TITANS Star Minka Kelly Teases A Realistic Take On Hawk & Dove And Confirms Her Character Can't Fly

Following some revealing new info on the pilot episode of DC's Titans, actress Minka Kelly has provides some more details on how the DC Universe series will tackle the crime-fighting heroes, Hawk and Dove.

Thanks to some recently released details on the pilot episode, we learned the DC Universe series, Titans, would have a pretty dark tone and now it looks like they will be aiming for a more realistic take on some of the characters appearing on the show.

During an interview on the show On With Mario Lopez, Dove actress Minka Kelly discussed how the series would handle Dawn Granger and her crimefighting partner Hawk (Alan Ritchson) and their different fighting styles.

“I have a background in ballet, in gymnastics, and Jiu-Jitsu, so I’m pretty talented. So I can fight, and I have a super suit, and I have wings. I have 30-pound wings that I wear that — I can’t fly because they try — it’s realistic as possible. I can’t fly, because that would be not realistic, you know? I’m a real person. I have wings, but they’re my shield, they’re my weapon, so I take people under my wing and I protect them, and I slice people with them when I fight. The fighting — we all have our own individual specific style of fighting, and mine in particular is like a dancer.”

While it sounds like Titans might be avoiding the mystical elements of Hawk and Dove, Kelly did describe the duo as the avatars of Peace and War, so it’s possible they are just tweaking their abilities to fit the style of the show. Also, it sounds like the series will still highlight their contrasting attitudes and roles, especially through their fight scenes.

The fact that two of the silliest costumes were brought to live action in a realistic way while also paying respecting to comics but we still can't get a proper wolverine costume gets under my skin.

I mean, I'm still pretty excited for the show, but if you have characters like beast boy, Raven, and possibly Trigon - I think you've passed the "realistic" thresh-hold.

I still look forward to it and remain optimistic but if I never heard someone describe a superhero project again as realistic, gritty or grounded I’d be all the happier for it.

I'm trying to be real goddamn optimistic about this one. It was easy at first, but it's definitely gotten harder over time. At this point, I really need to see a trailer.

This is (presumably) going to be a universe that has a lot of weird shit in it, including a healthy amount of legacy characters. Ritchson and Kelly are very promising casts. But it's somewhat behind the 8-ball, too. I'm just really hoping it's not a zombie project that bounced from TNT to this streaming service and somewhere along the way Berlanti and Johns got more interested in doing Doom Patrol (i.e. the show that they don't have to sell some cable network on name-recognition).

@Spock0Clock - Dont worry if its not what you hoped for, itll just get rebooted in a couple years. remember, it could be worse: they could make something truly awful, then claim that it is the one and only true canon over all your favorite stories for the last 30 years, and you are stuck with hopeless, uninspiring trash for the rest of your life. Luckily no one on this show has 4 billion dollars.

@Spock0Clock - the prequels never ruined the story or the characters, it was just set in a time that no one wanted to see, cast with actors with no chemistry, and humor built for children. underneath all that cgi that didnt hold up the story is there.

Besides if everyone's problem is jar jar, I was 13 and able to ignore him. Adults should have been able to do the same. If your problem is medichlorians, ysalimiri actually made more sense after that, giving them more of a scientific defense mechanism rather than a magical convinience. If the choreography was the problem, it was clearly explained that jedi can see what's coming. if you and I can predict each others moves 3 or 4 moves ahead, then naturally, the fight becomes a dance, the loser being the first to lose concentration. If CGI is your problem, someone had to be the guinea pig at that point in cinematic history, so the most popular film saga of all time probably would be it.

Everyone at 9 years old was annoying. Darth Vader included. Everyones just upset that they had to SEE it. Make no mistake, Darth was an annoying 9 year old even when only 3 movies existed.

I was the one person who liked your comment btw, no need to get testy and eventually lose this argument.

Franchises that can upset you, the ones that can really upset you, are the ones that are important enough to you to do it. Stories that get inside you and tear you apart, and make you feel like you're never gonna recover. Shit. I'd chop my arm off right here just to feel that one more time for Farscape. Farscape didn't just break my heart. It ripped it out, it tore it apart, it stepped on that shit, fed it to a Vorcarian blood tracker. It was ruthless. It brought the pain. But Farscape was cancelled. You see, I'll never feel that again. You sit here and you're all confused about this thing, but you have it. You have everything. So hold on to it. Use two hands and never let go. You got it?

Regardless what you think of the prequels, I'd rather watch a jar jar watto buddy cop spinoff than have someone literally destroy all the lore of the entire franchise in 2 hours, then claim that everything that has come before has never happened. A jarjar watto buddy cop movie doesn't destroy the suspension of disbelief. That special feeling when the opening crawl hits is destroyed by changing the entire timeline after an entire lifetime of enjoyment, then allowing writers to play tug of war with eachothers plot lines every two years.

Anyway, originally I was saying dont worry if this show is not perfect, it will have absolutely no effect whatsoever on the characters you love because it is not overwriting anything, which is the best part about comics and comicbook movies. I wish I could love star wars movies like that again. Only way to get my fix is to read the EU, which apparently everyone just abandoned because Mickey Mouse said so.

@TheUnworthyThor - 3 was my biggest let down of the prequels, but again, for me, the story was good, it's just a shame christiansen couldnt deliver a single line with any authority, making vader appear weak. Also natalie Portman was never very likeable. But the story was there. Darth had a girl, lost his temper, hurt the girl, fought obiwan and lost. I'm good with that. Luke thinks about murdering a family member, becomes a grump, comes back at the end and dies performing what rey performs with ease, and we throw out all the books because everyone was too lazy to read. not ok with that.

@hartley07 - I feel for anyone who loved the expanded universe, to have all those stories you spent so much time with erased from canon must have felt similar to how New 52 felt to me. But I mean it had to happen. It wasn’t so much Mickey Mouse saying so as Mother Nature saying so. They couldn’t both put Fisher, Ford and Hamill in new movies and maintain all the history of the expanded universe. It was like a heartbreaking necessity unless they wanted all future Star Wars movies to have basically no connections to the other movies which I think the general audience would have absolutely despised exponentially more than anything in Last Jedi.

@hartley07 - It’s not the acting I have a problem with (although it was terrible). Vader has this redemption arc,in the original trilogy, his son sees the good him, yadda yadda yadda we all know the original trilogy. But in Episode 3 we see Anakin march into the Jedi temple and murder babies. Defenseless children, that he knew and taught and who absolutely trusted him and he slaughtered them brutally anyone. F that guy. F him for all eternity. There is no redeeming that shit. Amputation and burns all over his body was too good for him. He deserved worse. Why didn’t Yoda and Obi-wan warn him of that stuff?

And why does Anakin do it? Because he thinks maybe possibly his wife and baby might die? And just maybe this one Sith Lord, known for the lying and treachery, says that just possibly if they work together they can stop this vision which could be (and is) misinterpreted from coming true? What kind of unforgivable monster is he? Or maybe he is blaming the children for some crazy plot the adult Jedi hatched because they want to take over the government which Anakin has to know to be a lie. I mean screw that guy. He doesn’t get to be buddy-buddy with Yoda and Obi-wan in the afterlife. He has done the most awful heinous things a person can do with much any real justification other than he is just a rotten soul to begin with and all we saw of him previous were lies.
