AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Producer Talks CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Tie-In

After the Thor: The Dark World tie-in, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jed Whedon discusses the likelihood of a similar episode connecting Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Captain American Winter Soldier Agents of SHIELD tv

Last night's episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was surprisingly good; and this is coming from someone that's been incredibly frustrated with the show since the pilot episode. However, the flaunted tie-in with Thor: The Dark World was extremely superficial and really had nothing to do with the episode. Ahead of the tie-in ep airing on ABC, executive producer Jed Whedon spoke with TV Guide about the possibility of a similar connection with the Russo Bros.' Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Said Whedon, "We're trying to flesh out the world. The Marvel brand carries with it a lot of familiar faces. We're trying to flesh out the world of S.H.I.E.L.D. with the established characters and the characters we're introducing to build out the larger organization that we operate in." Whedon then got a little more specific about a tie-in with The Winter Soldier adding, "Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is in that one, and S.H.I.E.L.D. makes an appearance, so we will definitely try to tee-up some stuff and probably play a little bit of the fallout from that film. We're hoping to do some cool stuff."

Whedon also teased another cameo on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but not from a Marvel superhero but from the living legend who helped create the company. "I would say there's a strong chance [of Stan Lee showing up]," was all Whedon would say on the matter.

It was previously reported that the very last episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would connect to Captain America: The Winter Soldier but the accuracy of that information is unclear. Depending on how ABC makes its schedule, the final episode could air before or after Captain America: The Winter Soldier is released here in the US. The tie-in could also come in season 2.

More lies and misdirection. Last night's episode connection to Thor 2 was misleading. What significant connection to the movie did it have? None. This show should be called Damage Control, like the comic.

Someone will probably just mention that the 2 S.H.E.I.L.D Helicarriers crashed and then that will be all the connection there is to the CA 2 movie.

Yeah, only the first 5 minutes really connected to Thor: TDW and that was just literally clean-up. But overall, that was the second episode that I enjoyed. Maybe they're finding their stride.

No Marvel character showing up but Stan Lee will. I think it's hard to sell people on that.

Have to admit that last night's episode was the best of the bunch. But there was barely any connection with Thor: TDW at all. All they did was clean up the library and say they were cleaning up the aftermath. But there was no relationship at all. A better connection would have been them discussing studying the portals or even have them catch the monster that made it through the portal.

Keep forgetting about this show. Think I missed the last 2 episodes. Gotta catch up on Hulu.

The only thing that has kept me watching was Chloe Bennett, but like the rest of this show she's slowly becoming just as boring. I'll admit the show has improved slightly but even so it's still pretty mediocre especially when comparing to the likes of something like Arrow.

I was critical of the show over the first 3-4 episodes, saying they were digging up unused scripts of the A-Team from the 1980's, but the last 3 episodes have been terrific: characters fleshed out in interesting ways, tight plot lines, the way the show is shot is way better, much more cinematic, and the mythology, especially of the non-superhuman characters has been deepening in an intriguing way. And I'm more and more impressed by the casting, which I first dismissed as CW-type casting.

I'm sold. Now that Breaking Bad is done, this is my favorite show on TV.

@supercat -- definitely check out the last 3 episodes. Something clicked, they're getting really good. (IMHO)

The show is improving now with each episode. I really don't get the hate or constant comparisons with other shows, which is dumb as this is not a super-hero driven show and never was going to be. I think as time goes by it'll continue to improve and there will be the odd cameo.

I have no problem with them referencing the movies, after all that's the whole idea, shared universe lol. At least marvel has a universe to share, who would of thought that ten years ago?

@Pasto

Every episode is just a name a dropper for Avengers! Sad that they showed the trailer clip for Thor the Dark World in the beginning of the episode and that was it. Come one there was no real connection to the movie but a brief scene of them cleaning some junk.

Though the show was a better last night than all the other episodes.

I like the show but I want to see more actual villains no more alien artifacts that cause viruses or rage. No more extremis either. I'm essentially still watching because I want to know about Coulson and what happened to him. The show has got to do better it costs a ton to do so the ratings need to stop sliding.

@ UltimateNull

I get what you are saying, but I welcome people who dislike what I like as long as they watch the movie or show and have a valid opinion. Granted if someone just wants to jump onto a thread and yell "$hit Show" with no reason behind it, well that is just silly and stupid.

As far as picking a product well that is just Human Nature. Hey without competition where would we be. Heck you have multiple game consoles to pick from for instance. To me Marvel has really done a fine job on their movie universe which is finally pushing DC/WB to start theirs. You may view some of these complaints as a bad thing but it should be viewed as a good thing. For instance all the fans bitched about Arrow not having a mask and bam he finally got a mask, maybe now they will have characters with powers on the show.

I'm interested to see what the ratings were last night considering they kept hyping the tie in to Thor which it really wasn't. The show will get a second season because ABC has said they want more shows that appeal to men which it does but it can't keep sliding in ratings. I read it does well overseas which is also helping it. Unfortunately since they haven't announced it yet it makes me nervous. Arrow is impressive because it doesn't have a huge production budget it has good action and they have for the most part avoided the usual romantic angst that other CW shows are known for. I was against Arrow until people on this site started saying it wasn't the usual CW show. I sat down watched the whole first season and thought it was really good then this season they took it to another level where it's one of my top shows now.

He must be talking about season two, which may or may not happen considering the ratings keep going down. They seriously need better writing or a superheroe, even a minor one.
