Over a year after hiring Michael Green (Logan) to act as the showrunner for the live-action adaptation of Y: The Last Man, FX has finally ordered a pilot for the series. Green will be joined by Aida Mashaka Croal (Jessica Jones) who will act as a co-showrunner. The writer of the hit comic series, Brian K. Vaughan, will also be acting as an executive producer on the show.

The series, like the comic, will be set in a post-apocalyptic future where all living mammals with a Y chromosome have simultaneously died off, with the exception of Yorick Brown and his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand. The pilot for the adaptation will be directed by Melina Matsoukas (Insecure).

No other details on the series have been released, but should it receive a series order it will join FX’s other comic book adaptation, Legion.

This is very exciting news for fans of the comic series and is another step forward for the project, which has been in development for years.

Yesss. Buying the Absolute editions was worth the total $500+ for three hardcovers.

BKV is my favorite scribe, and I actually started my tattoo sleeve of characters from his works this year with someone from Saga. Y is coming up!

In the space of 18 months all 4 of my favourite comics are being/havebeen adapted. Y, The Boys, Locke & Key and Runaways. All I need now s a decent adaptation of the Animorphs books and I'll be happier than a pig in shit.

@CLTMAN29 - Didn’t Locke and Key not get picked up though? Thought I remembered hearing that recently

@Ha1frican - Im optimistic it will get picked up - they are shopping it around - if not, It'll end up online at some point even just the pilot. Can't be worse than the first pilot they made a few years back - that was [frick]ing dreadful.

Wasn’t this supposed to Ben a movie from the guy who directed 10 Cloverfield Lane?

Truly excited for this. The story lends itself better to a tv format than to a movie .
