AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Executive Producer Jeffery Bell On The Show's Post-Credits Scenes

During the past 15 years, Jeffrey Bell has worked on shows like "The X-Files," "Angel," "Alias" and " Spartacus: War of the Damned." Bell's latest challenge is joining show creators Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen as an Executive Producer for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The latest episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be debuting it's third episode "The Asset" tonight at 8:00 PM. Comic Book Resources talked to the show's Executive Producer 'Jeffery Bell' where one of the main things brought up was the post-credits scenes. He says that not only did Samuel L. Jackson appear in a cameo after the credits in the last episode "0-8-4," but there will be a scene after the credits in nearly every episode of the show.

I have to ask about the Nick Fury/Samuel L. Jackson cameo in last week's episode -- by Monday, people had started to get a sense of what might happen, but it seems like you guys did a really good job of keeping that under wraps. How did that play out?

"The challenge was, in this age of tweets and spoilers, how to make anything secret happen and keep it on the DL for as long as we did. That's Marvel security, who are very efficient, plus everybody here in the cast and crew wanted to keep that secret. It was cool, and hopefully we can find other ways to do different kinds of surprises, but it's always hard in this 24-hour news cycle, never sleep, tweeting world."

Should viewers keep an eye out -- no pun intended -- for more surprises of that nature in the future?

"Part of our storytelling on this show is going to be a tag every week. We need people to know about that. The show ends, the S.H.I.E.L.D. eagle comes up, there are nine hours of commercials because it's TV, and then before we go to the next show, we're almost always going to have another minute, minute and a half of something, and those will be different from week to week.
One of the things we want people to know is, "Stick around for the tag." Having a special one like we did early is also to tell you, "Pay attention to that." I know when "Iron Man" did that after all the credits, a lot of the people left and didn't know they should have stayed. Now you watch a Marvel movie, and everybody stays until the end. We're going to be doing that, and we want people to know. Sometimes it'll be funny, sometimes it'll be a mythology thing, sometimes it'll be a self-contained thing, or an extra little reveal about something that was in the episode."

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet). From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

Hey Abary, Nice Article, but you might want to add dots in the title. Let me Explain. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Not SHIELD. Just a tip!

People say SHIELD all the time, it's just easier.

Also, The article and what he says might be better like this.

NovaCorpsFan I know it's easier, but the dots can make a better article. once, I didn't use the dots, and it was normal news. I added dots, and it made front page.

First episode was really good I think. For a pilot esp. Second episode was better for the good guy characters, but the plot and villains wern't so good. This one looks like its going to start kicking up a notch.

Oh well, heaven forbid a tv show based partly on a comic book be too kid friendly. It's on ABC at 8:00 pm Eastern/7:00 pm Central, the earliest prime time slot. It pretty much has to be fairly kid friendly. This isn't HBO, and it's not 10:00 pm Eastern/9:00 central. If they do mak it darker, they need to move it back an hour or two. But I have no problem with the way it is right now. I want kids to be able to enjoy it, and I think it's still adult enough to be a good show.

I realized something lasr week that makes me wonder how committed ABC truly is to the show. It's on at the exact same time as NCIS, which has been the #1 rated drama the past couple of years at least. Really? They couldn't find a little better time slot for it? And considering that, I believe it's doing very well.

What's this "after credits scene" thing I keep hearing about. The Nick Fury stinger happened BEFORE the credits rolled or is that just something Amazon Instant Video does?
