AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: Mike Peterson Not Mike Peterson?

If you've avoided spoilers for the pilot episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. then you should have no idea who Mike Peterson is. But if you're current on all the news for the Marvel television show, continue on for details. Plus, a brief tease on Coulson's cellist from The Avengers.

For a while, the internet was obsessed with figuring out the identity of the character being played by J. August Richards. Is he Luke Cage? Is he Rage from the New Warriors? Turns out he was none of those guys, he's playing a character named Mike Peterson. But the rabid Marvel fan base was determined to find a link between Richards' character on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and someone from the comic books and found it in the obscure Marvel title "Slapstick #1, which featured a character of the same name. In a new interview, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeffrey Bell sheds new light on that assumption. Did the showrunners find Richards' character in Slapstick #1? "No. We found that out later," said Bell on the discovery that a character by the same name appeared in that particular Marvel comic book. He added, "there's a whole bunch of characters with other names... some we do intentionally but that was completely an accident."

In more interesting news, Bell teased that there has been lots of talk about Agent Coulson's (Clark Gregg) cellist girlfriend that was briefly mentioned in The Avengers. "We talk about her a lot. I'll just say that," said Bell. Interesting.

Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson's team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage; Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), expert pilot and martial artist; Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), brilliant engineer; and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker, Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s first television series, is from executive producers Joss Whedon (Marvel's The Avengers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, who co-wrote the pilot (Dollhouse, Dr.Horrible's Sing-Along Blog). Jeffrey Bell (Angel, Alias) and Jeph Loeb (Smallville, Lost, Heroes) also serve as executive producers. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television."

I understand not making him Luke Cage.
The character should have a big screen debut and be played by someone with a bigger pull.

But still, they coulda made him into another CB character.

Why does everyone thinks that Wanda is the cellist? The only person at Marvel comics that can play the cello is Kate Bishop. Also, Coulson is very old to date a girl at her early twenties!

It seems crazy to me, to have a comic book television show but not use comic characters.

If its a Marvel show, we expect Marvel characters. If its original characters you want, then go watch a superhero show NOT made from a comic. Tomorrow people or something like that. And quit trying to turn people gay just to turn em gay. While i do NOT want to bash on anyone for being gay, your life choices are yours to make, i would simply not watch. Honestly, how many fans you think wolverine would have if he all of a sudden went broke back on sabertooth or cyclops?

Honestly, making Coulson gay makes sense. His creepy side-parted hair, Pedo voice and crush on Captain America just SCREAMS homo. LOL

You guys are pretty inconsiderate, slinging the term homo around as if there's no gay people that are gonna read this.

It's not like the comics don't intro new characters all the time. It's part of the fun. People always say I'd you're going to use a character and not follow the comics, they should make a new one. I'm sure we will see some comic characters eventually, but let this be this new group's intro with out messing up an established character. It's like when a new team is introduced by beating a super powered legend. Let them establish their own rouges and reoccurring characters before having big guest appearances.
