CW spin on the show that, tonally, is quite a bit different to the likes of The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

Titans isn't exactly high art, though, and Thwaites may have robbed himself of the chance to show his Nightwing off to a huge new audience. The CW recently pulled the plug on Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow, something many believe is an indication that the network is paring down its DC offerings as Warner Bros. looks to put a greater focus on the shows it has streaming exclusively on HBO Max.

Titans season 4 is expected to premiere later this year.

Titans is such a wierd show. It's not like total shit or anything but it's like the ultimate manifestation DC is too dark complaint. Like sure the Snyder stuff can he pretty grim, oh but look the titans are mass murdering people.

@NathimusPrime - It's a show that tries too hard with the budget they have. It's a shame though because the actors they have seem to be commited. It has had some flashes of cool stuff.

Season 3 was probably it's best though, and their Deathstroke in S2 was decent. I'll give them that.

Nightwing's suit sucks though. Thought it would grow on me, but it didn't.

@UniqNo - Superboys first episode was pretty good. When he and Krypto try to protect the old man in his home

I can sympathize, dude had a very promising looking career ahead of him with lead roles in big blockbusters but after the failure of both was relegated to a streaming show.
A streaming show is a massive step above network television but then being asked to crossover to a CW show?

That's got to be the fasted downwards trend a young celebrity ever had. From a lead role in Pirates of the Caribbean to a guest spot on the CW in the span of two years must hurt.
That would be like Orlando Bloom starring in LotR and then going to guest star in Law & Order a year later.

@Blergh - Chris O'Donnell and Alicia Silverstone might give him some competition on that matter. Batman & Robin destroyed their careers.

@RitoRevolto - Idk what you’re talking about Alicia Silverstone was just an Uber Driver in a random movie where Rebel Wilson goes into a coma… like 10 yrs ago 😂

This is bullshit and equally a bullshit story. He doesn't have any power to decide that. If Warner says jump, he asks how high. If his contract says to make a cameo, he asks where? So to say he wants it to be standalone is bullshit. Anyone can replace Brendan.

Yeah I'm not really feeling his reasoning, or excuse if you will. I watch Titans but its little more than a regular CW Arrowverse show that's just allowed to curse and kill more. If Ezra Miller can drop in for a cameo, which I really thought was great actually, then he sure as hell could have. My opinion of course.

Didn't they just use Robin for the crossover in like one or 2 shots? I vaguely remember him when they showed Star girls team and Doom Patrol and shit.

It's whatever anyways. Not like even if he was written in to play a major role like one of the paragons, wouldn't have made the event any better or worse. It was fine without him so who cares?

I'd rather watch Titans than anything on the CW, that stuff is too nerfed and high school drama-like

As hit or miss as Titans is it’s way better than anything CW puts out with maybe the exception of the new Superman and Lois show which is produced by HBO

@ewelchd2 - I don't think it's way better. Particularly early seasons of a couple of the shows.

Wouldn't want to soil the image of such a top-tier show like Titans...

Kinda sounds like he would be open to it now though. Wish I kinda hope will happen. I want a Final Crisis show on HBO Max, with characters coming from all current DC shows
