Latest AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Clip Introduces Jason O'Mara's New Director - Is He Jeffrey Mace/The Patriot?

EW has debuted a new clip from the upcoming "Meet The Boss" episode of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., which sees Coulson and May pay a visit to the new director, who'll be played by Irish actor Jason O'Mara (Life on Mars, Terra Nova). He seems very friendly (well, up until May gets one of those freaky hallucinations), but that might not be the big reveal here.

Though the character's last name is not given, Coulson calls him Jeffrey, and coupled with this earlier hint from O'Mara about the person he's playing having a "very manly name", there's a decent chance he's actually Jeffrey Mace, AKA The Patriot, AKA the third Captain America.

Far from irrefutable irrefutable evidence of course, but that's my guess. What do you guys think?

Meet the New Boss” – Daisy goes to battle Ghost Rider at a terrible cost, and Coulson faces the new Director, and his bold agenda surprises them all, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on the ABC Television Network.

Shave his head and that guy would be a great TV Lex Luthor. You can tell he's got the ability to project power and rage just below the surface.

Also, "Shield is going public" seems like something that should effect the movies... (unless it all falls apart before the season finale, yep, I spoiled it for myself...)

Smarmy dude bears a resemblance to Darren McGavin.

@DiscoGuzzler - The definition of "smarmy" is crawling, disgustingly, unctuous (oily) suck-up.

It's cool, though. A lot of folks use the word like it's supposed to mean "sleazy".

@bropous - Thanks for the feedback. I'm always up for a discussion of words. Of course I wasn't going for "sleazy", which implies some sort of moral failing, which I didn't see in the new director. Just ingratiating with insincere flattery, which is what smarmy means (among other things). Unctuous of course is like ingratiating, but I don't associate it with being a suck-up. The question might arise whether one can ingratiate oneself with people who are nominally subordinates, and I'd say definitely yes. It's one management style. But if some people associate it with being a suck-up, that renders the usage less effective and is useful information. Thanks.
