AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Finale Reveals The #FallenAgent; Sets Up [SPOILER] For Season 4

After months of buildup, the season 3 finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D finally revealed which main character bought the farm. Plus, the final scene sets up some very interesting things for season 4...

Well, did you see that coming? For quite a while we've known that a principal character was going to be killed off in the season finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and in the end it was Inhuman recruit, Lincoln Campbell. Though emotional enough (they made sure to establish a close bond with Daisy this season), it wasn't really that much of a shock as Lincoln is a relatively new character, and many fans rightly assumed he'd be the one to die.

They did keep us guessing with a game of musical death-chain all through the episode, but it was ultimately Lincoln that sacrificed himself and took out Hive (who actually showed some humanity in his final moments) in the process.

After the tears were shed we jumped forward 6 months. Daisy has once again gone off the grid, and seems to be helping as many people as she can without the aid of her former team-mates. After her cool Quake-jump (for a minute I thought she was going to properly take off like Neo at the end of The Matrix) we also get the reveal that Coulson is no longer director of S.H.I.E.L.D., though we don't find out who is.

What we do see in the final scene is Dr. Radcliffe uploading his LMD (Life Model Decoy) Phase 1, and we get a tease of AIDA (Artificial Intelligence Data Analyser), who readers of Marvel's early Squadron Supreme comics should know well. Will she be an asset to our heroes, or is this setting up an Ultron-style villain for season 4?

Be sure to share your thoughts on the episode in the usual place.

I wonder who the new director is: Stark? (Doubt it) Hill? Fury? Someone else?

@AgeofApocalypse - great guesses by all but I feel hill would be the best way to move the team along and keep coulson able to control and deploy his 6 man team (main show characters) while building a larger overarching storyline for the next season.

Really anyone will do, but Maria Hill already fits the story and has been on the show before.

Brilliant!!!

I got a very "First Avenger" vibe from Lincoln's sacrifice and how the radio cut out.

@smgmayhem - Yeah, they were definitely recreating that scene, for good or bad.

@smgmayhem - @chewtoy - @theacuario - I also got a very Age of Ultron feel at the end from the discussion between Lincoln and Hive. "They're only human." Along with a well done Christ-figure sacrifice. "He's paying for all of us."

@smgmayhem - Yeah, that was a superb homage to The First Avenger. Also, it seems to be they took notes from the Russo regarding the way they filmed most of the action. Lots of hand-held. I loved the fight between Hive-Ward and Daisy at the Hangar. I totally felt a TWS vibe there.

Also, when the whote team is fighting the Hive deformed henchmen, you can tell the way they filmed it was similar to the airport scene from Civil War, where the camerca goes from one fight to another without making a cut...just like turning and pointing from one battle to another. Very cool. I loved it.

Oh, and by the way, let's not forget this!
