WESTWORLD Season 2: Japanese-Themed Shogunworld Receives Official Description From Delos Destinations

With Westworld season 2 debuting later this month, Delos Destinations, HBO’s viral marketing website, is welcoming the public to Shogunworld; the Japanese-themed park we'll be paying a visit to very soon.

We already know based on cast interviews and promotional materials that we'll be visiting new parks in Westworld season 2, one of which will be the Japanese-themed park "Shogunworld." We got a glimpse of the new park in the most recent trailer, but it's still mostly a mystery to us - much like everything else in the show.

Now with less than a month to go until the premiere of Westworld season 2, HBO has begun lifting the curtain on this intriguing new park. Over on the show's promotional viral marketing website for Delos Destinations, we now have an official description of Shogunworld along with a higher res image of the park (above). The description, which can be read in full below, teases a park where guests can “embrace their inner warrior, in a landscape of highest beauty and darkest horror.”

For those for whom Westworld is not enough, the true connoisseur of gore can indulge their fantasies with the slash of a katana. Modeled after Japan’s Edo period, Shogun World offers a chance for guests to embrace their inner warrior, in a landscape of highest beauty and darkest horror. Let your true self take shape in the land where self-discovery is an art form.

The Delos Destinations website is still gating off Parks 3 through 6, stating that reservations are closed to the public. With season 2's production title as "The Door," it's possible that we could be visiting these parks soon as the hosts are ready to expand and discover what lies beyond their theme park. Whether we see these additional parks in season 2 or beyond remains to be seen; however, we may already have an idea as to what they could be themed after. In Michael Crichton's original 1973 movie, some visitors were allowed to roam through Roman World and Medieval World - which show creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy teased the inclusion of during a Vanity Fair summit last year. Richard T. Heffron's 1976 sequel, meanwhile, introduced us to Future World, leaving just one park left out of the six as a potential total mystery.

We'll find out soon enough when Westworld season 2 returns to HBO on Sunday, April 22. In the meantime, let us know what you think the new parks will be.

Also, I believe that Shogun World won't be the only other park we visit this season. I do believe we visit Future World as well.

Loved the show, but it's been a while since I checked up on anything about it and I think i've forgotten a large portion of the plot for S1. Need to rewatch a couple of episodes or a solid recap.

@Mattapherr - Why would it be the cheaper, 21st century OrlandoWorld version? Delos is about authenticity right?

This does raise a question: did Ford and Arnold also create the other parks?

I still don't understand why this wasn't called "East World". I mean, come on, marketing team!
