AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: Heartbreak Is On The Way In The New Promo & Photos For The Season 5 Finale: "The End"

While fans await word on a sixth season renewal, the promo for next week's episode really seems to be setting up a potential series ender rather than just a normal season finale. Come check it out!

Following the events of tonight's episode, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are left with one heartbreaking option: save Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) or save the world.

The episode saw Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) & Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) create a new, game-changing, serum using the Centipede formula and Jiaying (Dichen Lachman)'s DNA, which would save Coulson's life, but they then realized that they could also combine the Odium and the Centipede formula to stop Graviton (Adrian Pasdar), leaving everyone in quite the pickle heading into next week's finale.

News on a potential sixth season renewal remains nonexistent at the moment, but I would expect to hear something concrete by at least Tuesday afternoon, if not sooner, as that's when ABC will hold its annual Upfronts presentation.

Watch the new promo and check out eight new promotional stills for the season (series?) finale, titled "The End," below:

In light of the Sokovia Accords, and with Hydra obliterated, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been legitimatized again and no longer needs to operate in the shadows. Since the world presumes that Coulson is dead, the organization needed a new Director (Jason O’Mara) to be the face of the organization. Coulson finds himself back in the role as an agent and teamed with Mack (Henry Simmons), and together they are tasked with tracking down and confirming the presence of Enhanced people, aka Inhumans. They have been trying to track down and capture Daisy (Chloe Bennet), aka Quake, who has gone rogue in an attempt to atone for sins from the past. But with the world believing that Daisy is a dangerous outlaw who has taken down banks and bridges, the new Director has no qualms about taking her down for good. Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) is tasked with training specialist strike teams, and Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) have taken a big step forward in their relationship. But with Simmons’ new promotion as Special Advisor to the Director in Science and Technology, Fitz, as well as her former team members, finds it hard to confide in or trust her since she’s now the Director’s confidant.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. features:
Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson
Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May
Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson/Quake
Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz
Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons
Henry Simmons as Alphonso "Mack" MacKenzie
Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez
Nick Blood as Lance Hunter

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns with an all-new episode May 18

I've yet to watch Arrow, behind a little, but my ranking so far:

1. SHIELD (very good/great)
2. Gotham (pretty/very good)

Meh/lame/bad/disappointing (order really doesn't matter):
- Supergirl
- The Flash
- Legion

I think the reason why Earth was destroyed in the future is because they chose to do the logical and practical/pragmatic thing, save the world and not Coulson. The mission came first, but if the mission is to save the world then that should include him as well.

They should be able to figure something out with the Odium, Jaiying’s blood and the Centipede formula.

@VisionWitch - About not trading lives, right? Yep I think so as well. Either they prove why they are agents and save their own and the world or they all go bust, but together.

Like Captain America said in AoU: "Then we'll lose together too".

I also would like to think that Graviton is gonna off himself trying to chew more than he can swallow and it might actually stop the cataclysm.

Great stuff! How ‘bout that May-Coulson action?! Daisy was a boss, too. Poor Graviton....so delusional....

I found weird even if it was for humor that Deke can only count to 5 due to his stay in the Lighthouse. Well you do you.

@NinnesMBC - I thought they didn't go far enough with the humor. When Deke strangled a dude with his belt, I was certain they were going to pan down to reveal his pants had dropped.

Come on, man, that's a classic.

@Spock0Clock - Not all pants fall off when you remove your belt, only in cartoons. :P
