It's been rumoured for what feels like forever, but the fact that Ghost Rider is coming to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was finally made official at the show's Comic-Con panel in San Diego this evening. Gabriel Luna (True Detective) will roar into the lives of Agent Coulson and the team as Robbie Reyes, a character the press release describes as, "the unstoppable Ghost Rider" (he's also the least popular).

"Season 4 will unquestionably be the series’ biggest, most ambitious story yet, and it all begins with the introduction of one of our greatest legacy characters in Ghost Rider," said Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. "When the Spirit of Vengeance rides into S.H.I.E.L.D., it’ll change everything."

I'm sure it will, but it's fair to say that the vast majority of fans were hoping to see Johnny Blaze brought to Netflix in a supernatural series which could have tied into the world of The Defenders. Instead, it's going to be the version who starred in a cancelled comic book in a show on the edge of cancellation. However, the door is at least probably open to another version appearing elsewhere.

Guess that means no Ghost Rider in the MCU. Yes, it's connected but you know what I mean.

@Lemons - The fact that AOS is using this Ghost Rider over Johnny or Daniel would imply there is a very good shot the MCU is going to use at least one of the other Ghost Riders.

@Lemons - yeah kind of a shame. Hope it doesn't happen like with the Inhumans

I'm sure they can still introduce Blaze. I'm crossing my fingers they introduce him in a potential Dr Strange sequel with Mephisto as the villain.

OH! And maybe Dr Doom could be in it if Marvel has the F4 rights by then! They can all team up to defeat Mephisto -- each with their own personal motivation for doing so!

I guess ABC just wants to have a marvel spinoff show and d-listers like Peggy Carter and Mockingbird aren't catching on, so they needed a bigger character.

@FishyZombie - Peggy Carter caught me real gooooooood.

This is pretty lame to me honestly, I have no problem with Robbie Reyes being on AOS, but if this means we're not going to see Johnny Blaze on the netflix shows, then I don't like this decision at all.

@Jhuntdaprodigy - Well, for one I'm super excited about Robbie being the GR. I like him a lot in his series. Yes he's the least known but that's because he's new. And he had time to shine outside his own book in the Secret Wars last year.
And to all people complaining that we're not gonna see Blaze in a Netflix series I think they should be happy with this casting. It means there is a huge chance to see him on Netflix or in the main MCU. Remember all is connected but right now Netflix is more connected to the main MCU than AOS so this is more good news than bad.

@Bomki - i hear you friend. i really like his character in the comics.

@Bomki - actually not. Maria hill is a regular presence on Amos. Nick fury on twice. list was on several episodes and there was a direct handoff to AOU where coulson located the scepter and refurbished the helical river. AOS is heavily connected and explores the aftermath of all the movies. Those who criticize don't watch. AOS is best cbtv by far.

@Goldboink - I'm not criticizing, I love AOS. The key word in my text is "now". It's been a long time since we've last seen Hill or Fury or even heard from them. And we heard not everybody is happy at Marvel. The focus now is more toward the Defenders than AOS. Let's just wait and see.
