When we left Agents of SHIELD last season, Coulson and the team had just defeated AIDA, and went to a diner to enjoy some much-deserved downtime. All of a sudden, they were frozen from behind, kidnapped by some mysterious types, and taken to outer space. Talk about not being able to catch a break!

In the sneak peek of the premiere episode, we see the team being attacked by large insectoid beings. These beings are identified as Vrellnexians. Who are the Vrellnexians you might ask? Well let’s delve into it!

The Vrellnexians made their first appearance in Thor #212 in 1973. According to Marvel, the Vrellnexians come from the planet Vrellnex. They stand on their hindmost pair of limbs and they differ widely in appearance (some of them are winged and can fly). Vrellnexians have a total commitment to the goals of their race, virtually no concept of individuality. They are ruthless in the pursuit of their goals and they maintain some commercial trade and (captured alien) slave trade with other races. They are moderately advance, hive-like, and are ruled by queens.

It’s likely that the show will alter their comic backstory a bit as they have done with other characters. Virgil the greeter explains in the preview that they’re called Roaches for short, and they “can surf gravity storms so they’ve been able to breach a few years back.”
The Vrellnexians won’t be the only aliens the team will come in contact with. As previously reported, the Kree will make a return. Can’t get rid of those blue guys. And also, if you noticed, The man responsible for leading the team that kidnapped Coulson’s group shed his skin right before jumping in the shower.

It looks as if the Agents will have their work cut out form them when they return on their new night on Friday December 1st for a special 2 hour episode.

The 17 minute preview was just about perfect. I suspect this season will tie directly into Infintiy War. I get the feeling the team has been brought from the future to help prevent the destruction of Earth from Thanos. All that debris in space is....is probably the remains of Earth itself.

@AHRNihal - Excuse me...from the PAST. The survivors of Earth brought the team into the future from the past. Just a theory.

Surely this whole set-up and all is because of IW, right? It can't be a coincidence...
But does that mean that the big guys shared some secrets with AoS? Or are they making it up like in the past?

Shit, maybe they thought the whole planet would get destroyed so they wanted so save everyone, better save then sorry! :P

Whatever, i like it.

@Asturgis - Aw jeez, someone who find stupid a name that came from a '60 comics. And i thought Victor van Doom was such a cool name.

@LarryDee - What do the 60's have to do with anything? You really believe the names they come up with now are any better? And it's von Doom, not van Doom. He's not from Holland :)

Love how the writers are reaching into the early Bronze Age vault.
